my 16GB new bootrom 3GS (tethered boot) on 3.1.2, didnt like itunes 9.1, when i went to restart it, blackra1n crashed. Thanks to iclarified here i download blackbreeze which fixed my blackra1n and i was able to do the tethered boot with 9.1 installed

Just for the threads information... From MN's twitter Blackra1n is the only thing effected.

That doesn't mean it will break your jailbreak. If you have a tethered jailbreak with Blackra1n you can still boot your phone with redsn0w. You just do it the same way.

From what I am reading, blackra1n was coded to link to a specific part of a .dll which has been updated in this version of iTunes. The result is that blackra1n does not find the instructions it is looking for. Geohot is notorious for the hackiness of his code; he takes shortcuts which simplify his task but make his apps less robust. You'll notice that Redsn0w wasn't broken by this change.

Well... he is a hacker. ;) It's good to have people on both sides like GeoHotz and the DevTeam. GeoHotz comes up with something quick, easy and dirty and then we wait longer for the DevTeam to release a long lasting solution. :)

Just wondering, I used to have issues connecting my old phone to iTunes after updating, so I started completely uninstalling iTunes and all its components. Quicktime, mobile device support, everything. After that I reinstall, etc and it connects just fine. Could have just been a user issue, or it was just being finicky with a jailbroken phone.

Does anyone else update this way? Or do you just update through iTunes?

I just install the new versions over top of older versions, never had any problems.

That's the zinger! Lol. I'll just keep hoping for a new job soon so I can afford my MBP

Actually, I have a little Lenovo netbook that I keep iTunes installed on to use for vacations.

I just install new iTunes over top of older versions. Windoze uninstalls the older versions, then installs the newer versions. No issues there either.

no worries here (& no April foolishness)

3G 3.1.3 7E18 pwnage JB, iTunes 9.1 (79) everything OK after backup & sync
