i got the stm evolution backpack and an incase sleeve. the backpack is amazing and has plenty of room for preipherals, it has a rain cover, and the added security of the incase sleeve makes it amazing. it is also super comfortable. it is available at the apple store for 99 bucks or 79 with educational discount. and it will fit up to 15 inch, so you're set

Do you have the medium or small sized one? I have a 13" macbook in case like you, I'd like the smaller version but I don't know if it will fit the macbook with the case on.

i have the medium, and with the incase sleeve (which is awesome and i would recommend), it makes my macbook a little bigger and it fits well. but if you dont want the incase sleeve and you are just going to put the laptop directly in the bag, then i would go with the small one because i would be flopping around loosely in the medium size bag.

Ok great, do you think the macbook with the incase sleeve will fit in the small bag?

i'm not sure. i didnt even know there was a smaller one than the 15 inch (medium) until after i bought it. if you go to the apple store you might be able to see if the employee will let you put your laptop in a sleeve and then in a bag to let you see how it fits. they are usually pretty nice, and the apple store carries the bag and the sleeve. i would for sure go with the stm bag, because besides all the pockets and places to put stuff, it looks good and it has an attached rain cover that tucks in at the bottom and u dont notice it when ur not using it. i have had to use it three times, since getting the backpack a week ago and it works great.

Cool I'll give it a go.
Also gonna check out Crumpler and Incase's backpack the rip stop.
STM looks like a great option though - only thing that i hesitate over is the abundance of straps.

idk, i mean going into college i like the idea of straps because then when im riding a bike around campus, which i anticipate doing a lot, it wont bounce around as much. and the nice thing about it, is when ur not using the straps they tuck in so they dont look goofy or stick out everywhere. trust me its nice

I own the North Face Surge backpack. It is quite nice with its own laptop compartment right against your back. It has a cushion on all sides of the computer. That compartment sleve doesn't hit the bottom of the backpack, so you don't have to be as careful putting your laptop in its place and worry that it might smack against the ground. It has 2 other main compartments and 2 smaller compartments for pencils, etc. Its treated me well so far. It even has a place for your MP3 player which will string out a watertight hole to the outside.

If you need any pics of the backpack or anything (the North Face site isnt very revealing), msg me.
