i need help with this also, anyone? i'm using windows...

Can someone tell me how to default my GPS program to automatically run? The program is called "GPS Tracker", and it's from iTunes.

I read on the "How To" portion of Backgrounder that you have to make a preference file. Can someone do that for me, or tell me how I do it?

Can someone create the file for me??

Just hold the "Home" button while the application is open. A message will pop up saying it's activated. Keep in mind though, this is pretty much unusable because of the amount of battery life it drains up.

If you can't find it on Cydia try rebootijng your device and it should appear, jsut search for it.

I've only used it for BeeJiveIM and don't plan to really use it for anything else, but it's a great little application. If you have an iPhone and want to use this with BeeJive, your phone vibrates when you get a new IM, even if you're looking at pictures, or on the web (finally I can chat to someone and browse safari!). If you've got a touch, you'll hear a loud ding, from your headphones, speaker, or both.

Like already mentioned the BeeJive icon will have a little 0 if you've got no messages (wether the app is open, open but 'hiding', or forced closed), which isn't a big deal. That's the only negative.

Why would running pandora in the background using this app eat up any more battery life than playing audio with the ipod app? I guess it is streaming 3g data, so that's an aded drain, but is it really that bad? I just installed this app tonight, and am loving it, but haven't used it enough to see how it's going to treat my battery yet.

How do I stay online on AIM and be able to get messages?

it says that I'm still online, but I can't receive message notifications

May be it doesnt support push. Beejive does, it alerts me and updates the badge, even when the screen is locked.

I dont really mind if it drains the battery too much. I mainly use it in work and have a usb charger for my PC. I'm really impressed with it, its exactly what I've been waiting for.

It's actually increased the worth of my iphone ten fold.

EDIT:I'll run Beejive in the background all day and report on battery life later this evening

What a monstrosity. You've turned your iPhone from a thing of beauty into... that. Congratulations.

Many people do make their phones into messes, yes. Except when you do something like this:

obviously constantly streaming 3g data is a huge drain on battery.

I have noticed one thing whilst running the Beejive app, when the screen locks, I think the data connection is lost. When I go back in to the app, the loading icon comes up then connects again. I dont actually think it stays connected whilst the screen is locked so no new messages would come through.

Give it some time to get updated. I'm sure this will be a program to watch. Pfft to Apple and their slowness on letting iPhone background apps run.

Life is good! Why?

I'm surfing with Netshare and listening to my iPhone with AOL Radio at the same time. Background option does this for me. Thanks to Pwnage team and Cydia. You guys are awesome!!! :D

omg i totally forgot to try it on AOL Radio, i hope it works that would be perfect. I already love it on the IM app :D

JB *love*

when you jailbreak, do you have to re-install all the apps you already have? This really is quite tempting.

I had no problem jailbreaking with my iPod Touch 1G (in fact I'm still on firmware 1.1.2 with it just because I don't really use it as anything but an iPod at this point). I'm just skeptical because it's my phone. I suppose a restore would get me back where I started though if I didn't like it.

Another great use for this is to run Ambiance or another sound soother in the background while doing something else. There have been times that I needed to tune out background noise, but didn't want to be stuck on the Ambiance screen!

Sorry...I don't know how to do that yet, either.

Wouldn't this be a horrible drain on your battery? I can see wanting to do this when you are plugged in to a car charger or something, but I would think it would just kill the battery if you weren't.

Only problem I've seen so far using this with Beejive is that it doesnt keep a connection for long. It drops the data connection after a good few minutes of activity meaning that you dont get notified of any new messages.

I've also noticed that after prolonged inactivity, the application closes and I have to re-start the application then re-enable backgrounder.

Anyone else getting this?

I haven't noticed this yet. What do you consider prolonger inactivity?

One thing I noticed is that after using Backgrounder a few of my applications now have badge icons displaying 0 even if I am not running them in the background. For example, iProcrastinate, Facebook, and Beejive all display badge icons.

The OS might be capable, but the hardware limitations (single CPU, limited memory, no swap drive) could easily lead to bad user experiences.

.

Let people make their own decisions what they consider bad. I'm willing to slow down my iphone and have a usable application (like IM) if thats what it takes. If its too slow...i can CHOOSE to not do it. I don't care if apple puts a million warnings and clauses saying if this slows down your phone or kills your battery we wont take any responsibility...i still want to choose for myself. Just make it more intuitive then windows mobiles implementation.

Maybe they have Push code built in to them and this has activated it.

After about 5 minutes inactivity of Beejive, when I load it up again the loading icon starts then a new message comes through meaning that it hasnt been constantly connected to the network.

Prolonged activity, say about 25 minutes, then the beejive app closes automatically and I have to re-enable backgrounder

This almost makes me want to jailbreak my iPhone. I don't really have a reason other than that to do it though.

Not interested in Cycorder or MMS? customization etc.?
