I don’t subscribe to the “last minute change” idea, and in fact am more inclined to think this is either next years design or fake info to identify leakers - I think the same applies to the supposed iPhone14 design.

However, the underwater image of the watch in the event does look a little “off” to me - so it may be possible that the design was changed say 9 months ago? Nah. Still think that’s not enough time unless they had a plan B already waiting in the wings.

People keep speculating as to if this was ditched last minute, and I can tell you by the fact they made this ad this was not ditched 'last minute'. Maybe they had plans and changed them but the time and money it takes to film this ad (I know I work in this industry), get the working product, get approved scripts, do post production, update the keynote, build marketing materials would be min 2 months of work, probably more for all the assets they need to make outside of this ad. Apple works well in advance. Now it's possible they filmed two ads, one for a second unreleased watch, but more likely if that's the case they were long aware of this decision for a while

This reminds me of people looking for evidence that the moon landing was faked. You can always find something that supports your speculation, just have to dismiss or play down the evidence that contradicts it.
This is all kind of entertaining, and that's about it. For Youtuber reviewers entertainers it is great, makes for great clickbaity videos.
I just hope people don't make decisions based on this stuff.

There’s a lot of weirdness going on with the watch. But what stood out most was the clear lack of faces….they spend all this time bragging about the screen and only come out with two new faces. Technically three (modular is not new just more room for an extra complication).

Last year we got like six new watch faces, four or five the year before and same with the year before that.

it just seems like that got lazy af with this release.

This would be the same moon landing of which NASA lost the master tapes? But that’s for another thread 😂

You can't ditch it at the last minute and redesign the watch in just a few weeks. It takes months to come up with something like that. Most likely if they were legit all the leaks, it was the 8 version of the apple watch not the 7. But lately every event this year hasn't been correct on the leaks, so either apple is producing fake leaks, or the leakers are.

I can’t prove or disprove the rumor, but the S7 and iPhone 13 both seem like contingency plans to me. They’re perfectly good devices, but they’re not much of an upgrade.
Not many phones are today. There isn't much new to add. Samsung is the same way. Adjust the camera a bit, bigger battery, and thats about it with them. Now with the fold, just way to expensive, and still having hardware issues of the screen cracking down the crease. No thanks. I don't think the fold will last.

Just interested in what evidence people have of the S7 chip being the same as the S6 chip. Actual evidence, rather than just Apple didn't mention it being different.
Evidence is with Apple only, everything else is speculation/rumor ...

I doubt that they just changed the form of the watch overnight. As mentioned on here many times, that would be tough even for an outfit such as Apple. That being said, and before I saw all the speculation, my first reaction to the watch 7 announcement was... WTH? It appears to be just a model 6 with a larger screen, and my assumption was that they realized (many months ago, not last week) that they were not going to make it in time for the fall presentation.

There was just too little in the announcement to believe that the development of the actual watch 7 wasn't hosed somewhere. But, it probably means that the 8 will be a stunner.

I hope.

I don’t know. I initially thought that, but they have such a commanding lead in wearables that they may just stick to minor updates every year for now.

Why is a tweet showing an alleged screenshot considered “evidence”?
To the best of my knowledge the S7 is not released yet, no-one other than Apple and whoever the manufacturer is has had it in their hands…and whatever that screenshot shows could simply be something that has not been updated yet.
It could of course be that said Tweeter actually works for Apple and shares internal screenshots…

He is a highly respected developer and MacRumors and 9to5Mac have reported his findings for years. The screenshot comes from Apple’s own Xcode 13, which anyone can download and confirm. It’s the same way we know iPhone 13/Pro comes with 4GB/6GB RAM.

It's made even more irrelevent based on the fact that the watch 5 and SE share the same 5,x model numbers, and the SE doesn't even have an ECG. So if they can disable an entire sensor in the same family, then they can offer a faster SiP.....

Apple’s own sell sheet for its stores also suggests S7 offers the same performance as S6. It’s not really a guess at this point.

it's moot at this point, Apple has never published specs other than "S6" or "S5" and referencing them as "SiP" ...

Quote from your linked article "Keep in mind that Apple says at the end of the document that all of the specifications are still “subject to change without notice.”"

So maybe Apple forgot to mention any performance or feature changes for S7 chip at the event? Or maybe Apple is desperately completing the design for S7 and it’ll end up with 200% better performance? Then they can update their sales sheet.

I rarely believe a conspiracy, but I totally think this is what happened with the series 7.

Someone care to explain why all the new colors of watch bands only have 1 single photo for reference with no pics of the watch with them, when the existing colors have pics of the series 6 with them?

My guess is because they took pics of the new bands with the different form factor and now can't use them.

Whatever happened, it's clear Series 7 didn't launch the way Apple would have preferred.

Unless someone wants to believe Apple's Plan A involved paper launching Series 7 with no exact shipping date, sparse product info, and no detailed pricing, what happened on Sept. 14 was a contingency plan.

But according to some, this was planned months, maybe even years in advance! Matter of fact, they were probably so busy with the S7 that they didn’t even have to time to update the website.

No, they didn’t have time to update the website because they were busy with series 9.

...or because all the photos of the new bands are with the new S7 watch (the real S7 watch, not the flat Prosser watch), and Apple does not want to post up pictures of the new S7 watch in anything in the Apple store until it is actually available, to avoid misleading or confusing anyone.

But maybe that is too mundane a reason, and not a nice juicy conspiratorial reason. :) :)
