Just to add to the "It's AdBlocker!" portion of this thread...

Saw Safari (10.6.6) go all the way up to 1.83GB of Active Memory used today. It's definitely a hog.

Wow! I've never seen anyone post Safari using that much. I've seen mine at most around 550MB. What is your total RAM capacity?

Before I got rid of my Aluminum MacBook, I was having quite a few problems with Safari using up all the memory. With 2GB of system memory, it would use up nearly 1GB of the course of a few hours and I had to exit and reload it for the system to become responsive or the whole computer would slow down.

Are you talking about adblocker as a plug-in, or the adblock as extension? I was trying to figure out why my safari ate over 1G memory. It starts to annoy me really. But I don't want to switch for the speed and nice layout.

yesterday Safari got up to 2.1GB on my 2011 MPB. Right now its hovering at 1.7GB. Its in 64-bit mode and i have the AdBlock extension. Kinda upsetting as i've been switching between browsers for the past few weeks and have finally settled on Safari.

just tested Safari with the extensions disabled. One of them is definitely causing the issue. I have 43 tabs open and memory usage barely goes over 5-600mb whereas while extensions are enabled, less than 10 tabs open and i'm almost at 1.5GB

I'm having the same issue with Firefox as well and i have a handful of plugins that i use on both browsers (But also on Chrome but its memory usage is fine).

I'll continue to investigate.
