I've had to turn off the back-swipe for now. Otherwise, my habit of swiping just keeps locking things up.

Interestingly, the swipe gesture was turned off when I first started Maverick up. Wonder if there's a connection.

Having this problem too. Sometimes everything works as normal, then sometimes gestures stop working. Not just swipe back, but also pinching in and out to zoom.

using neither one, and the problem persists. hoping 10.9.1 brings an end to the pain... :(

Starting from today morning, i stopped to use multi finger gestures in magicprefs (currently active: middle click, 3 finger click, apple logo touch), and since last reboot, my system works fine.

I thought that everything was working fine - until today. It is really irritating isn't it?

Had to turn off the features of the magic mouse just to stop me from doing the normal swipes.

someone posted that resetting safari fixes this, but...for me, not. (and ugh, now have to re-enter all my logins..)

it's a bug that apparently APPLE needs to fix. so...

waiting for 10.9.1.... :(

I had the exact same problem after about the first two hours of using Mavericks, after my first restart after installing Mavericks it's been working perfectly for 6 days.

Restart your Mac!

Same problem in Preview

Just started having this same issue today. Been running Mavericks for the past 3 weeks without issue. I'm not running MagicPrefs or BetterSnapTool.

What's more interesting, however, is that I'm having trackpad issues with Preview as well. Pinch-to-zoom doesn't work on any images or PDFs.

Gets me thinking this is more of a system-wide trackpad issue than something isolated to Safari.

same here on 2012 air

Happens to me one my 2012 air. Locks up just the single tab. I do not have the issue on my Mac Pro. Had to disable it for now so I would quit hanging it up.

I just experienced this problem for the first time. iMac 27 in 2010. Could not page backward by using the 2 finger swipe on trackpad. Finally just logged out of my user account and the logged back in and it seems to have fixed it.

Try power cycle your Magic Mouse. Turn it off and turn it on.

It apparently looks like Magic Mouse itself needs to reboot.

When back swipe doesn't work, it's LIKELY that two fingers swipe will not function either. Power cycle is the only way.
