Oh yay. The sidebar. That thing that I've looked online to find a way to disable so that it stops appearing when the mouse is at the left edge of Safari. That thing that everyone on forums thinks they know the solution to but haven't paid attention to the actual complaint the person inquiring for a solution is talking about (stop it from appearing in the first place; the view menu command doesn't stop it appearing).

So this is new in what way?

Any idea why they removed from the preferences advanced tab the "Never use font sizes smaller than option and thus took away the the ability to select a default font size for browsing, now it has that stupid page zoom 115%, 125%, etc. option that is not very impressive at all.

I had to resort to using an edited style sheet to increase the tiny font on web pages when at 100%. Apple went and took away a feature that didn't need to be removed. A simple search of Safari 10 fonts will reveal some folks are having the same dislike for this change in Safari 10.

Ive been using the Tech Preview until now. This Safari feels on par with the latest TP and doesnt seem to suffer the same kinds of crashes and inconsistencies.

Sweet, I found a terminal command to set minimum font size for Safari 10, I'm on Yosemite, but imagine it should work for El Capitan and Sierra

defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2MinimumFontSize -int 24

The 24 value at the end can be changed to any desired minimum font size preferred. I use a value of 17 and my Safari 10 page fonts look just like I had it in Safari 9. :)

I don't have a sidebar in Safari but that's because I disabled it. Can you screenshot the problem?

Is there ANY way to right click a Safari link to open it in a new tab? In Chrome you can do this, but in Safari I have to copy and paste the link in a new tab. It's incredibly frustrating.

This is what comes up on right click in Safari.

Well, I'm quite irritated at this so-called upgrade. In improving Auto-Fill from contacts cards (something I never did), it managed to wipe out the ability for Safari to remember text that was last typed into a certain kind of field on a page. I use a manuscript management system that contains form letters that I need to send out a couple times a day. I used to be able to start typing someone's e-mail address and the field would auto-populate with the last e-mail address that was in that field. Now? Nope. The only option I'm given is to choose someone from a contact card. Thanks, Safari.

** EDIT **
I went back in to this manuscript system after my mini-rant, and now Safari is filling in the information again. I have no idea...

Is it possible you have an extension installed that's auto showing the sidebar? I seem to remember having one that would trigger the sidebar and other things when the mouse hovered on the edge of a window. Can't remember what it's called.

Edit: Oh I see - it's a normal full-screen behavior. Never mind. Yes should be an pref to turn it off.

Actually I had this completely wrong. What I was actually talking about was that when you highlight a word in Safari, you can never search in a new tab like you can on Chrome. It ends up searching in your current tab, which takes you away from the page you're on.

This has truly been the most frustrating thing about Safari, and I still don't know of a fix for it.

UPDATE: nevermind, it does just that now. My brain is fried

I just hold command when I click the search in Google option.

Same issues here, page zoom is kind of worthless with my 24" 1920x1200 display because 100% is too small yet 115% is too large. I also don't like to zoom pics beyond their native res.

Why must Apple remove features like this? Did they really think a minimum font size option was too complicated? I feel like the new Apple has contempt for me as a user, like they think I'm not smart enough to use options so they remove them.

Here's a way to set min. font size in the terminal. Easier (for me) than a stylesheet.

because cmd + z was too hard?
Because Cmd + Z opened only one last closed tab, there wasn't closed tabs history. Now with Cmd + Shift + T you can open the last, and the one before, and so on.

UPD Well, you can do the same thing with Cmd + Z now, but in version 9 you couldn't. It did only one step back.
[doublepost=1474833372][/doublepost]Another nice thing: "Right Click > Search with Google" now opens a new tab by default. In Safari 9 you needed to hold the Command key to open it in new tab.

Apple released macOS Sierra today with Safari 10 preinstalled, but Mac users still running the latest versions of OS X El Capitan or OS X Yosemite can now download the all-new version of the web browser too from the Mac App Store.

Safari 10 for OS X Yosemite and OS X El Capitan does not include all of the new features available in macOS Sierra, like Apple Pay on the web and picture-in-picture support for videos, but the update includes the following new functions:

[*]Safari Extensions such as 1Password, Save to Pocket, and DuckDuckGo
[*]New Bookmarks sidebar, including double-click to focus in on a folder
[*]Redesigned Bookmarks and History views
[*]Site-specific zoom: Safari remembers and re-applies your zoom level to websites
[*]Improved AutoFill from Contacts card
[*]Reader improvements, including in-line sub-headlines, bylines, and publish dates
[*]Legacy plug-ins are turned off by default in favor of HTML5 versions of websites
[*]Allow reopening of recently closed tabs through the History menu, holding the "+" button in the tab bar, and using Shift-Command-T
[*]When a link opens in a new tab, it is now possible to hit the back button or swipe to close it and go back to the original tab
[*]Improved ranking of Frequently Visited Sites
[*]Web Inspector Timelines Tab
[*]Debugging using Web Inspector

Safari 10 also includes a number of security updates, including fixes for six WebKit vulnerabilities and issues related to Reader and Tabs.

[doublepost=1475275247][/doublepost]this is weird:

happened to look at my Safari browser history today, which I regularly clean out, and somehow or someone was Googling flights to Barcelona and visiting the Prado art museum this morning from my Safari. This is a private PC and no one else uses it.

it wasn't me checking out flights and the museum!

Apple had no answer for this bizarre issue; we reviewed and checked everything possible.

never saw this happen before; check your browser history, you may be next!
