Useless.
Which is why it's in almost every electronic device now to easily pair. Which is why Visa/MC is implementing it within all pos systems. Right. Useless.
Useless.
not another wiring schematic ... this had people up in arms over "1 GB of RAM" :roll eyes:
I really see no need for NFC, with everyone that has android and the ability to use it, i have never seen 1 person use it in real life ... ever.
Doubt it. Most retailers don't even have modes for accepting NFC payments. It'd be cool if they included NFC, but most people won't care (prediction).
What you also have to remember is that just because NFC hasn't taken off in the USA doesn't mean it hasn't elsewhere in the world. Here in the UK it's becoming more popular for smaller transactions and especially for things like food on the go.One thing to remember is retailers often adopt technologies BECAUSE of apple and not in spite of apple. If nfc is in the iPhone, retailers will start adopting it en masse. Guaranteed.

Nothing wrong you speaking about the US where you are based, but I'm just trying to emphasise the Apple is a global company who only happens to be based in the US, the iPhone and their products are global products. So taking that into account Apple have to create an iPhone that appeals too, works, and sells all across the world. Having NFC because it's popular in other countries adds to it's global appeal and function, thus increasing global sales. You're right, I was speaking about the US. I assumed, possibly incorrectly, that the two ppl I quoted were too.
I wonder if this will be the "One more thing" feature.

Yesssss.
I would love to be able to buy a drink of powerade or something from a restaurant while running. Swing in, pay $1, get refreshment, continue running.
Yes of course, I agree. I often forgot to think outside the US; arrogant American mentality and all![]()
And the reason you can't do that now? Does the store not accept money?
NFC is required to be in PoS machines by October 2015 as decreed by EMV (EuroPay, MasterCard, Visa), or the retailer is liable for fraud. So, it's most definitely coming.

Meh.
Apple won't include something that isn't catching on.
Besides, once iBeacons is more fully utilized, NFC will fade away, as most smart phones made over last couple years or so have Bluetooth LE, all the hardware needed for iBeacons, while NFC is only in few devices.
I'm sticking with what I said a year ago..".in two years iBeacons will blow away NFC"...in another year we shall see.
The point he was trying to make is that all he'd have to have is his phone. Nothing else. Who the heck carries their Wallet when running?
Wake me up when September comes...
I carry a credit card and ID in the zipper pocket in my shorts in the event that I get injured. What happens if you are 5+ miles from home and you turn your ankle? Thats a long way back injured, card comes in handy for a car service (be it taxi or Uber or whatever). And ID in the event that you get hit by a car or similar and are incapacitated, I want EMTs to be able to identify who I am.
Before I took running seriously I ran with music, and had my phone in a armband, which conveniently also has room to slide in a few cards.

NFC Is the payment standard for the foreseeable future.
