FYI - Discovered that the fall detection works even when the watch is locked.
Was removing my watch from the charging stand and it slipped and I dropped it. I was able to grab it just before it hit the floor but received the "Looks like you have fallen" notification. Had not unlocked the watch yet.

I have experienced this as well when my wife kindly knocked my watch off the bedside charger onto the floor and it promptly asked if I had fallen. Guess it would have started calling if I hadn't picked it up and said I hadn't taken a fall.

I don't understand why that feature is active when charging...

Yea what happens when your gone and the cat knocks it off the table and EMS shows up? Hopefully you will get notification on your phone.

When an old person takes the watch from the charger and falls directly with the watch in his hand it would be recognized and emergency services could be called. If the watch would check for wrist detection first it would not be recognized. What’s better?
From an emergency standpoint I would prefer the first method.
