I think that Phil would have announced 2.3 at MWSF. The iphone is the biggest thing Apple has going for it at the moment and with all the disgruntled owners any improvements would have been in the keynote IMO but bring it on.

If there was huge features (copy paste for example), then yes. But something like colour backgrounds, I doubt it.

Wouldn't iChat be more likely a 3.0 feature?
I don't know what the consensus odds are currently on iPhone hardware, but it would be a guess they might bring in iChat alongside a version 3 iPhone (likely to have video, better cam, and a small chance of front cam, which would be useful for video chat)...

It seems Apple's holding it's breath a bit (Mac mini, iMac, no bump for iPhone or Touch, ACDs etc) - so will they keep it on 2.2 till WWDC? I'd imagine we'd at least have some sort of leaked warning from multiple sources...

Firmware 1.1.3 was a huge change from 1.1.2. Remember? WebClips, Movable icons, Lyrics and a few other features. And that was just an x.x.x release.

Calendar needs some work. Try to make a reoccuring meeting on the 1st thursday of every month?

Color backgrounds? Really? Come on, I want features, not more window-dressing/fluff.

Hmm. Is it technically possible to have a webcam that could connect to the iPhone via WiFi (or bluetooth?) that we could use for iChat? It doesn't have to be built into the phone per se, but something that we could just mount on our desk and talk towards. That way, we could have our iChat, a foward facing camera won't have to be sold to the US market, and Apple could charge us for another piece of hardware.

Are coloured backgrounds really more important than landscape mail/notes support or the ability to forward a text, both of which are trivial to implement?

Arggghhhh...

Still, better than nothing I guess.

I would imagine 3.0 is coming with the new iPhone. I also expect 3.0 to be a pay to upgrade for iPhone 2G owners.... there has to be some way that Apple pushes these people to get a new phone.

Also, I think this end of January release is really possible, alongside a 32GB iPhone and 64GB iPod Touch announcement of soon release, along with a possible mac mini, but I don't think that will all be together.
