I’ve been considering selling my stainless steel 45mm series 7 and getting the Ultra 2.
Has anyone else made this jump? Wondering if there’s any feedback if it’s worthwhile upgrade.
I did 45mm Series 7 GPS to Ultra 2 and have been pleased so far.
It depends on what you mean by worthwhile upgrade, that varies from person to person.
For me, it came down to a few things: Battery (always my top concern), Cellular, Titanium.
My S7's battery had started to noticeably age, although I could still stretch to 2 days if I was
really careful with usage. On the Ultra 2, that's not going to be a problem. I gave it a full charge Wednesday night before going to bed at 10:00pm. It is now almost 6:00pm on Friday, and I have 32% battery remaining. In the meantime I've done two 30 minute workouts, one while playing an audiobook from it, used it for driving directions, sent texts, checked email and weather while on cellular, and done all my usual activities and uses with it. I'm over 43 hours of usage and still have about 1/3 of the battery left. It's going to
easily make 48 hours and I'm feeling no stress about the battery at all. That alone is worth the price of entry. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I intend to use my S7 for sleep tracking and only wear the Ultra during the day, however I had been traveling for the past few days, and decided to only take the Ultra. So I wore it to bed both nights of this "test." At this point, I'm confident it would make it until tomorrow morning for a full 56 hours of normal usage on a single charge.
I've never had a cellular watch, but getting one appealed to me, because I hate carrying a phone on me when running, and I want to do more running workouts. But I also need to stay connected for work. So upgrading to a cellular watch was desirable.
I really wanted a Titanium watch, and Apple no longer gives a choice in that department.
So for me, going from the S7 to the U2 was kind of an obvious thing to do, and I'm really happy with my choice.
I do like a few other things on the Ultra vs the Series watches.
The flat crystal is nice, and so is the larger screen. It's a lot easier to type without messing up on this screen, even compared to the 45mm. When I first started wearing an Apple Watch, I had accidental crown presses against my hand or arm that got annoying. As I got used to the watch and adjusted to it, that rarely happened anymore. With the Ultra there's no real chance of that happening. I've had no accidental presses of any of the buttons, with the exception of the Action Button when I was first getting used to having a third button.
