So you want MacRumors to only publish Credible Rumors?

I'm sure Arn will make note of this for future reference.

I do like this.

I have no idea when it will launch, but it's not true that it's delayed.

Errrrr

A "delay" here is defined as the overwhelming public expectation of when a product will be released based on a consistent past practice. I think this is reasonable.

In that sense, whether Apple had always planned on a "June" release instead of April for the iPad is irrelevant to the general public. It would still reasonably be viewed as a delay.

All Apple has to do is stop being so secretive and the problem vanishes overnight.

Are they worried that people would have some time to think about the product and it's specs before parting with their cash, and want to announce it today, and many people just "Buy It Now" without really considering what they are getting?

They have to be secretative about release dates for new versions of existing products until the last minute, otherwise it would kill sales of the current product.

LOL.

Is it just a coincidence that European options expired last Friday, and we suddenly started hearing about all these problems in Apple?

So what's the name of this site again ?? Oh yeah... MacRumors... !!
Must be christmas for you these days ^^

There is a significant difference in Dalrymple's "they aren't delayed, because there are no deadlines to meet" and Reuters' "reports coming in that iPad 2 isn't delayed until June".

It could well be out in June and not be delayed, because that's when Apple will decide it's ready to be put out. It's not like the white iPhone that Apple announced and then was in fact delayed.

I do concede that the public could consider it delayed because they'd assumed it would be out in April because, well, that's when the last one was out. But I'm just saying, Dalrymple is technically and pedantically correct that it could be out in June and not be 'delayed'.

Pre-announcing a replacement to a shipping product would kill sales of the existing product. Most people don't spend hours online looking for product rumors like we do and will buy right up until the new product is available because they don't know a new one is coming.

Also, pre-announcing gives out your playbook to competitors. While this may not help them release different products, it would help their marketing efforts against you between the time you announce and release.

So only post rumors that are true... gotcha. They can do that and call the site MacLeaks instead.

It would however, make it a lot less fun to visit.

Most other companies seem able to manage this.
We generally get to see upcoming things at trade shows from others.
Why can't Apple be normal and show new "soon to be released" products at trade shows also?

Because they are special?

As I say, other companies seem to survive and not keep things a secret.

It's a sign of bad rumor reporting when one has to always read them from the bottom-up just to get the real story.

Why not just tag 'em with, "Ignore previous rumor"?

Obviously it's worked well for Apple over the years and it is their style. Plus, right now... and for the past years, they've had no reason to pre-announce. What good would it do except tip their hand to their competitors?

Apple is in the lead in many area's. They are the company that everyone watches in high-tech. They have nothing to gain by pre-announcing, where others need to just to show they're in the game.

I think its time that Apple tells us the new port on the iPads is for retro products like the floppy drive.:D
Don't think that market has been tapped into yet.

Yeah the rumors are getting lame, and people are getting worked up. Unfortunately this shows how some of us are way dependent on technology wanting the next best thing.

I'm interested in an iPad to take some of the workload off my 2007 MBP like email and web surfing etc. Can't afford a new MBP right now. I use it for graphic design, photo & video projects. So if I can extend the life of it, and use an iPad to fill gaps it will help for now.

Oh well everyone should do that then.

I jest, of course.

Other differences between Apple and other tech companies that show off all their upcoming products all the time:

- not all of those other products make it to the shelves at all
- a frenzy of media speculation doesn't surround those other products
- there aren't queues of frenzied potential customers outside every single one of the other companies shops around the world when those products are released

It's pretty obvious why Apple play it like they do. Frustrating, but obvious.
