I don't seem to have much problem. Right now running 3 safari tabs with a tab streaming internet radio. Only consuming 200mb.

Edit. The internet radio actually uses flash to run too

I had Safari open earlier with one tab, it must have been left open for around hmm, two hours I guess. Anyway it was at around 600Mb of usage in total! That's CRAZY!

I'm not too bothered as I don't really like Safari due to the lack of extensions but that is a super bad leak.

Having all kinds of issues with Safari. Beachballing, VERY slow loading, general weirdness, computer crunching/working hard, etc. Going back to snow Leopard.

Same here. Had it since the GM seed release in early July -- hoped that Apple would patch Safari on launch day (they did), but still didn't fix this issue. Maybe it's something related to the OS, then. Waiting for 10.7.1 now ...

By the way, seems to be related to loading images, maybe in general, but DEFINITELY in RSS feeds. Quitting/relaunching Safari fixes the issue (for a while).

I too am facing the same problem. The problem goes as far as to making my entire os goes sluggish and unusable. It's really annoying. Is there a way to downgrade to safari to the prior version? Right now, I can't even do simple task such as browsing the Internet.

Safari : 193MB
Safari Web Content: 268MB

4 Tabs Open and surfing for about 30 minutes ish...

Have not closed safari or rebooted in about 24 hours...

So no issues here?

This is definitely an issue for me. I use Safari for web dev (2011 mbp i7) and noticed it yesterday when I had a few tabs from cpanel open, my dev site, and inspector. I closed everything but the problem remained. Very sluggish. I am going to watch the memory today to see what happens.

It reminds me of the bs I went through after installing an OCZ V3 in my 2011 i7 mbp. Beachballing like crazy. Fortunately, this time it seems contained to Safari.

I think everyone needs to put down what hardware they are using when posting.

Havent noticed any sluggishness in it

but currently have macrumours and apple discussions open (just the 2 tabs)

Safari Web Content 267MB
Safari 143MB

2007 MacBook with 2 GB RAM

seems more ram usage than in SL, could be normal, not sure

I wonder if this is why I suddenly started seeing 5 gigs of HD space gone, which when I reboot comes back. My Air must be running out of memory and switching over to the HD.

Well, this is weird. Some people are reporting a loss in disk space. When I upgraded, I gained specifically 5GB on both my iMac and MacBook.

And Keynote is taking 1GB of RAM, even on am empty presentation. I don't seem to be having any problem with Safari's memory usage, either. Both Safari + Safari Web Content never go over 400MB, even with 5-6 tabs open.

I installed Lion twice, and downgrade to SL twice.

I will stick with SL until lion get at least two updates.

This is exactly what I'm facing.
Welcome to my life. I start hemorrhaging like crazy about 2 minutes into a browsing session, up to about 1.5GB within 5 minutes. Not even a reboot can save me....

Back to chrome and my non-magical scrolling :(

My safari memory problem stopped when I removed my plugins and installed the extension clicktoflash.

Yeah I'm almost positive now that adblock was the problem. I wonder if there are any decent alternatives to this plugin.

If you don't want to use plugins, try GlimmerBlocker. It's a proxy filter. Can't get more stable than this.

In Snow Leopard, Safari would get up to 600 MB or more in a hurry. In Lion, i've had no problems at all. I almost have to try to force it to get over 250 MB.

Safari Version 5.1 (6534.50) on 10.6.8 crashed 3-4 times since i updated it yesterday. Seems with 5.1 ist something wrong.

I have found that I can replicate the memory leak when I visit certain websites....

9to5mac.com being one of them

Back to Chrome for me

+1 on Safari leaking memory in Lion. At first, I thought it was Flash plug-in related. Uninstalled Flash altogether. Today, another major memory leak - I have 8GB of RAM, and was down to 12MB!!!

Another "back to Chrome" user.

Everyone experiencing this issue - PLEASE report this to Apple directly. This is the best way to get them moving on fixing this: http://www.apple.com/feedback/safari.html
