Honestly, I bet we do see the next iPhone in the June/July time frame. Here is my reasoning:

1) All the rumors about the iPad being delayed were dead wrong and Apple did nothing to refute them up until the announcement. The fact that we are talking about a delay and not a leaked version of the next iPhone has the people at Apple extremely happy.

2) Can you imagine how upset ATT would be if it doesn't come out for another few months. Everyone who is still in ATT would probably upgrade in June/July if they were offered the upgrade price, even after upgrading to the iPhone 4. I know I got the iPhone 4 the day it came out and if I was offered the next iPhone at upgrade price I would do it in a heart beat. However, if I have to wait till September/October, I now have more reason to hold out and wait for my contract to expire to jump to Verizon for the next iPhone. I would think there would be many more people who are in the same boat as me.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

First of all, no one ever promised us a new iPhone in June/July - so it's not delayed if it isn't released until September. Secondly, there's a good chance that the iOS upgrade is significant enough to require more time to polish it, which in turn would require some time in-between the iOS preview and the next iPhone release for developers to be prepared.

Also, there's no way they would release iOS 5 before the next iPhone - it would decrease launch day revenue from people that have an iPhone 4 with iOS 5 and become comfortable.

Just my two cents though.

I'm of the belief that it will be a minor upgrade. No screen size change. Just the A5 processor with upgraded camera. 4S. Keep it simple, why go all crazy changing it up?

There's millions of 3GS owners who are due for an upgrade and asking them to wait 3-5 more months for an upgrade is begging for Android to swoop in with all it's shiny new phones and pull away from Apple's bottom line.

and I'm one of those! I love tech and waiting 2 years is bad enough, another few months until Autumn or whenever is hard. That Galaxy S2 will be looking VERY appealing if on 6th June a delay is announced.

Probably has a little more upgrades on top of a dual core A5 processor...
We'll just have to wait for half a month and find out watch WWDC has in store for us...
Otherwise, yeap, I think I'll have to resort to Android or maybe even WP7 since my contract ends in June =_=
Also, iOS 5 better be pretty damned good, otherwise I think many people will start switching...
AMAZE US, SCOTT FORSTALL!

So you heard it here. Using good o'l logic to sort through rumors. Bigger screen. Case redesign. A4 Processor/more RAM. Camera upgrades. No delay (released in June). And iOS 5 will blow us away too. Come back and call me Nostradamus when it comes true. ;)

you heard it here as well, no new iPhone available next month...earliest availability is September...maybe a faster processor and more RAM and a camera update but that's about it :apple:

same old rebranded phone and people will still queue for it..just like the iPad2 :D

Apple will never have any proper incentive to step their game up if people just keep promising to look at Android (or WP7) phones "some time in the future".

Why not vote with your wallet? Threats aren't going to work...

Just like Fox Moulder, I want to believe, but I don't think it's happening mate. Too many analysts are all saying otherwise.

Analysts are saying it will be delayed however, the iPad 2 was greeted much the same way. Rumors constantly pinned the device as being delayed until September if I am not mistaken. Either way it was supposed to be delayed. Apple benefits from us right now believing that the iPhone 4s/5 will be delayed. Honestly it makes sense if you think about it. If we believe the new phone will be delayed, more people holding on to the 3G/S are more likely to jump to the iPhone 4 now and possibly even upgrade to the 4s/5 if it is better than the 4. Even if they dont upgrade, iPhone 4 sales will continue to rise. Which is good PR for Apple. To me it doesnt matter when the phone will be released but Apple would be very stupid to release it in September. The reason for that is simple. A lot of Android phone companies plan a lot of their new smartphone releases within the months of June and July. Even I would seriously CONSIDER an Android phone. Now I wouldnt actually buy one but they are starting to look pretty dang nice as of late. Now I know we have never been PROMISED a June/July release date, but we have come to expect that time frame from Apple, and we all know how strict Apple can be when it comes to release dates and refreshes so I still put my money on a WWDC iPhon 4s/5 reveal. Time shall tell if am wrong though. Anyways just my rant.

Why do so many people want a bigger screen?

Guy at work has a Galaxy SII and its just too big. I like a phone to be a phone.

It would be a smart move if they delayed it because then it would leave then unpredictable. If they do release again at the same time. No matter what rumors we hear next year we know damn well it will be coming out the same time.

If you would like a phone to be a phone then you wouldn't have an iPhone, just saying.

An iPhone is a Phone. It fits nicely in my pocket like it should and is 100% usable as it is.

Can people seriously not use it the size it is?

Soon you'll want it a bit bigger and the iPad a bit smaller etc and they will end up being the same device that we will end up carrying around in a little handbag.

I'm just saying.

I still think it's going to be called the iPhone 4s and it's going to be just like the 3Gs was to the 3G. 4G and another major upgrade will be in the iphone 6 or whatever they call it.

Be it called 4S or 5, it will be later this year and will bring GSM and CDMA to a common platform. LTE will be next year. As usual, my source needs to stay in the background but you'll find my track record is spot on.

I'm predicting they'll go with the 3.7" screen without increasing the size of the phone, so you may not need to worry about the form factor getting larger. The largest Apple would go is 4.0", which is less likely, but it also wouldn't drastically increase the size of the phone like going to 4.3" would.

Obviously we can still use the phone if it's only 3.5" but if you watch Netflix, play games (ala Angry Birds, etc.), and really use the multimedia capabilities of the phone, more screen size is a very nice addition. And unless you man with really tiny pockets you should be able to fit a 4" and under without much trouble.

I'm happy that you're very satisfied with the iPhone 4 but in general technology isn't about being satisfied with what's out today. It's about pushing the boundaries and constantly refining a device's mix of form, function, mobility and power. I think Apple will make the right choice this summer.

Yea but a phone is suppose to call and just text message with a 2 inch screen if that. 4" screens will also fit in your pocket.

My friend finds it awkward to sit down with the Galaxy SII in his pocket. He says its a little too big.

Its all personal preference anyway. i just can't see it happening.

And this phone isn't going to get delayed. Apple sells $65 BILLION dollars in products every year. What Apple wants, Apple gets. You think they're going to have problems getting parts ready? They literally purchased the entire flash memory market a few years ago and they're doing the same with the tablet screen market. There's millions of 3GS owners who are due for an upgrade and asking them to wait 3-5 more months for an upgrade is begging for Android to swoop in with all it's shiny new phones and pull away from Apple's bottom line.

This would be a good point if it was any other company. But a pompous company like apple would just think that people will buy their wonderful 12 month old iPhone 4........... and the sad part is that they'd be right
