Do you *really* want to be defending this awful human being?

lol ok. i’m just saying he has had verified leaks that were exclusively his. i’m not defending anything.

Should MR not have reported on his leaks? Should they remove him from their report card? Pretend he doesn’t exist? Should they have reported “JP perfectly predicted the Apple Watch SE for $279 without AOD and ECG, but that’s just a lucky guess because it’s proven he has zero credibility.”

Also, this site has “rumors” in the name.

"verified" leaks? see my previous comment about his verification process.

And like I said, I can throw a bunch of guesses out there and eventually I'll land one right.

At best, he came across a store listing showing a watch variant for $279. Anyone can infer the name and that it doesn't come with AOD or ECG because including those features would make the $399 not as compelling. No need to inflate the rumor bigger than it really is.

Before the September event, he's only gotten 10-ish rumors right out of 50 predictions, most of them small. 1 out of 5? Gee, let me make 5 rumors up.

- next iPhone has VRR displays
- smaller notch
- U2 (next gen U1 chip)
- always on display
- no chargers included, but includes USB-A lightning + USB-A to USB-C adapter

bet you i get at least one right. since, apparently, credibility means nothing to you, I should be on the front page of MR, right? so why not report on my rumors? because that would be incredibly stupid.

These two are forgivable. #1 was iPad Air not Watch, six months ago. #2 A12 minus the X.

Inaccurate Rumors
This is such a laughing stock, when I heard it before it was confirmed inaccurate I knew this type of thing would never happen. Should be ashamed to call himself a leaker.

because people generally have nothing better to do, then you stick them at home during a pandemic, and rather than pick up a book, they choose to spew vitriol about a person they have never met, nor makes a big difference to their lives.

these people quite literally could be doing anything, *anything* else, but they get their twisted happiness off on constantly being this pissed off about something that does not matter.

"i don't fully understand MRs hate against him"

because even when an article proves he's not all that bad, people would rather "but still!" and be "right" so they can feel good about themselves for being so hateful.
Let’s spin this.
You seem to have chosen to spew a lot of assumptions about people you have never met nor have any insight about their lives or what they do. People that don’t make a big difference in your life. You could have picked up a book instead too you know.

“I don’t understand MR hate”
MR doesn’t hate him, only a very few of us do. And it’s not “hate”, it’s just a fun none serious “I’m fed up from his predictions”. MR continues to publish, praise and mention the Prosser guy often as it still drives clicks, comments and life to the forums.
The dude is seriously wrong often, this article only hand picked a few rights and a few wrongs for the last event only. He gets it wrong often (accompanied with snarky obnoxious attitude) for everything that’s a month away (“iMac 2020 soon”, a month and a half later still no iMac, June event no iMac until like start of august) and then corrects along the way. Then gets it wrong about the type of event even the day before “watches, press release, tomorrow, sorry Apple 😘” is something in the style he would tweet and even then it wasn’t! It was an invitation for the actual event... I can’t. But I’m also being irrational because of the iMac fraud.

He got 2 out of 3 right. That isn't scattergun.

He got 2 out of 3 right.
2 out of 3 about THE LAST event. Ignoring all the tidbits here and there along the way while the date gets closer. What about “my sources are not backing down from (something here I forgot what was it)” after Gurman called a bluff off, completely avoiding “responsibility” (for a lack of a better word) on what he says... when he is right he takes all the credit, does an arrogant dance, sends hand wavings and kisses to Apple, etc... when he doesn’t it’s a complete 180.
And even then, he got it incredibly wrong... such an “arrogant, I’m so sure of what I say” attitude for what was a press release for the invites for the actual event. Not even right a day before.

Looking at factual reports, it makes absolutely no sense for a rumor site to not report on Prosser’s leaks. Seeing as there are many other leakers with worse records, the outcry to silence him specifically seems purely emotional.
Reasonable comment. Agreed.
But still, pick any two other extra leakers, stop with this one. Please.

"lovetodream" throws crap at the wall on a daily basis and some of it sticks. Not sure why they have any credibility. They've taken both sides of a prediction on some occasions and then it is played off as a troll tweet or joke tweet instead of inaccurate.

How anyone could believe a rumor that the series 6 would incorporate Touch ID, Wi-Fi 6, and longer battery life is beyond me. Rumor might as well have been that Steve Ballmer was hired to replace Tim Cook.

The 10.9" display on the Air was an odd choice simply from a supplier cost perspective. Why have a 0.1" difference between that and the Pro? Both are Liquid Retina Displays. I assume that the ProMotion thing is software and graphics chip-enabled, so separate. I get the different 10.2" and 7.9" displays on the lower level models -- they've been a staple. But Apple should have just standardized if they were going to bump size on the Air.

Hey Joe,

Can you give a Top Ten List of those that were Accurate ?

Taking Importance, Surprise Factor, & Distance from the Announcement Date into account.

Thanks in Advance !

So, I have no love for the guy, but in the list they presented, he had two hits in the Accurate section and one in the inaccurate section. How is that “consistently wrong”?

not commenting in the “consistently” part as i didn’t say that

but if you look at the past, he’s made about 50 predictions and got about 10 right (mostly got the obvious ones right like no new hardware at WWDC)

and his behavior is absolutely awful https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...eaks-after-apples-event.2255326/post-28917762

I don’t know why, but I feel the need to defend Jon Prosser.

I Can’t/won’t tell you who my wife works for, but I can tell you that I have seen confirmation in a *.pptx document of the proposed launch windows for the new iPhones.

in that same document, press release is shown for the iPads and Apple Watch, for Tuesday the 8th of September, so he wasn't wrong as such, the goal posts got moved.

Fair enough.

if i’m wrong in saying JP has legit sources and occasionally gets something correct based off of his intel, then satan please forgive me.

i guess a good test will be to see how his recent airpods studio and airtags renders pan out?

Prosser wasn't the one to break the AirPods Studio and AirTags news. There were leaks of the AirTags design before his renders anyways. Educated guesses that turn out to be true are 100% possible.

I'm not saying he has absolutely 0 sources, but there's no point of leaking if you're going to be wrong most of the time. MacRumors reporting on him only validates his actions. Sooner or later his sources will get burned in which case he could easily fabricate rumors to keep his career going for a while

If these really were leaks due to corporate espionage, then these leakers have been hung up to dry since  fiercely frowns upon such activity.
But the more likely explanation is that so called "leaks" aren't really secret leaks at all but carefully doled out tidbits of info from Apple itself to its trusted fake moles to feed the hype train... Just another subversive form of marketing.
What better way to keep interest high in a product that's at least 6 months off than create fake leaks to keep the buzz going.
Ah, one of the weaknesses of the human mind, it cannot deal well with randomness. Everything has to be part of some elaborate plan. The notion that s**t just happens is too unsettling. If all kind of leaks were always caught, the whole concept of spy agencies or investigative reporting with anonymous sources wouldn’t work.

Love to dream is a piece of trash tbh, he posts random stuff to be seen a clever then backtracks and says it was to catch liars but then says he doesn't care about leaks.

He isn't a leaker, just a chancer.

If Apple knew what they were doing, they would put out their own 'rumors', downplaying their new devices, and then spring them on the world. It would seem to be easy to also seed some rumors out there, and see who parrots them. They should be able to track where the leaks are coming from that way, possibly. Unless they want leaks. Some of them backfire on Apple as the rumors seem to promise more capable devices. Controlling the leaks would be hard, but also important at some point.
