Once AAPL reached 190 it was inevitable that limit sell orders would be activated. And if it dips below 180 like yesterday limit buy orders will be activated.
AAPL is a very active stock because of institutional investors and is not a stock for the weak of heart. There is a lot of money to be made though, if you keep well informed throughout the year's ups and downs.

And here's Jim Cramer admitting that fake rumors are illegally used to manipulate tech stock values--such as AAPL--for short-term profit.

http://www.roughlydrafted.com/2007/...-the-jim-cramer-street-misinformation-engine/

"That’s a violation. You can’t create yourself an impression that a stock is down. But you do it anyway because the SEC doesn’t understand it. ..... This is actually blatantly illegal.... And this is very easy, because the people who write about Apple want that story. And you can claim that it is credible because you spoke to someone at Apple, because Apple isn’t in [a position to comment on unannounced products]. It is an ideal short."

Can I just point out that it is impossible for there to be a delay of product that hasn't even been announced.

edit:
how can it be delayed when they never announced a release date? :D
Damn, I missed this one. I guess I'd just add again that release date isn't even an issue, the product hasn't been announced.

Eh, I think this still makes some sense. People, and Wall Street in their market speculation probably figured an approxiate release date, somewhat like we do on this site. Even though nothing has been announced yet, judging by historical product release patterns, they have most likely made a reasonable guess and it would naturally affect their speculation the next day/hour/etc.

But yeah, to us it won't be a delay in terms of release date. But in terms of expectations, I think we could say it would be a delay if it comes say....September?

I was told the other day, by a very reliable source, that there was a rumour of a rumour that Mac OS XI was going to be delayed.

Noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Seriously though, ProwlingTiger, you can't call it a delay and treating it like one is silly. I understand about expectations and predictions but by definition a delay is when something arrives late. Without an announced arrival time you just can't have a delay. It is the essential element. It would be more accurate to say simply, "The rumored 3G iPhone may be coming out later than suspected." And when you look at that sentence you have to notice how crazy and insignificant it is.

Rumour of a rumour, lol.

BTW, my friend just called me and said that his mom's cousins said that they have credible sources stating that iPhone will be delayed until next year.

Im obviously joking, but its funny how the stock price can fluctuate based on stupid news like this.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks megfilmworks! BTW, seems by the stock bounce back, the rumor was about a false rumor.

No, no, you just missed the rumor about a rumor that the 3G iPhone will actually be released on time despite the unannounced release date, and that it will incorporate a portable malaria diagnosis and treatment kit (cancer and AIDS were listed on the original feature list, but they got pulled to make the WWDC announcement timeline, lest the stock tank). Sadly, MMS and copy and paste didn't make the cut either, so the stock probably won't top $200 this week.:p

I guess you haven't heard of MS's Guardian Angel patent? Your joke isn't too far from Bill Gates' Dream.

I talked to a worker at my local AT&T store today (York, PA). And he said that the new iPhone will be released in June.. You supposedly won't be able to trade in your old one then just pay a little more for the 3G version, but there will be some discount for current owners. This doesn't make sense to me since you can trade in any other phone for newer versions... Also expect the phone possibly between June 19-29th.

Not all phones/companies do trade-in's but some do

I think giving current owners a small discount will be the right move to suck (not in a bad way) current users to switch while keeping those happy that are buying them for the first time

I think those expecting a $50 trade-in were dreaming anyway (ala those 50 euros/Orange story)

I agree. Are we sure that the new iPhone will be available next week? Or will we get a demo and a release date at that point? I hope not but I would not be surprised if that was the case.

I am very happy with my current iPhone it does everything I need right now.

temp glitch

The bearishness of AAPL appears to be a temporary glitch as AAPL recovers. I like to check the sentiment trend on http://www.predictwallstreet.com/forecast.aspx?symbol=aapl (you have to make a prediction first to see the graph) and to compare it with the quote. Today, the sentiment is again in the UP or bullish zone and the price took a dip this morning but is rising again. In the past, prices were rising fast when there were multiple days of bullish sentiments. I am curious what the sentiment and price will be tomorrow.

Ummm...Are you in the wrong thread or something? That has nothing to do with anything. Besides, AAPL went up 2 bucks today, who cares what guesses from some website say? That is not how the market works.

this was really interesting, A friend told me that the phone would be $199 and implied it would be sold through other carriers. I think the more accurate thing to say would be it will be subsidized at $199 through AT&T (at least, according to popular conjecture) and will be sold at a premium ($399?) through Apple directly where it can be unlocked and used on other carriers. I'm getting ahead of the story in talking about carriers besides AT&T selling the phone.
