Yeah and the guy sitting next to me in class has a Samsung Galaxy S4 and the guy in front of him has a Nokia Lumia this can only mean bad news for Apple.

The guy in front of me had a note III which meant I could not see anyone else nor the professor. But his porn was big.

Well to tell you the truth, why would anyone need to buy any of the new Apple phones? You know? The iPhone 5 everyone already has.

Apple's sales have been decreasing year over year because the market is so oversaturated.

Neither the S or C is breaking any sales records.

Only Apple knows their exact sales, but there's a very high likelihood that the per unit profit is higher than ever since they recycled the same old design. It's a brilliant move. The result is massive profits on fewer units sold. If volume is up then profits skyrocket even higherhigher. Apple knows how to play the game better than the rest.

Based on the BOM that published by analyst the 5S has higher margin.

But if calculating the machine wear and tear polishing alumunium vs plastic, hour used to produced, change over time, etc. I believe 5C is more profitable.

The 9 million is channel sales I believe and since apple make contract and telco may need to pay upfront, it valids to count it as sales.

Early adopters also usually want to take the flagship (5S), especially when the price gap is very minimum.

What will be interesting is how the 5C will perform in next quarter.

Note: In Singapore people sell it at lost for 5c (some even sell at $720 vs $848 RRP) to get back their cash.

On the other hand 5S is selling like crazy and people even pay premium 100-400 above the RRP (depends on color and size)

What's the pricing differential between the 5C & 5S in China?

What percentage of the population can afford an iPhone?

There is no shortage of cash in China for sure among any of the people capable of purchasing smartphones. I think Apple and Samsung are the two best sellers in China. The Chinese like new things and I believe that they did not see much new here.

No offense to anyone or Chinese here but Chinese do not have the best vision when it comes to reading small things (many require glasses or contact lenses) which is one of the reasons they favor the smartphones with the bigger screens for reading or playing games.

Many in China now a days have two smartphones. One being the iPhone for status and one being a Samsung with the larger screen. I believe that there is a market for both smartphone manufacturers. I can see the 5C doing well in Thailand,Indonesia,India,Cambodia,etc.. But not in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan,Hong Kong or China.

The price difference between the two is minor but many of the Chinese find the 5C expensive compared to other smartphones available in their own local market which offer better specs. And features.

The S can't really break any records while it remains in short supply. Too many C's I think because it looks more plastic than anticipated and the price point is too high: it's last year's phone in a cheaper casing, so debatably the 5 would sell better if still sold for the same price as the C. Rather than those on a budget, I think the C is mainly selling to the colourful as Apple markets it.

it's last year's phone in a cheaper casing

From a UK perspective (and many other countries) this is not true.

The 5 was incompatible with the majority of networks for LTE and that's why its disappearing from sale so quickly and completely.

Wasn't aware of that, thanks. Bit of an iPad 3 situation then.

Nokia is a European company.

which one will you buy, granting you live in US ?

As a long time apple user (Mac Books, Ipod's, Iphones) I must say I agree with some of the statements here about innovating. The TIC TOCK cycle that some have described (5 ---> 5S) is all and good for the company but as a consumer I want something that is significantly better every year (instead of every 2 years)..I know the 5s will be quite a bit better than the 5 in many areas (speed, Touch ID, Camera etc) however i am still not very satisfied with the incremental approach to things..If this would have been offered with a 30% bigger screen it would have been just perfect..Some design changes? Even better...Higher resolution screen would have really done wonders..I know most of this would come next year, however I think the competition would realize this and push much greater upgrades every year for their product.

Its tough to come out with a NEW phone every year, however the rewards would also be significant in a time when the sheer number of android devises will put a lot of pressure on future smartphone/iphone sales. I se many Entry Level_ANDROID users being locked into android and choosing the GS5 or a comparable device from HTC,LG etc....I fully expect Samsung to radically change the GS5 compared to the S4 and they'll do it next year. Of course they need to do this in order to catch up to apple's sales, however one can argue that apple still needs to do the same in order to maintain its lead and keep its customers happy.

I for one am never happy with the stus quo and the 2 year cycle is a bit too long for my taste :), in fact this is what APPLE fans used to boast about comparing their mac books to PC's etc...We used to very demanding customers, but it seems that since apple has grown we are more concerned with its bottom line/phone sales than our demand for greatest possible innovation;

Some bad news for Apple lovers I was walking around here in Hong Kong and many shops have plenty of stock of the new iPhone 5C smartphones but I have not seen anyone actually buying one I have seen people buying Sony Ericsson's new Smartphones and Samsung's new Smartphones. No stock of the iPhone 5S at the retail shops for individual sales though they did have stock to purchase with contract and I saw very few people buying the new iPhone 5S.

This is Hong Kong and this is the Golden Holiday week for the Chinese which means this is bad news for Apple

I'm sure Apple will be giving you a call any minute as you have your finger on the pulse of the iPhone market. Oh wait, they won't be calling, they are too busy counting their billions they made from the 9million units sold the first weekend.

Divide 9 by 2 and what do you get? 4 and some change? I can see how dividing one product offering into two could have the effect that you seem to have sold more.
Well many have already commented on this one so I won't embarrass you further.

......since they recycled the same old design.
Do you people that obviously live with your head in the sand ever get tired of saying this BS boring line? the 5s is the biggest jump in tech from one model to the next.... but yeah... same tired design.

Apple is a US company.

Apple is a multinational company. Apple iPhones contain Samsung components (among other vendors) and are assembled in China.

Samsung is a Korean company.

Samsung is a multinational company, with chip fab plants in the U.S. (some of which go into iPhones and Nokias as well). Samsung phones are assembled in China, Vietnam and Korea.

Nokia is a European company.

Nokia is being purchased by Microsoft and is a multinational company. Nokia phones are assembled in... you guessed it... China.

which one will you buy, granting you live in US ?

Considering most of the internals fror all of these phones have parts made in multiple countries, and end up being assembled in China, I would pick the one that offers me the best usability for my tastes, and worry less about waving my country's flag around and factoring politics and patriotism into my phone buying decision.

They never mentioned how many of those were the 5C.:p

I'm not to shocked to hear that. It's not much of a surprise because here in Canberra the iPhone 5c all colours are in stock. Most consumers already had the iPhone 5 lady year there wouldn't find it necessary to get the 5c. When I hear about the 5c in the begging of the keynote I was appalled. Maybe if I didn't have a 5 then I would if felt a bit different.

The 5C I bought as a gift was finally activated today.

I have not seen a 5C in the wild yet. But it might be hard to tell, since many people use cases anyway.

I think that this will be a situation for awhile. Need for bandwidth has long passed the old quad band support.

My iPhone 5 doesn't fully support TMobile bands in the US, for example, or I would have attempted to unlock it and give it as a gift to my sister as her first smartphone this year, and bought the 5S for myself. Phone in perfect shape, having been in case all year.

Of course not because the sales numbers for the 5c probably aren't where they want them to be. However that matters not as the billions roll in.... 5s, 5s, 5, 4s, all money in the bank. I figure they can float the 5c until Xmas when they will start flying off the shelves at a fat discounted price. Either way, Apple still makes their billions.
