If Apple can improve on the 10 hour battery life, then it will be successful.

Yeah, my 2011 model Air (11 inch) was the last one before Apple re-did the hardware and software to improve the battery life. I'm lucky if I can get 5 hours out of mine.

Plus the screen is really pixelated compared to even the newer non-retina screens. I had a hard time editing photos on it during Christmas because I could not tell if they were sharp on the screen!

I want to see ANY nuggets of information about a Thunderbolt 2 4k Apple display.

I'd love to see a 14" Retina Air come alongside this 12" version. I think Apple needs a larger screen on the average user end. Dropping $1800+ for the base model 15" MBP doesn't sit well with many, and the 13" rMBP is too small.

The 13" Air has the specs, but the screen . . . . . . the screen Apple.

I'm very excited. These new MacBook Airs promise to be the most insanely thin, silent and powerful laptops ever made. That gorgeous retina display will just about seal the deal for every consumer in the market for a new laptop.

We standardized on only issuing our employees the 13" version, for example, because we wanted the larger screen resolution, faster processor and option for as large an SSD as possible.

What am I missing here? I have the 11" i7/8gb/512gb MBA. Apple doesn't offer a faster CPU or larger SSD in the 13" line. I bought it off the shelf at B&H Photo and walked out the door with it, no need to special order. I previously had a 13" MBA and greatly prefer the 11", especially for travel.

makes sense to me to include more than just the Watch. they already "debuted" or "previewed" it. They'll bring up some developers to show up apps already created and give pricing specs and enough time for people to plan their campouts in front of stores. but that's a pretty anticlimactic event since we already know most everything the watch is/has to offer.

so, i'd wager we'll get other apple hardware - the new or updated Air. updated apple tv would be a nice surprise.

Only if every consumer in the market for a new laptop is primarily concerned with thin and silent rather than the operating system it runs. ;)

I don't care if apple releases a coffee mug with an apple logo and a ham sandwich on top, just give everyone what we really want! WE WANT NEW APPLE HARDWARE! # :p;)

With the iWatch we are seeing the final push to the smallest size iDevice, now we just need to see a 17 inch retina MBP to satisfy the other end of the spectrum.

I'm going for 12 and 15.
I don't really think that this is a good idea. In fact, I would say that this is a worse laptop than the current MBA. It has an inferior processor, no ports but one that nobody uses and will have to force people to buy loads of adapters, no cooling system, no proper trackpad, and probably a more fragile body. And this is just to make it thinner. Sure, it has a better screen, but the current one already had an excellent display, actually bordering on retina. Trust me, it definitely won't be an update.

The 11" has that initial "cool factor" where you realize it's so small, thin and light -- but the way Apple has sold the 11" Air to date, it's still "second class" from the perspective of offering as much power as possible. We standardized on only issuing our employees the 13" version, for example, because we wanted the larger screen resolution, faster processor and option for as large an SSD as possible. Lately, we've only gone with the custom build with 8GB of RAM too -- since our users are generally involved in graphics or video editing work.

I have a 11" MBA. If I had to do over again i'd opt for the 13". It's not even so much the screensize. Even the 13" is more comfortable to use on your lap since it has a bigger footprint which sounds counter-intuitive.

I agree about the thinness problem, but I'm hoping Apple does something similar to the new XPS 13 that Dell announced not long ago.

It's thin, small, and bezel-less. I can see Apple making it a 12" display and saving some width. I hope that the keyboard isn't terrible like it was on the 12" Powerbook of yore.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for the same ports, or at least one USB 3.0 and one thunderbolt. Otherwise, I agree, it's going to end up selling only because it's an Apple product.

I am all about the cloud, and don't use my USB ports that often, but nothing hurts more than needing an adaptor and finding out you don't have it.

I'm probably the only one who thinks that this event involves the iPad pro, refreshed Macbook line-up WITH mention of the Apple Watch but not the main focus of the show. There is nothing more to show other then price and actual release date which lasts about 5 minutes.

If they mention the new MacBook pros, do they already have broadwell quad core mobile processors?

Yeah, it seems like a good idea. I have nothing against the 12-inch screen, nor do I have anything against the idea of making it thin and light, just so long as they don't sacrifice anything. If they made the thing as thick throughout the body, like the MBP, and also make it stick out less on the bottom, rather than on the edges. This should solve the ports, trackpad and durability. As for the processor, the Core M is a negative, as it focuses on mobile devices, and has inferior ARM microarchitecture (I think). I would use a more mainstream or advanced processor, that is power efficient.

No, you're not the only one. However, I think the MacBook lineup will be refreshed later on. As for the iPad pro, I sure hope so.

This should be a great machine. I recently got a 13" i7 MBA and it is almost flawless. Just a very happy experience overall.

They are updating MP with same pace than fcpX and TB...

How about giving :apple:tv an ability to output movies in 24fps, so they would look nice?

Or just make a case that fits a raspberry bet it would be better at this point!

I think this announcement will be all about the apple watch. Apple isn't going to dilute the launch of the watch and confuse the customer over which product to buy. It will be about the watch and about what the watch can do. Expect apple to showcase a cool third party app that will leave us with wanting that watch.

My opinion is keep your money in your pocket and see what the apple watch can do in 3 - 4 years. If it takes off this product like the iPhone will get a lot better.
lol
