I’ve been considering selling my stainless steel 45mm series 7 and getting the Ultra 2.

Has anyone else made this jump? Wondering if there’s any feedback if it’s worthwhile upgrade.

With the inevitable price drop on Ultra1 I’ve upgraded my trusty Titanium S7 45Mm to a “nearly new” Ultra 1. Only a few hours in, and it feels like it’s going to be a good move for the battery life alone.

Ultra Modular is a rather cool face too.

It’s not significantly feeling heavier, or bulkier just working out exactly where it is going to “sit”.

I went back and forth multiple times on the Ultra vs S7/8 Hermes last year. For me, the Ultra is so much better primarily due to the battery life. I barely made it through a day on the 7/8 - the Ultra I’m around 60% end of day vs 10% on the 7/8.

Good luck!!

I went from a SB Ti S7 to an Ultra 2 and I am very happy as well here. The battery life has led me to start using the sleep tracking features and the larger screen is a very nice upgrade too. Going from space black titanium to natural titanium makes it feel like a completely different watch design even more so to me. I paired mine with an Apple Link Bracelet which gives it an elegant look that is also extremely functional.

I’ll rain on the parade here. I just bought the AWU2 to replace my series 5 and tbh it feels like a waste of money for my everyday usage. The only reason I’m keeping it is because my battery wasn’t lasting. Otherwise, I feel like the latest watches are still mediocre upgrades.

The Series upgrades are pretty awful (6 through 9) but with the Ultra you get a new design, amazing battery life, bigger screen, titanium, and the action button.

I think it makes sense especially coming from a Series 5.

It makes sense for the double tap feature alone. Ultra 1 can’t do this. Sold my ultra 1 for the potential double tap upgrade.

Thinking of doing this too, just the sticker shock is hard to get past: $800 versus 400 something ….I wasted two hours first with chat and then with somebody calling me back yesterday on Apple “support“ to find out that they claim my battery life is normal, having to charge it twice a day or more. series 7.

I went from S7 to S9 and loving it!

Best battery life which was my #1 complaint.

Don't have a need for Ultra as I don't use any features on my Apple Watch except for time and EV remote.

I did 45mm Series 7 GPS to Ultra 2 and have been pleased so far.

It depends on what you mean by worthwhile upgrade, that varies from person to person.

For me, it came down to a few things: Battery (always my top concern), Cellular, Titanium.

My S7's battery had started to noticeably age, although I could still stretch to 2 days if I was really careful with usage. On the Ultra 2, that's not going to be a problem. I gave it a full charge Wednesday night before going to bed at 10:00pm. It is now almost 6:00pm on Friday, and I have 32% battery remaining. In the meantime I've done two 30 minute workouts, one while playing an audiobook from it, used it for driving directions, sent texts, checked email and weather while on cellular, and done all my usual activities and uses with it. I'm over 43 hours of usage and still have about 1/3 of the battery left. It's going to easily make 48 hours and I'm feeling no stress about the battery at all. That alone is worth the price of entry. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I intend to use my S7 for sleep tracking and only wear the Ultra during the day, however I had been traveling for the past few days, and decided to only take the Ultra. So I wore it to bed both nights of this "test." At this point, I'm confident it would make it until tomorrow morning for a full 56 hours of normal usage on a single charge.

I've never had a cellular watch, but getting one appealed to me, because I hate carrying a phone on me when running, and I want to do more running workouts. But I also need to stay connected for work. So upgrading to a cellular watch was desirable.

I really wanted a Titanium watch, and Apple no longer gives a choice in that department.

So for me, going from the S7 to the U2 was kind of an obvious thing to do, and I'm really happy with my choice.

I do like a few other things on the Ultra vs the Series watches.

The flat crystal is nice, and so is the larger screen. It's a lot easier to type without messing up on this screen, even compared to the 45mm. When I first started wearing an Apple Watch, I had accidental crown presses against my hand or arm that got annoying. As I got used to the watch and adjusted to it, that rarely happened anymore. With the Ultra there's no real chance of that happening. I've had no accidental presses of any of the buttons, with the exception of the Action Button when I was first getting used to having a third button.

Went from S7 Ti to Ultra last year and Ultra 2 a week ago. I wear my S7 for sleep tracking every other night, no desire to wear it during the day anymore.
Go try one on and see if you like it, there are lots of folks who love the move, others have returned the Ultra.
Check out the sticky thread about returning the Ultra, there are many different view points in there…

Keep your S7 stainless and add the Ultra. There may be times when you want to dress up the S7 with a stainless band and trade in values are not great.

It‘s not a bad idea to keep a second watch handy when you need to charge your primary device, or just want to wear something different.

Kept my series 7 in a drawer and purchased the ultra 2, but after one week, I made a decision to return the ultra 2 and keep the 7 since it was not much of an upgrade that I would actually use with the exception of the longer battery life. I like my series 7 and still has some good battery life still in it. If you do get the ultra 2, keep the seven for at least couple weeks. Then, if you decide to keep it, you can sell your 7 but you can’t get that much money for it.

I upgraded from the Series 6 (which is basically a Series 7), and the Ultra 2 is a major upgrade. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is what the Apple Watch should have been from the very beginning.

I didn’t end up getting the iPhone 15 Pro Max as I don’t feel like waiting 2 months for it, but the Series 6 to Ultra 2 feels like a bigger upgrade than the iPhone 11 Pro Max to iPhone 15 Pro Max based on playing with the devices in the Apple Store.

I caved. How’s it look? Too big?

nah to this advice. the Ultra charges fast and if you get the $20 titanium steel band off amazon, it looks classy. lots of people on here are chair jockeys so they dont fully utilize the Ultra. its an advanced sport watch but if you dont do that, there are other features that are worth upgrading for. The on watch Siri is fast. faster than pulling out a phone. the modular face is great cause now it's all in front of you to glimpse at for reference. The battery life is great and I couldn't go back to the other watched for this reason mainly due to the hassle of daily prepping the watch. Im not even mentioning the upcoming tap feature but for me the points I outlined were enough to leave the S5 behind.

only reason I see people owning 2 watches is if they work construction and have dirty hands so need to make calls/see texts on wrist and dont care to damage the old watch. There is also the idea that if you travel to 3rd world countries, you can wear the cheap old watch in case you get robbed.

the point of having the ultra is so you dont have to keep taking it off before bed or in morning. It has kinda replaced my phone and I loaded all my audible books and apple playlists into it and still have 50gb left. not sure why people complaining about all these updates. they must not leave the house often and probably dont need a watch other than to track sleep.

Thanks for sharing your opinion but I’ll keep my S7 Graphite just the same.

Went from SS7 to U2 and not looking back! I’ve worn the same design so long, it’s fun to have the upgraded battery life and large display. Nice to have choices!! They’re both great watches.

I made the switch from the S7 to the Ultra 2 this week. The biggest difference for me is battery life and the larger screen. The watch felt very heavy at first but after a few days I got used to it. I started using sleep tracking, I couldnt with the S7 because the battery was at 20% or less at the end of the day. Very happy so far.

What app are you using for sleep tracking? I’ve been looking at auto sleep…

I'm on the fence about going from S7 to U2 mainly because the wife is poopooing the idea and I though I scuba dive, it's relatively infrequent and I have an air integrated watch computer. So, no need for the "extreme" features for me but would like a bigger screen and longer battery life. I would get the U1 but it's not much of a discount and I'd rather just pay the little bit extra now and future proof a bit.
