I'm on the fence about going from S7 to U2 mainly because the wife is poopooing the idea and I though I scuba dive, it's relatively infrequent and I have an air integrated watch computer. So, no need for the "extreme" features for me but would like a bigger screen and longer battery life. I would get the U1 but it's not much of a discount and I'd rather just pay the little bit extra now and future proof a bit.
its thanks to posts by guys like you that I'm reminded to have a casual life and not get married. Hat off to you sir. Good day.

Keep your S7 stainless and add the Ultra. There may be times when you want to dress up the S7 with a stainless band and trade in values are not great.

It‘s not a bad idea to keep a second watch handy when you need to charge your primary device, or just want to wear something different.
Trade in values are awful for Ti models. eBay, at least in the UK, offers easily double for the premium models assuming you’re prepared to run that gauntlet.

her bags and shoes are a waste too.
Actually, she has few of both. She's pretty simple when it comes to shoes, purses and clothes...she's still entitled to her opinion. The $ is a non-issue in case you are wondering. She is the type of person to run most of her gadgets into the ground before she gets a new one where I typically upgrade often and an early adopter. That said, as much as I think the Vision Pro is cool, that's even a little much even for me on a gen 1 device though I could easily afford it.

I bought 2 vr headsets. sold one and dont use the other. With apple, I learned to buy the 3rd gen of a new tech thing. but my biggest worry is that I buy so many gadgets on impulse that it all keeps me in the house and there is maintenance setup/update time with every gadget so the things I own end up owning me. each time I get some new toy I end up researching it, reading about it, troubleshooting etc. it eats life away. Id only get a headset if it really changes the game wiht flight sim and doesnt give headaches.

I’ll rain on the parade here. I just bought the AWU2 to replace my series 5 and tbh it feels like a waste of money for my everyday usage. The only reason I’m keeping it is because my battery wasn’t lasting. Otherwise, I feel like the latest watches are still mediocre upgrades.
I agree and that is why I only upgrade every few years. I was using my series 7 until last night and I decided to buy an Ultra 2 from BestBuy. New design and battery life alone is worth it. I've had the watch for 24 hrs now and the battery is still at 66%.

Yeah I went with the ultra just to have something different. But the battery life is so nice and I do enjoy the larger display. I’m also known to bang my watch off of concrete walls so the titanium enclosure should be a good thing.
