Fingers crossed the replacement will be OK. It's definitely a manufacturing issue as all the chips are on exactly the same edge (rest of phone is perfect). And as the edge in question is the front flat edge adjacent to the screen, there's no way anything can knock it as it hasn't left my house or even been in my pocket..
