Until I see a tablet that can replace a laptop, I wouldn't call it a pro. Pro means you can use professional software on it. I don't see tablets capable of running Final Cut/Motion/Adobe Premiere/After Effects any time soon. We are a few years away from that still.

people keep assuming it's called iPad Pro. What if it's called iPad Air Plus?

If Apple does introduce a stylus with the 'iPad Pro', I'm curious as to how they will tackle the issue of storage for the stylus. Microsoft does not have a good solution yet (stylus is much fatter than the think of the Surface so storage is an issue). My guess is the Ipad pro will also be thin but the stylus will be fat so their solution to stylus storage will be interesting to see.

I'd say that those applications exist because of the "restrictions" in IOS. What you're seeing as a flaw is actually one of its greatest strengths. A curated (walled garden, if you like) system gives security to users and profitability to developers. Users can trust their devices, so users who are looking for quality flock to the system. Developers then have a lucrative market to sell into. Contrast this with other systems where revenue per user is low and what do you see? Lots of ripoffs, both of consumers (malware) and developers (apps pirated for profit).

Repeating it won't make an argument stronger .

iOS is too restricted to benefit from 3rd party apps, they are plentiful but crippled . It only invites developers who start by finding a way to make a buck despite Apple's vig .

And since iOS will never be a computer OS, or even be compatible to OSX, there are only so many 99¢ apps that can be sold before users get bored or wise up .

To answer the video's question: No, I do not want a new iPad Pro.

I am waiting for the right moment to spring for the iMac 5K Retina Display.

It's all about powerful, all-in-one, desktop computing in my mobile world. :p

regardless of the naming/moniker - is there any evidence to suggest this? i don't know much about this stuff, but I thought ARM was in no way set up to be interchangeable with OS X in any capacity, that it was its own beast meant for iOS. i think both platforms have been generally predicted to evolve along side each other rather than merge. correct me if i'm wrong

Yeah, there is an Apple patent for an iMac that, when you grab the sides, it detects your heartbeat and disengages the stand so that you can lower it down to a shallow angle. When it does this, it also transitions the UI elements of the OS from mouse-based with smaller targets to touch-based with larger tap targets. This patent is from several years ago, so it's at least something they've considered doing. The fact that iOS and Mac OS have been growing more and more similar in appearance and with features like continuity makes me think that they will eventually do this. Perhaps they could have a new version of Xcode that can compile to both platforms at once? Not sure how it would work exactly but iOS and Mac OS already have tons in common.

The logic board of the new Macbook retina will easily fit in the 12" iPad.

I think the alternative scenarios provided by tiny pens and silos in samsung products are worse. I generally carry my surface in a bag with the pen. I just seems like such a non issue.

surface pro 3 can do this, and --in fact--the surface pro line has been capable of this for 2 1/2 years.

…or that rumored Apple Watch…wait!, that did happen!?? :D

You might be surprised what we see in the next year.

I didn't way Apple Watch as there was good evidence for that happening. People have been talking to an Apple television and iPad Pro as the next big thing for years now. No part leaks, no real evidence for this, just a few analysts wet dreams of what they want from Apple is all we are hearing on this.

When there is actual evidence on of this (ie part supplier rumours, part leaks and other such talk), then I'll consider this more seriously. And secondly I to think this would be best if Apple didn't make it.

You have fun waiting for the day that hundreds of millions of users "wise up" and follow your lead! Won't it be great when all mobile OSes are wide open to hacking? We'll all get to run AV software on our phones!! And those of us with technical knowledge will be able to hijack our friends and families devices!! Techies rule!!!

Why wouldn't Apple be adapting OS X to work in a touchscreen tablet? Surely its the next thing to breath life back into the iPad. If they are wanting to go ultra slim, and are removing all ports from their ultra portables, why not take away the keyboard too. The Surface is proof that its easy to add one if nessesary.

If the 'iPad Pro' ever comes to market it will undoubtedly need to compete with the surface on some level because I can't see a huge portion of folks dumping their regular iPads to replace it with a giant one with 12 rows of apps instead of 5.

MacBook Touch? Anybody? No?

EDIT* Or Just Mac Touch.

The logic board from the new MacBook would probably fit into a regular iPad or iPad mini.

the tablet may support the NFC, will offer a Bluetooth stylus while the screen will use the Touch Force technology already on the Apple Watch or the latest MacBooks.

You mean unleash an OS highly unsuited for touch input onto a device that uses touch as its only input method for one important use case (detached screen)?

You would need to add the equivalent of Windows' Metro interface as an alternative UI for a limited subset of features. Windows 8 has gotten better at this but it still sucks if you want to a certain task and have to navigate the desktop interface on a touch screen.

With recent changes to OS X Snow Leapoard to Mavericks it appears to me apple are working on just that kind of OS for all kind of thing in the background.

For those wondering what an OS X experience would be like on an iPad all you have to do is give Parallels Access a test. It works great for me. Even if the iPad Pro doesn't have a more advanced version of IOS, I would think Parallels Access would run great on it. It would give you large screen access to your Mac. It would be the next best thing to running OS X on an iPad IMO.

I think in the end, what we'll have with the iPad Pro is this:

1. 12.2 to 12.9 inch IPS or even IGZO touchscreen--possibly with Force Touch functionality.
2. A9X system on a chip (SoC) with 4 GB of RAM.
3. 32, 64 and 128 GB of local mass storage.
4. Apple Lightning connector, unless Apple makes the case just thick enough to accommodate a USB Type C connector.
5. 802.11b/g/n/ac support at 2.4 and 5 GHz.
6. No digital cellular support to keep weight down.
7. Improved Touch ID sensor.
8. Improved built-in speaker.
9. 2 megapixel front and 8 megapixel rear image sensors.
10. Optional wireless stylus that interfaces with iPad Pro over Bluetooth 4.0.
