From the wording, at least on the German interface, it sounds more like a feature that can be enabled for 3rd parties? Maybe they gave up on their own cuz they couldn’t get it right
I think they plan to offer integration with 3rd parties to avoid ending up in court. Launching these could pretty much kill companies such as Tile so showing they are offering integration options allows them to avoid anti competition lawsuits.

JUSt got it going on SE, Mac Catalina, and ancient iPad Mini 2 - the mini can't run the app of course but it DOES show up on Mac and phone. I cannot find any way yet to add a couple of tiles I already have deployed (luggage, keys) - not on phone OR Mac apps. Any ideas - or is add additional devices not active yet? Pretty cool.

But. I still wonder. How is this not going to cause massive privacy concerns and dramatic relationship troubles with people shoving these tags in everyone's bag they want to spy on... It seems highly unethical to sell a super small surveillance device to the masses.

I've seen quite a lot of reports in the last few days on Twitter of this just starting to randomly pop up on phones. Considering the only 3rd-party item that has been announced for the Find My network is a set of Belkin headphones which won't be shipping until later the year the timing seems a bit strange.

I’m thinking this is just a running joke by King Tim’s court jester. We’ll see Apple cars and buses before we see AirTags.

There's more, like a . mov video which does not work on MR

I think it’s both. Enabling 3rd parties is likely to prevent any regulators getting engaged.

It is both. It seems like a lot of people missed Belkin releasing an earbud set at CES that includes Apple's "Find My" integration.

In the bulletpoints:
  • Apple Find My integration so you always know where your earbuds are

I agree with him less and less by the day, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Prosser is right here, and the reason we haven’t seen these is because, even though they’ve been done for months, apple doesn’t wanna release “trackers for lost items” when millions and millions of people are literally stuck in their houses.
It would’ve been just like the original Apple TV launch, wrong place, wrong time.
Not only are people less likely to lose stuff when they're home all day, there's also a lot less people roaming around, so the actual finding performance is going to be significantly below par.

"Accidently" mentioned Airtags, like Apple marketing doesn't know that controlled leaks results in millions of dollars of free advertisement.

Lol this argument still? News flash:
There’s plenty of other tiny trackers on the market already. With some of them being actual gps based.

Anyone can already track you by throwing a $50 android phone into your bag/car etc.

I can get some decent GPS 3/4G tracker on eBay for $50.

If someone wants to track you, they haven’t been waiting for Apple to release a product to do it.

After hearing about this and Belkin releasing earbuds that work with the FindMy app I have to believe that AirTags are done and ready to be released. I'm really starting to wonder if Apple is waiting for the lock downs to be over before releasing them.

I notice typing airtags give the red spelling underline, as does AirTahs, but not AirTags on iOS. So....

I’m actually surprised to see they aren’t going after Apple like they are for Facebook and Google. Apple was the first one to start monopolizing the App Store and getting rich at the content provider’s expense.

Looking forward to this. I haven’t been following closely, but do these allow tracking anywhere across the world by using other iPhone devices to locate. I thought I remember some company offering that or was going to offer it. That would be ideal to hide these on important property like cars, RZRs etc and be able to find it like LoJack.

I will hide one of those things inside my Vespa scooter, just in case it gets stolen. :)

Do not see the point of airtags if they are adding tile support natively.

This may be a product that they spend time on but never comes to market because there is no point.
