Cool, I wonder if it will run, or just crash when I try to run it like 0.74 does now.

Anyone else having this problem? Any advice?

Yeah, I hear you AppleMatt: Safari crashes A LOT.

But it's a beta, so I guess to complain would be to miss the point.
WOW I've only had safari quit on me once in all the time I've been using it (knock on wood). It still does not work on a few sites mostly the sites fault but oh well.

Whoo hoo!

As my sig now notes, I've got Safari v80 back up and running, despite it's refusal to reinstall after I dumped it.

The trick was in poking around the installer, and it's package contents. In order to keep the installer from telling you your computer can't install v80, you simply remove "VolumeCheck" from the contents.

While v80 has its bugs, it's a heluva lot better than Explorer and Chimera (no offense Chimera, I just like Safari better).

*Note: I don't recommed anyone doing what I've done to the installer should they have it for some reason. I'm just a nutjob risk taker. ;)

Free Safari ?!?!?!?

Since Windoze won' be makeing IE for mac , THANK YOU STEVE, that Apple will make Safari a free browser?!?!

i think hes talking about once its official release comes out.

anyway, as far as im concerned, ive been using safari since its first day out and its always worked for me. im happy with apples progress as well....i just hope microsoftpulling the plug on the mac version of IE doesnt hurt apple.

Err...when have you even had to pay for Safari?
I remember an old Spymac rumor that claimed Apple was going to box iChat, Safari, and Mail into an iLife thingy. But there wasn't a shred of evidence, and who's really going to pay for any of those (I like Safari and Mail, but I'd just keep using free versions).

See this for information on v80 -- and why it screws everything up.
i have had v80 for awhile now myself, and everything is going on beautifully. your link discusses v80. is that not different from v80?

Download Manager Changes?

So, for those of you "beta testing" build v80, has the Download Manager been improved any? Can we pause/restart downloads yet?

there is an "x" button on each download. if you press it, the download marks itself cancelled, but you can restart it via a button there. i don't know if it resumes from the middle of the DL where you left off or starts from block one.

Seeing as how Microsoft says it will no longer develop IE and the Microsoft-Apple partnership is over: NO!

Regrettably doesn't Microsoft own stock in Apple? Short of selling the stock I think the relationship is still very much alive.

Not anymore. Non-voting stock, as I recall. Sold for a nice tidy profit.

5-year agreement is UP! No default installs unless Steve is feeling generous. Which is never.

Re: Mac makes noise when using Safari

Hey all. I used to have a Titanium PB and used Safari on it. When it had a lot of information to load or websites took a long time I would hear a squeaking noise from coming underneath the keyboard.

I now have a 17" and sometimes hear the same noise. This is really annoying so I don't use it. I'm using Mozilla and am quite happy with it as it remembers information so I don't have to enter it over and over...but does anyone have any idea as to why this is helping.

So if anyone has this same experience or any advice I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

I also have a PB G4 and have the same problem. The problems is caused when a site uses plugin like flash. Safari only loads plugins when they are needed, unlike other browsers that load the plugins at startup. It takes a very long time for Safari to load the plugin and then load the website. However once the plugin has been loaded Safari is a lot quicker. The advantage of this method is Safari can be quicker to load than other browsers like IE or Firebird.

Hmmm.

Don't know much about Safari at all. Simply used it at the nearby Apple Store from time to time. However, my wish list is:

They have tabs.
Safari has a built-in auction watch app better than what IE currently provides. (Waitaminute, doesn't the new sherlock do this?)

Safari still doesn't work with some secure sites for me, ie my bank and school. Hope v1.0 fixes this. I can't wait to get rid of IE permanently.

Safari already has tabs (they're even better in v80, as long as you don't mind the occassional unexpected quit), and they're great (Chimera's tabs seem so old to me now...).

And while Sherlock does have eBay auction watching, it isn't great.

Auction watching capabilities is not something that should be built into a browser. A browser should be lightweight, do its job of displaying websites, and nothing else.

Its when you start adding features like auction watching that you end up with bloated, slow browsers.

If you need to automatically watch autions, get some stand-alone program to do it.

Just my 2 cents,
Josh
