I thought they were supposed to be fine-tuning this program? What happened?
Adobe has been "fine-tuning" it for years, but under OS X it always has been more or less amphibian sh*t. It's buggy, crash prone and a resource hog.

On my Mac Pro under 10.6.1, Flash crashes and takes down Safari or Firefox constantly, unfortunately some sites insist on using it out of sheer laziness.

My Safari crashes ALWAYS. It's been a POS since the upgrade to SL.
Why?
I click on the shortcuts in the "Top Sites" screen, and I get a Kernal panic look for a few seconds on my MBP, and vertical lines on my iMac.

and whenever I save something, like a pic, it seems like if other resources are in use, Safari crashes.

I use Safari on my work PC lenovo, and no issues.
:(

i have still not upgraded t snow.L. just yet. all my browser crash constantly. no error message. the browser freezes, beachball spins. then the mouse arrow(beachball) freezes and in 10-15 second all comes back online as if nothing happened. very frustrating. afraid to upgrade in case it gets worse. but if its not working right now i might as well go 4 it

mine does this SAME thing and I AM running snow leopard. ridiculous. It mainly happens when I open a new tab. it shows the Top Sites thing, then the pinwheel spins for a bit, then it works. Really annoying.

Change the thread title because I have yet to see Safari crash, hang, lagg or beachball ONCE on either of my Macs. It hasn't happened once yet for me. And my MB is about 2 years old with a broken logic board. Somehow Safari hasn't crashed yet on it. I got this same result on Leopard, no crashes, hangs, laggs or beachballs ever. So statistically, more than half of you are lying.

Does Safari have a restore pervious session like FF has?

I had one crash since migrating to SL, and to my horror, Safari didn't save my tabs

lol at fanboys who are in complete denial that some people might actually have mac issues. i'm sure you've never been in outer space either. i guess statistically according to your moronic logic, everyone who has is lying.

Yes, your experiences are representative for half of the population, and the members of this forum are lying to you to dissuade you from using Safari as a part of a global Microsoft conspiracy.

I've had a handful of crashes in Safari in the short time i've been using it. Unfortunately, it looks like Firefox is not optimized for OS X at all, but I'll be switching back as soon as they update.

Safari just seems like a stripped browser compared to the features on Firefox.

i think a lot of these issues have to do with three things in combination:

1) Snow Leopard
2) Having the newest version of Gmail open
3) Running either Safari or Firefox

I rarely have any of the problems found on these threads but this is one I have been having and still have it. Gmail newest version causes hangs when visiting other sites that are heavy with flash. Whenever you see site hanging and you have Gmail open in another tab, just go to Gmail and click on "older version of Gmail" and the other hanging tab will open immediately. this happens everytime now. i keep all permissions updated and always run the latest updates of everything.

this is a real issue for me because i have Gmail open at all times. this happens in Safari and Firefox.

I heard that if you opted for don't' check the malicious site option on safari it will help but i haven't found that to be true.

Indeed

Same here, definitely something to do with Flash player.

It all started when I clicked 'close ad' on the Youtube homepage, each and every time I revisited the homepage it would crash.

Then some flash games will crash the browser.

When will Adobe stop neglecting OS X users; one with their shoddy CS and two with their flash player? Get to it!

safari crashing whenever attempting to upload attachment

I have the same problem when I attempt to upload attachments. It's repeatable and occurs when uploading documents to google docs and youtube. (flash related error).

I got my MBP used and it came with SL installed. At the beginning everything was fine and eventually I started to suffer these crashes everyone talks about.
It seemed like youtube's mainpage, myspace, sometimes Facebook and some other sites were making Safari (and Camino) crash (freeze..beachballing etc) .... well, i keep my MBP on at all times... so after a week of these crashes I decided to shut momma down.... restart and Voila!!!!! problem is gone!!! its been like a month since and I dont have any problems anymore. anyway, thats my experience....

I have resolved Flash player Crashes on Safari /Snow Leopard

I upgraded to Snow Leopard on my 2 year old Macbook from Leopard. Whenever flash player came up in Safari, flash player would not work and crash.

I read on a forum an Adobe tech said that one of my fonts in user/library/fonts was possibly causing the problem. I moved them to a folder on my desktop and "bingo" it is working fine.

I moved them back into thier original folder and still not a problem.

Hope this helps yall

Safari has not crashed once for me on Snow Leopard, and reading the other comments a lot of people's haven't, are you sure its not just you?

i found two culprits for safari crashing

My Safari was fine till these things:

1. Installed Flash CS3 which overwrote Flash 10.xx to Flash 9.00
Safari became very unstable at this point any small flash add locked up safari & crashed creating a error report for Apple.

to fix this issue i deleted Flashplugin.pkg & downloaded the latest flash auto un-installer application didn't fix the issue.

2.Javascript heavy pages where there are multiple servers to bring in data from. such as lockergnome.com can crash Safari

hope it helps :)

Thanks for that!

Using this info I tracked down all instances of Flash. I found quite a few inside an Adobe Air folder. Now that I think of it I've only loaded that recently so that may have been the cause.

Anyway deleted all instances of Flash and Air. Repaired Disk Permissions with Disk Utility and shut down. Power up and come back to post this.

Will update here with results - cheers!

i find if you switch from 64 bit to 32 bit it pinwheels much less. I had an awful time with Safari in Snow Leopard before I did that. Just Get Info and switch it in there.

I find Safari under SL very unstable.. frequently it will crash when running in the background ( with NO Flash running :) )

Safari under Leopard was completely the opposite for me - extremely stable.

Also I have a problem with Safari - frequently, when opening, Safari can take up to 10 or so minutes just to display the 'home' page... I don't think its a problem with that specific home page - because I've also changed it to Google - and same thing. Until the home page loads - Safari blocks any user interaction.

I upgraded to Snow Leopard about a week ago and have not experienced one crash or beach ball in Safari, or any other app for that matter. I kinda expected the worst after seeing so many of these Safari horror threads. I still use Glims and SafariStand without issue with Safari in the default 64-bit mode. Of course I probably avoided a lot of the problems by waiting until now to upgrade being as almost all of the software, plugins, etc. I use have been updated with SL compatibility. I actually have been avoiding SL like the plague for a long time after reading many of the bad experiences others have had with it, but I decided to finally take the plunge and am so glad I did. Runs like a dream and really is actually faster than Leopard on my MacBook.

Solutions

I will try to help.
Safari was being kind of laggy for me the other day, so here is what I did:
Go to ~/Library/Preferences/ and delete com.apple.Safari.plist .
Then open up Safari and go to Safari > Reset Safari... leave everything checked. Hit OK. Safari will freeze, glitch and sputter for a while. Quit and relaunch Safari, and everything will be fixed.
Happy Browsing!

I've always found Safari to be rather unstable and crash prone, it also has this tendency to "finish" downloads before they are actually done. Never had any problem with Chrome or even Firefox.

My Saf is a loada --it.

But, to be accurate, it came with the last OSX update!
It was great, then the last update: BOOM!

It crashes when too many windows are opened and too much flash or video is going. Or something. I've been working it out, but I know two things: lotsa windows, lotsa flashy-type stuff going.

The browser hits some kind of maximum work load and freezes for a minute, then everything blinks out. Restart Safari. Awful.

If I open only 3 or 4 windows, I can go forever it seems. If I open 8 or more, it's a matter of minutes and the whole thing blows. Kinda sucks when you own and manage 4 of your own sites, have FB, weather.com, youtube and amazon open; this combo is a sure-fire crash despite my sites being completely simple html and mere jpgs.
