"Friends don’t let jackasses drink and drive.” - Roger Ebert tweet.

"Friends don’t let jackasses drink and drive.” - Roger Ebert tweet.

Bam Margera's response:

"I just lost my best friend," Margera tweeted late Monday night. "I have been crying hysterical for a full day and piece of s*** roger ebert has the gall to put in his 2 cents... Millions of people are crying right now, shut your fat ********** mouth!"

"Millions...crying"? I think he overestimates the importance of his little tragedy.

... and Ebert retracted... lame. The other person in the car was Zach Hartwell, another bum from the Jackass crowd... at least not an innocent 3rd party, or a girl... I stand by my comment unlike that lame ass Ebert... they died like true jackasses, drinking and driving...

He didn't retract. I'd call it more of a clarification.

The trumped-up "backlash" doesn't change the fact that a person who promoted an at-risk lifestyle suffered the consequences of that lifestyle. There is no gloating here, it's a tragedy, but it could very easily have been prevented. Drunk driving is inexcusable precisely because this sort of thing happens as a result.

If he was drunk and driving i can not feel bad. Its upsetting a passenger died also but luckly they did not kill anyone else. With that said I did like Ryan Dunn and he seemed like a nice guy. Its a sad situation.

The only person I feel sorry for is the passenger, but then again, he got into a car with this moron, so I guess I don't feel too bad about any of it.

Wrong.

"I'm fine, really." "No, I won't speed, honest."

The passenger was not driving, and full responsibility for his/her death rests with Ryan.

If it was only him I would be "meh", except for the trees that he killed.

I love it when people get to pat themselves on the back by proclaiming how morally superior they are to the people in stories like this.

Yes that's great if you think the deceased deserves no sympathy because you would never make the same decision. Now take a bow. ;)

It sounds and reads like children trying to impress the grownups when people do this.

As for Dunn and his passenger, I feel bad to see people die so young and feel for their families. But as for the fame that makes this story news, I have to say I have never watched one episode or movie of jackass. It looks like a total waste of time.

I actually had dinner once with someone in one of the jackass movies. (I don't know the name but it definitely wasn't Dunn). A friend brought him as a guest to the the restaurant. Luckily we were told before hand because there were several of us who would have had nothing good to say about jackass if it had been brought up. But we held our tongues and just said we would have to see it sometime. LOL

No one in this thread has stated anything about themselves driving drunk. Some of us are just expressing our opinions about how people who make decisions like this deserve no sympathy. "The deceased deserves no sympathy" because he put other innocent peoples lives at risk and killed a passenger. Not because any of us are morally superior.

I will however agree that it is just an all around sad event.

Dunn killed his drinking buddy. Sorry, but the passenger got into a car with a drunk -- one he had been drinking with -- and got killed. Am I missing something? It's not like he didn't know Dunn's personality or anything, so surely he wasn't THAT surprised by the speeding.

I wonder if it's one of the other guys in the twit pic.

I agree, his friend, drunk or not, made a decision to get in the car with him, so he's responsible for his own death too.

The backlash to Roger's tweet has been intense. One of the comments to his "clarification" mentions the Frontline documentary "The Merchants of Cool," about the people who are profiting off the Jackasses.

Do we know for sure he was drunk while driving - did the authorities reveal his BAC at the time of the accident? I know there are pictures of him drinking prior that day, but do we know the extent of it?

I don't think anything has been revealed yet except that he was driving 130 mph (how do they know that?) The tox results come out today or tomorrow.

When is drinking and driving ever tragedy?

Self inflicted tragedy is nevertheless, still tragedy. I tell people all the time that one of the most difficult things in life is watching someone you care about make self destructive choices. Senseless and sad, my condolences go out to those affected by this. :(

It has been intense, but it is largely a false, manufactured backlash cultivated by the celebrity gossip "industry". Very few people on either side of the "backlash" really care about the personal side of the story. In that sense it's just a continuation of the Jackass image, i.e., these men have been typecast by society and cannot escape their image, even in death. Particularly when death takes the form of a stunt gone too far.

I liked Roger's tweet. People jump on any chance to be holier than though and usually miss their mark.
