In what way? I never had any colour features when I used tabs in FF as they were way too distracting and I feel that Safari is better than FF in its use of tabs (the same, but draggable to a new window)

tab friendly, such as

a new tab button somewhere?

a single window mode somewhere without searching for plugins? Safari isn't famous for plugins after all.

somewhere you can set up such that external app will open new tab instead of new window in safari?

I am simply talking about basic tab functions, not referring to more flexible tab functions offered by extensions for firefox (double click to close a tab, color tabs, shrink tab size, move tab to left side, put a preview of the tab when mouse move to it, etc).

To say safari has better tab function... IMHO, is like putting heaviest weight on smallest issue. dragging tab to a new windows (when most of the time safari has multiple window already)? do you really think thats more important than the basic functions i mentioned above? Which are available in all browsers except safari?

ha safari crashed on my touch while reading this (4 the 1st time). Crashes on leopard for me all the time, but so does leopard so maybe its a bigger issue then safari. I think safari for leopard and touch are diffrent anyway.

I have three Safari plug-ins (and may pay for TabExposé soon, I like the trial). I have Inquisitor for search, Pith for adblocking and Stand for all my other needs - it lets me use single window mode and gives an option of having a new tab button. It also lets me search without typing CMD+F first and scroll through tabs. There are many other features, but I only use the ones mentioned.

I have used it a lot since the Safari 3 beta.

well, "you used it alot" does not make it more important than a "new tab button" in general users, really, why is that so difficult for safari anyway? Isn't new tab button one of the mot demanded feature in safari?

I didn't say its impossible, sure you can cmd+click, sure you can cmd+T, sure you can install safaristand.. its not impossible, its "unfriendly", means not easy, not intuitive.

safaristand, again, firefox might be famous for extensions, first page you see after installation is a page with a link to addons. But safari is NOT famous for that, its not impossible, but again, unfriendly.

Safari 3 is very unstable for me when using any webpages from the Yahoo family, so I'm using Firefox until Safari is hopefully updated.

As much as I hate bad-mouthing Apple software, Safari 3 is simply ridiculously unstable.
I've already had to apologise to a couple of switchers that recently got MacBooks for Safari's instability.

I can't speak for everyone else but I did a complete erase and install upon installing Leopard so I haven't experienced crashing in Safari 3 anymore than I have when I used Safari 2 in Tiger. Safari 3 Beta did crash a lot as to be expected.

What do you mean you had to apologize to recent switchers? Firstly they are coming from Windows where they should be used to Internet Explorer's issues and secondly it's common sense for ANY computer to have issues especially web browsing crashes, if your switchers weren't expecting anything less than perfection on the Macintosh then that's THEIR bad and they shouldn't be using a computer.

Safari crashes a lot more for myself and my friend who's a recent switcher than Internet Explorer. Neither of us use tabs but we do quite a few windows at once. I did an erase and install when I put Leopard on. It crashes a lot more on my MacBook than it does on my Mac Pro but it definitely still does. There's probably some issue with some other software that we both use. 🙁

I find Safari 3 to be much more stable than Safari 2. I've had it crash 4 times since it came out, mostly related to Flash sucking all the memory from my computer.

I would say that you are right in your assumption. 3rd party haxies and so forth can affect your software performance. My Safari 3 crashed once last week and that was the first time in weeks and I am heavy tab user. I don't use any haxies or mods on my Mac. You might wanna check for any unusual software you have on your Macs and see if it's the culprit especially any Safari enhancers.

Safari 3 Totally Sucks

Crashes all the time. Almost seems like a Microsoft application. I hope this is one of the 120 fixes in 1.5.2.

On my iPod Touch Safari is the most annoying thing in the world. It's constantly crashing and messing up, sometimes it doesn't recognise a click. I hate it, I nearly smashed my iPod because of it. I have a bad temper haha 😛
:apple:

This is funny. I started a threat with the exact same title minus the emoticon a few months ago. I was running Tiger and it came with the 10.4.11 update. Safari 3 crashed every time I closed a window or tab. It also crashed on several sites I frequent. Unfortunately, Apple provides no way to go back to Safari 2. So I did a fresh reinstall of Tiger, then the 10.4.11 update, and the same thing happened. So I reinstalled Tiger again and only updated to 10.4.10.

On Friday, I got a new Mac Pro with Leopard, and Safari 3 works flawlessly. Actually, the whole system and OS is a dream. I'm in love.

i can't say i'm having this problem. and often i have anywhere between 1 and 10 tabs open.. and i close them too 😉

hey,

i was wondering if anyone can help me figure out a way to have my searches in a new tab..

i.e. when i highlight something than right click "search in google" i want the search to come up in a new tab if possible.. 😱

Safari 3 does not crash on my 10.4.11, but it takes quite a bit longer for me to start any apps right after a login. 10.4.11 made my Mac login feel more like Windows, where it seems like the login has completed, but there are still a lot of things running in the background preventing you from actually using the computer.

Oh, in regards to the missing "new tab" button: This is gotta be the dumbest omission in any Mac software. I would also appreciate more control over tab focus (Shift focus to the new blank tab, but do not change the focus if I decide to open a link in a new tab.)

safari 3 on leopard 10.5.1 never ever ever crashes on me. I've had leopard for about 2 months and safari hasn't crashed once, and I use it constantly.

Just some more anecdotal evidence to add to the pile.

My major criticism of Safari is that it cannot handle Flash properly. Watching a Youtube vid uses nearly 60% of my CPU, that's just plain ridiculous.
Camino, Shiira and FF all use less when handling Flash but I still prefer Safari.

Probably irrelevant, but I've been having problems with Safari 3.0.4 on Tiger. It kept locking when watching videos (at least on .wmv files). I downloaded the Java update and it seems fine now.

I haven't had any problems with Safari 3 tabs, but I have run into one problem I had with Safari 2 that seems worse in 3.

There are certain websites and web pages that will crash Safari every time.

There is a motel chain I stay at often that requires you to go through an authentication page to access the web. That page crashes Safari every time. It loads up fine, but as soon as I try to input the required password Safari crashes. So I open up Fire Fox, log into their system, and then open Safari. It works fine as long as I don't use it on the authentication page.

Similar situation on my banks website. All the pages work fine except one. It loads fine, but as soon as I try to input data in a field, crash!

I've also noticed that if you leave Safari open for too long, it'll start sucking up vast quantities of memory.

That's more of an Adobe issue than anything, because their Flash plug-in for the Mac is nowhere near as optimized compared to its Windows counterpart.

Its a vague issue, who knows if its because Unix system that does not offer direct interaction for flash plugin... I doubt adobe just simply don't want to make it good, since obviously adobe is making all other of its products good on mac.
