okay this as previously stated is a reallys stupid idea.

However, let's say it isn't. If I really needed to run windows on a portable device, I would go buy some cheapo used laptop from craigslist, and it would be cheaper than buying an iphone, and running windows.

If they would emulate Windows CE, I could see some crazy people actually using it. But for Windows XP my imagination is just not big enough to think of at least one useful application.
The announcement of a JVM was by far more useful. Especially since they are planning to actually use a SE in the far future.

Why would anyone want to do this???? The screen is too small to be of any use, believe me I love parralels/fusion to run Windows on my MBP when I need to because I work in IT but I couldn't think of one logical reason I would ever want to run windows on an iPhone or any other mobile phone. I can't even think of any reason you would want to run Windows mobile on the iPhone...

the iphone processes one app/program at a time, and quite well, except for when safari crashes for no reason

but windows...processes 1431 applications extremly poor and with no reason, and crashes for every reason

hmmm....choices...choices....choices

who cares

Who would want to use windows in the first place?

I have always guessed that Apple does this to get their foot in the door for window users with the idea that once they see this inferior system (windows) compared to the MAC OS they will jump ship and go with the MAC OS.

Guess this has worked on the computer platform since they have eaten into the OS market share.

Windows is Junk

First off, I agree. Also, without this making me seem like a douche, I can see that you're noob here, and I'm guessing a relative noob to Apple and its products.

With all that said I want to point out (again not trying to be a douche) that MAC and Mac are different. OS is okay to be capitalized because it's short for operating system. MAC and Mac, on the other hand are not the same. MAC = Media Access Control, among other things, whereas Mac is short for Macintosh. I bet some of you here are going to say "Who cares? We know what he means.." I care. It bothers me.

That'll be all. Again, sorry if I sounded like I was attacking you.

Why? Its like having a drop toilet inside an sterile operating theatre.

When I get my iphone I want it to be rock solid, fast and uterly reliable so I can rely on it in my every day life. I'll use my PC for experimenting.

It's just a bad idea overall, but if it can be done, some people just have to prove that it has to be done.

Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should. I think experimenting with this platform is a great idea; it'll push innovation forward. However, the end result of merely porting a desktop emulator to a handheld seems like a dead end. The real challenge is rebuilding individual applications so they may be useful in pocket form.

Jeez, let them have their fun.. This sort of hacky nonsense is something the mac community should be about!

I know a lot of people who'd play with this just because they could. I mean, it'd be a bit like having DOS-Box, which would make a lot of excellent abandonware classic titles *free* for the iphone.. Loads of excellent free games!

I'm not exactly sure how you'd control most of them (on screen keyboard?) but that's not the point.. Where did everyone's imagination go..?!

I can't think of a super good reason for it, but it would be pretty cool/funny.. Just like installing Linux on a PS3.. No good reason but it's interesting and fun to do.. Not that Apple will allow it, probably. :/

And dont anyone dare use the "waste of time" argument whilst posting on a rumor board. >.< If someone wants to spend their time doing something you wouldn't personally have done, good for them. It's harmless.

Also.. If someone was saying they'd port an Apple-II or Classic/OS9 emulator to it people would be popping up all doey eyed and nostalgic. (I hope someone does, btw) I'd like to see a UAE (Amiga emulator) port most. That would be great. :)

God bless you, Mixel!

I hope one day Macs will have fun communities like Linux and even Windows.
Until then I have to put up with all the mac snobs.

You guys are pretty good at reinforcing the 'elitist Mac user' stereotype. :/

So what? People who buy into that stereotype aren't going to swayed by anything they see here. What should I worry about it for?

Have there been any updates on this since it was announced? Since the iPhone is about as powerful as the Asus EEE PC, in theory, if the emulator was actually good, we can play a lot of older games really decently, even games like WoW and probably some of the new ones.

There is no way in hell that you'd be able to run TIE Fighter on an iPhone-emulated Windows system, let alone WoW. This isn't like Crossover or VMWare. The iPhone runs on an ARM architecture that would have to emulate the x86 architecture of a typical Windows platform. It may work, but it certainly won't be quick.
