Push Notifications and Safari 11

Sorry if this is the wrong thread to ask. Ever since I updated my macOS Sierra browser to Safari 11, clicking, for instance, on any new MacRumors Push Notification only causes the notification to disappear. No tab is opened and I can't read the relevant piece of news. Everything was fine before updating. Is there a setting to fix this?

EDIT: The situation solved itself after a couple of reboots. I have no idea why.

amazon prime video doesn't work anymore for me after the update. any suggestions?
If it's anything like the BBC radio player - go to 'Settings for this website' in the Safari menu and change Autoplay to "allow all autoplay" - this fixed the BBC radio player for me which prior to that change just wouldn't work, no matter how many times I pressed the Play button.

Heads up, The WebGL options disapear at least in El Capitan, which causes some sites when using the Nvidia web driver to not function. (roll20 for example)

Mavericks hasn't gotten any updates (aside from iTunes) in a year. Even Yosemite doesn't get Safari 11.

With the release of High Sierra next week, Yosemite will no longer receive any Safari or other security updates. It's time to upgrade!
Yosemite is already running like crap on my iMac...can't even imagine if I dump anything newer into it.

Now for some bad news. On upgrading to Safari 11 I discovered that shared links were no longer implemented. This is the mechanism I used for my RSS feeds. I'm annoyed not only that this feature has been removed, but that there was no warning with the upgrade that this would be the case.

Unfortunately, the Chicago Tribune's website is still auto-playing video in the new Safari.

this safari works like a charm, i'm impressed
(scream:eek:) I wish it were working like a charm for me.

I'm exploring ways to revert to Safari 10. Have tried using Time Machine but it throws up error messages.

Since updating to Safari 11 (on Sierra) a few days ago, web pages don't function correctly:
Buttons missing or if clicked, do nothing
Arrows missing, or if there, do nothing if clicked
Tabs at the top of pages like Flickr if clicked reload page & revert to first tab
Some fields in search boxes won't allow typing anymore
Twitter Likes & retweets -the animations begin but halfheartedly fizzle out, likes & retweets don't stick.
Some images are missing from pages --like bookcovers from my Library/Overdrive. Including Loan or Hold buttons
So frustrating!

I only updated Safari after reading all the comments in this thread to be sure others weren't having problems.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hmm... have not seen wide spread reports of others with these issues. Do you maybe have some extensions installed that are incompatible? How about disabling all extensions just to test?

Thank you. Yes, I read your post re AdGuard working best so I replaced AdBlock with it, no luck. I'm also running Ghostery & WOT as well, turned them off too, no changes.

Emptied caches. Started up in Safe mode, etc. Ran EtreCheck which didn't report anything odd.... So I thought, well, let's turn this thing back to the previous Safari with TM, but that's stymied.

Anyone else having problems with the zoom in safari 11? I pinch to zoom with my magic trackpad and the page re configures itself so what I what I was zooming into moves off screen. This was a problem before but only when I clicked on a dialog box. Now it happens right off the bat. Makes using it almost impossible for me.

I just uninstalled every extension from Safari. Closed Safari & then restarted my iMac. Tested various webpages. Unfortunately, arrows still missing, Likes & retweets not tweeting, various elements from Library/Overdrive still missing.
But I do see ads now. Bangs head on desk.

But, in either case, you have to choose and install a compatible plugin on your own (there are many available).
That was exactly what was confusing me. As there is a separate Extensions tab in Safari Preferences, it wasn't obvious to me that the Websites -> Content Blockers section is useless without a third party extension. Thanks to you and @Weaselboy for helping me with explaining answers.

Does anyone know a good alternative to AdGuard? I like that AdGuard is Open Source, but I'd prefer a solution that is not sending all website requests to an additional third party server. Preferably I'm looking for a Safari extension that can help modifying the local hosts file or a local proxy on the fly while browsing (to redirect specific requests to 127.0.0.1.).

Why do you think AdGuard sends your info to a third party?

You might be think of AdGuard for Mac that is a paid product and a VPN that would do that, but the free extension version does not. There are two options in the settings where you can allow them to see some info on your browsing, but you can just turn that off.

Ah... I see what you mean. I never had that turned on, so never read that. I guess just turn the feature off it it bothers you. macOS has built in malware detection anyway, so I figured extension protection was redundant.

Thanks! Looks like fitting better to my needs. I'll check it out!
uBlock Origin is fine, but just be aware it is not the newer content blocker style extension.
