Serious question: is there such a thing as device to device transfer in the world of Apple? I've used Mac laptops, iPhones, and iPads for 13+ years, and the only reliable way I've ever found to transfer from one device to another is to upload it to the internet on one device and then download it on the other. Or for laptop to laptop, use thumb drive sneakernet. They've never had working network transfer capabilities like the Windows world I came from (where you just share a folder/drive on the network easy-peasy). And AirDrop has so many weird permissions and instantiation issues I doubt anyone has ever figured out how to make it work.
Really? Even my parents who are in their 70s figured out AirDrop years ago. They share pictures and videos with their grandkids and even show their friends how to use it.

I use it all the time sharing files, links, whatever between my Apple devices.

5G IPad? Why?
I once saw an architect use an iPad Pro on a work site to peruse plans and part lists, he could work on these with people back in his office via the cloud. He'd probably appreciate the benefits of 5G, being 1: Speed or 2: Less congestion.

I'm sure there are lots of use cases for pro devices we can't even imagine, it's a Pro device after all. In any case putting a premium mobile device on the market without 5G now would just be silly.

I have to admit the thought of having 5G service was one of the main reasons why I chose to upgrade this year from my perfectly good iPhone 11 Pro to an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I then quickly discovered that true 5G service is like an elusive unicorn that is rarely seen. At least in my area of central FL which sucks big time. These carriers constantly cheerleading their 5G service should be held accountable for misleading the general public because it clearly is nowhere near what they're advertising it to be.

Heck, I went it to one Verizon COR store in Orlando and two reps clearly admitted to me they barely, and they really did mean barely have 5G service actually running. Of course you'd never guess that with the multiple 5G posters they have plastered all around the inside of their store.

iPads are kept longer than phones. You need to think more long term than today when you think about 5G. I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and I too am not seeing the big speeds but its just getting started. In a few years the network will catch up to the hardware and the more Apple releases the more the providers will work to provide the service.

it may be just where i live, or a bad unit, but my supposed 5G on verizon seems much slower than 4g. i see much slower loading of pages with 5g. Never even thought about download times until i started seeing load issues on a supposedly faster technology.

They are basically limited to AirDrop and Transferring from Old iPhone to new iPhone at the moment.

🤞🏼iPad mini with IPP form factor + full cellular functions!🤞🏼
Well the mini should be getting the 2020 Air design treatment. Kuo says mini-LED. 5G is a given.

re: an iPad Pro mini... I wish, that would be awesome. Hopefully enough people want it that Apple will expand the Pro line and make it!

I hate the 5G thing and how is used intentionally to justify the price increase. These won't be cheap at any means..
The funny thing is 5G is way worse than WiFi - uses more power, doesn't work properly, is faster but in unimportant ways, and that's before we consider it's actually a directed energy weapon we kinda sorta hope nobody will be using to kill off people.... (and before you go tinfoil hat, just read the description of the tech - it's obviously possible to track ppl around the city with directed energy beams, in fact, that's what it's _advertised_ to do... that's its function... )

But the tech is a disaster, and so rightfully nobody cares about it, and it will go the way of the 3D TV. Remember those? Me neither :)

5G is “actually a directed energy weapon we kinda sorta hope nobody will be using to kill off people”? Well, unfortunately it seems you’ve been reading some BS Facebook conspiracy websites. Stop doing that lol. You’re listening to idiots, and you’re spreading idiotic rumors.

5G is the next generation cellular phone system. Nothing more. Whether you continue with the triple tinfoil hat/shirt/pants combo or throw it all in the garbage.

This is the 21st century. It’s time to stop being frightened of science and other things you may not have learned about yet. Knowledge comes from learning facts, not listening to weirdos on Facebook telling you the world is going to end next year.

Don’t live your life as a scared, frightened rumor monger, manipulated like a puppet on a string. Science is real, but you don’t need to be be scared of it.

Now viruses are real and those will kill you—even though, like radio waves, you can’t see them. That’s something to be concerned about, and something you should fight. But not everything you can’t see or don’t understand will kill you.

The rumored 2021 high-end iPads probably would be. iPhone 12 mini and 12 were increased, remember the $30 they never mentioned for the carriers..
Not sure what your first sentence means, but the 5G mmWave devices are the iPhone Pro series, and they’re $999/1,099. No price increase.

Based on everything Apple’s done, we should expect zero cost increase for 5G mmWave (vs. 4G LTE) when the new iPad Pro, Air and mini are released next year.
