Ok, I think I'm going totally crazy with this!!

So despite it having no effect yesterday (believe me I tried!!), this morning I fired up the iMac so I could see the hair and gave the glass a light tap. Sure enough it's disappeared now!! However, there is a tiny speck of dust (barely the size of a pixel).
I then decided to play to see how bad the shadowing and yellowing is, Problem is, I've played about with it that much I think I'm seeing things!!!

It's got to the point now where I don't know if there's any yellowing or not. I've taken some pics that I'll upload to the main yellowing thread once the migration assistant has finished.
When I look at them, its very hard to see any yellowing at all!! I'll see what people think, but I'm now thinking of keeping this one as it could be a lot worse!!

I thought getting a new iMAc was supposed to be a pleasurable experience!! ;)

Sorry to hear that. I too was expecting it to be a nice experience, but after 2 months of running the gauntlet i just gave up.
I do miss it though, and can't really find a real alternative.

I found out that the Dell U2711's i really like, is nothing but trouble with the sleep function on a MBP 15" like the one i have, so right now i don't know what to do.

For those interrested, here's a Thread about the problems with the dell via displayport. http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/p/19339056/19722024.aspx?PageIndex=6

Maybe i should try my luck with a highend 27" 3.1GHz i5 from a retail store, i'm done with the waiting for replacing online BTO orders all the time.

I find that iTunes is the best way to see the yellow. Pull up a screen in iTunes that has the alternating lines of grey & white bars (like by clicking on a playlist) and make it full screen. You should be able to tell very easily if the color is consistent across the screen or not.

Incidentally I'll also mention that some screens are more yellow (across the entire screen) than others. The most recent iMac they sent me was just generally more yellow compared to the one I'm using now. I had to make a radical change to the white point in the color calibration screen to get it to look like something even approaching white (and even then it wasn't as white as the other one). And that's separate from the color uniformity issue, e.g. on top of being generally more yellow it had an even more pronounced yellow area towards the bottom.

It's weird, but I honestly sometimes see yellow, but when I move my eyes I see the yellow everywhere. My brain/eyes are obviously playing tricks on me. I really think if you want to see yellow you will!

I posted some photos in the main thread, would you mind having a look? Cheers.

I just want to add that i actually did end up buying the Dell Ultrasharp U2711 and now use it with my 2010 15" MBP. (with a magic mouse, magic keyboard, & magic trackpad)

I have no issues what so ever, sleep and wake up works fine (despite the thread at Dell's forum), audio is transfered nicely through the Mini Displayport > Displayport cable i bought, and the display is a wonderful bright white without the need for any calibration to compensate for the extreme yellow/warm settings on many of the imac's .

My server, and PS3 is hooked up to it as well. I highly recommend this setup for those who are about to give up on the iMac.
