SafariStand brings so many advantages, I don't see why people don't install it.

History Flow is especially cool:

Don't know why people don't like just showing the tab bar and simply double clicking on it for a new tab. I like it.

Sure, it will work. Just seems a bit flawed. Not as elegant of a solution as a simple button would be.

Besides, I don't like having a tab bar there when I'm not in a tabbed mode.

why is there no 'go' button ?

I personally don't need that as I can take off my hand from my mouse and quickly tap "return" but I will explore this, too, and see.

Edit: The "reload" or "refresh" button acts as a "Go" button! Type in your new URL and press refresh.

Agreed about SafariStand...I use it to add a New Tab button to my Bookmarks Bar. I just made it a "star" icon to keep it small.

Alright, the full set is now up.

Thanks!
I hope you find it useful.

My website is empty because I just installed ExpressionEngine and I'm still learning tons and tons about its template system.

Not for xCode 2.5?

Could someone verify they cannot edit Safari 3.1.1 toolbaritems.nib in xcode 2.5 interface builder on tiger?
I am able to change the bug icon to a "new tab" icon by replacing the tif files.
I edited tiger safari on leopard running xcode 3 and I was able to set first responder to newTab and change the names and such. But, Replace Safari with my hijacked one back onto Tiger and I have the Icon changed but Report bug dialog remains and still opens the report bug menu when clicked.
In Safari Leopard, I have been able to get the report bug button to change to opening a new tab but the icon will not change from the bug after replacing the tif with my modified one by keeping the bug name of the tif.
I can't figure out how to change the link of the bug button icon to my choosing but the button works...
So, on tiger Safari I have a new tab icon but it opens bug report, viewing it in xcode 3 the newTab links look correct.
On Leopard I have a bug button that opens a new tab but editing the bug tif does not change the bug icon.
I know this sounds confusing and I hope I'm explaining the issues correctly.

WTF?

"mouse-only" SOLUTION: No add-ons needed...

Ok people:

1) Want a "new tab button"? With Safari (3.2 tested) you don't need it: just double click anywhere in the empty space on the tab strip. Bam! New tab.

2) When someone posts asking for a tip/trick/add-on, be nice. Don't berate them for not wanting to use the keyboard. Some browsing sessions are "one hand only".

3) Hello Apple: It is totally reasonable to have "new tab" and "new window" buttons optionally available in the "Customize Toolbar" window. The butons can be there for those (like myself), that want them to be there. This is not feature creep or app. cluttering. It's just a button. Give it to us! :)

End.

I used to hate when you click a link and then it opens another window instead of another tab.

Well, I'm not sure if someone has mentioned this, but I downloaded Onyx and there is a checkbox labeled "Enable Single Window Mode" under the safari tab. Now when I click a link it opens in a new tab.

If you have a Mighty Mouse and the scroll ball is set to "Button 3" in the Keyboard and Mouse preferences you can click the scroll ball on a link and it will automatically open the link in a new tab. Works great!!

That works great!

You can't create a new tab by clicking in the tab space until you have a second tab open already because there is no blank tab space until you command+T at least once, (whew, breath)...
I made this...

:)

Forgive me, but why not just have Safari set to always show the Tab bar, thereby always affording you the ability to double-click in the empty tab space?

I was just updating itunes / syncing my iphone, and they had safari in there so i figured i'd give it a try. Where's the new tab button, i wondered? That's what brought me here, where I found out that for some reason I'm not allowed to have a new tab button and use safari at the same time. What the hell apple? Why must you make outstanding products with terrible, ridiculous, easily repairable flaws? For example: Original iphone's headphone jack. Giving iphone 3g gps but withholding adequate software for it. Charging way too much for every macintosh, ever. NO NEW TAB BUTTON ON YOUR BROWSER.

Anyway i'm sure i'm either preaching to the choir or bitching to a bunch of people who won't listen but I just had to say these things. I will be promptly uninstalling safari and disregarding it until they throw in a new tab button. For me this is a non-negotiable requirement. I say good day to you.

Suit yourself.

If you calm down and actually read the posts in this thread, you'll see there are several methods of creating new tabs, including adding a "new tab" button. You can add a new tab button using SafariStand or other methods, or you can double-click on the tab bar. If you're too impatient to read and learn, then it's probably good that you won't be using Safari.

His first and only post in the forums and he's whining about something so ridiculously trivial!

Suit yourself.

What's the issue , is any one out there actually still using an Apple Pro or earlier one button mouse?

Just hover over link right click and CHOOSE open Link in NEW TAB.
No buttons needed in menu/task bars of browser and no need to drag mouse half way across screen and expend all that energy!
Works like a charm every time.
Want the link a new window just click on it!

Alternatively click and hold link and drag up to the Tab bar also works!

Okay, here I am to revive this now almost-defunct argument.

I'm using Safari 4, which is great, now that it has its own "new tab" button in the upper-right corner. But let me tell you something: It is not good enough. I put most of my important bookmarks on the left side of the bookmarks bar -- this is a long way from the upper-right corner! Often I will see my RSS feeds have been updated, for example, and so I'll quickly "new tab" button, click RSS feed, "new tab" again, RSS again... and repeat.

Well, as Safari 3 has passed away, the "new tab" button hacks are destroyed. And I'd like a way to make the "bookmark" button in Safari 4 a "new tab" button. Problem is that any information on how to do it is still related to Safari 3 and will no longer work (I've tried.)

Does anyone else have any ideas? Or am I the only one who does things this way?!

SafariStand enables you to add a new tab button:

Of course, Command-T adds a new tab just as easily.
