Sound more to me like he got his commission and brownie points with the manager handed over on a silver platter by a customer that failed to do his homework: quite different from thievery. I challenge you to find a brick and mortar computer retailer that doesn't have pushy and deceptive salespeople.

www.apple.com/retail There you go, challenge accepted and met!

The Best buy employees that tick me off are the ones who don't know what you ask them but they refuse to admit the fact. I did buy a Macbook Pro from them and the service was amazing. I did get the protection plan and my battery died in 7 months. I used to get five hours then I got 1 and Snow Leopard said battery needed service too. So overall I'm a happy customer when it comes to their protection plans.

Hate to tell you this but your battery would have been covered under Apple's standard 1-year warranty.

Have you ever actually bought something from one of their stores? Let's see, last time I bought a computer they tried to get me to add on:

.mac
Pro Care
Apple Care
One to One
iWork
Office
an iPod
extra batteries
mouse
USB modem
cinema display

None of which I needed. Still every time I go into one of their stores they're doing the same thing.

So you were mad that the Denny's stopped letting people bring guns to a place where you bring your kids? I am at a loss for words. Why should anyone have to bring a gun to Denny's?

In general, why do you want people to be allowed to bring guns to places they are drinking? That is just asking for **** to get ****ed. For someone with children, you have some priority issues it seems.

I, along with many other people here would love to answer your questions in a thread in the PRSI section of this site. Maybe you could start one there or re-ask in an already existing thread?

I never had an experience like this at an Apple Store at all. They tell me about stuff, but I say no thanks and that's it. The one I go too is great and great people.

Apparently it does. I say this because they STOPPED pushing them at the counter. I doubt this was a result of just me, though they heard it a lot from me as I'm a business customer and spend a lot of cash per year there. It's a bunch of people like me that get things changed. Perhaps they just decided to stop pushing it? We'll never know. I do know they haven't discontinued their magazine sales as they still have them listed at the counter and you can sign up through the credit card reader/signer device at the register.

A bit off topic, but similar. We have lax gun laws here in AZ. A law was passed that allowed you to carry a firearm in a restaurant that served alcohol UNLESS a sign was posted at the front entrance and by the liquor license. I frequently go into a Red Robin by my office and sit at the bar with my business partner for lunch. After going there for a few months at least once or twice a week they put up the sign stating no firearms. The sign was right there across from me, mocking me as I sat and ate lunch. :p I told the manager that although I do not carry a firearm in public, I believe it's our right to be able to if we chose so.... particularly concealed where it's not going to make anyone nervous. I didn't go there for a few weeks. The next time I went back the sign was gone.

The same thing happened at the Denny's by my house. I take my kids there every couple of weeks and they started posting the sign there (even though they didn't even serve alcohol). I told the manager the same thing and I started going to another Denny's further from the house. Well a couple of months went by and I went there a couple weeks back because I didn't have time to go to the further one and sure enough, they too took the sign down.

Could all of this be a coincidence? There's a good chance. But it sure can't hurt. BTW, in my original post I mentioned making a "scene". That was probably a bit carried away... but it was a firm remark pointing out that I do have options when it comes to where I spend $$$. These business owners have every right to run their business within the boundaries of the law. As such, they have every right to post "no guns" signs... Just like them though I and others like me have the right to take our business elsewhere.

If I was a business owner in AZ, I would hope that you would take your business elsewhere. I wouldn't want ANY customer guns in my establishment.

I'm more shocked that he lets his children eat at Denny's.

You realize I don't need my questions answered right? They were rhetorical. The answer is that no one needs to have a gun in a Denny's and especially at a place where they are drinking.

You can argue the right to bear arms and to protect yourself, but that is just a cover for wanting to carry a gun. You would say you should carry a gun because others can and this would just be skirting around the point. If no one could bring a gun in to a bar, or any public establishment, it would be a better system.

LOL, Wow this thread has grown allot in the past day or so. You guys still arguing over this?

I love it when people try to say I'm ignorant for putting down PC's. I owned and used PC's for 15+ years and I am talking out of experience. I bought a gaming PC laptop last year and it died on me 3 months after.

So I returned it and bought another Apple product simply because Vista + Asus gaming laptop were not reliable. So how am I ignorant for stating the facts.

Not buying an Apple computer back in 2002 was ignorant on my part. I went through two PC's and viruses that crashed and raped my system constantly.

At least with Apple computers I don't experience such non sense anymore and its nice to spend my time using a computer rather than fixing it.

No problems here with Windows XP, Vista, or 7.

There's a reason I still use 10.5.8 and Tiger was still better. :p

Well, people shouldnt even buy Apple stuff at Best Buy, at least in Canada, because

1) Prices are slightly higher than Apple Store

2) Whenever there's a refresh, they keep selling the old stuff for at least 1-2 months before the newer line appears.

he's doing his job

the sales guy at bestbuy is only doing his job. the "computer set up" is a rip off, but the warranty isn't THAT bad of an idea. remember, APPLECARE is also a warranty. he wasn't LYING to the customer perse. he was exaggerating a bit tho. batteries DO tend to go bad in about 2 years. the battery will still work, but not WELL and far from it's original capacity. if that guy doesn't charge his battery correctly, it WILL degrade faster.

Im not sure about you guys but I own two macbooks, both 3 years old. Ive already replaced the battery in the one as it completely died (invalid battery in icon on status bar) and the other gives me about 30min till its completely dead.

5 years on the same original battery seems not plausible.

I worked at Best Buy for about 2 years. I felt like a whore every single time I sold that crap, but we have to.

To be honest, I usually tried to steer people in the direction of the Apple stuff, but I was never too pushy about it. I'd show them the ease of use, stuff like that. I've dropped many a jaw when I told them that the iMac is "the whole computer". Hell I even offered to come to their home and teach them how to use it, something I could have been fired for.

When selling the Apple stuff, I never sold the 'performance service plans' because they're ridiculously more expensive than AppleCare. I used to send them to a nice local retailer for that.

1. You only got viruses because you were dumb. If you have an anti-virus program and don't open every stupid link you see, you don't need to fear viruses.
2. So you had one PC product die after 3 months. My best friend went through 4 Macbook Pro's in 1.5 years due to defects. Guess no one should ever buy a Mac anymore and I should make all of my assumptions off of my friend's experiences.

I don't mean to put down Macs in any way here, I just think you are being blatantly ignorant to PCs and basically putting them down because you don't seem to know much about them, or claim it because you want to be more well-liked by the Mac groupies and fanboys on this site, thinking they will like you more if every post is spattered with "DIE WINDOWS DIE".

I've used PCs since they were invented, and hated every minute of it. Wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy.

I've heard them outright lie about the Macs. "We get most of them back because they are so 'complicated'" "Most people don't like them" "We don't sell many of them. Usually only to Apple fans and they'll buy anything with the logo on it"

Yeah, I've heard some outrageous crap from the local Worst Try. Sometimes I try to counter the lies, one time almost getting into an argument with the sales person. One time, a Best Buy 'genius' told a customer that the iMac can't run Windows at all. That it can't boot windows and there was no way to get the two operating systems to work together. He then insisted that Microsoft Office documents wouldn't open on a Mac. I walked over and grabbed the Fusion box and the Microsoft Office boxes and showed them to the sales person and the customer. I told them that I use both and have never had a problem and still the salesperson tried to argue the incompatibility of the Mac. I just said that he didn't know what he was talking about and walked away. The poor customer looked like a total noob and just stood there... The salesperson said that htey 'were trained by Apple'. What 'Apple'? A fruit salad? Later the manager of the store came by and asked if I 'needed any help'. I laughed and said heck no...

I have been wondering how Apple can justify having the kiosks in the Best Buy stores. It rings like the time that Apple sold through Circuit City stores. There were salespeople that knew less than nothing about the product and would try anything to not have to learn about them...

You can become infected just by visiting a website with Windows. The Mac has the benefit of not being as vulnerable as Windows is but there are vulnerabilities in the Mac OS.

I use both and recognize that there are good and bad points for each. I prefer the Macs but use both as the tools that they are. I also gave up problems with compatibility by having built my own PC systems for the past 15 or so years. Sure, I've had some issues but not like some of the people I hear about buying name brand systems.

That being said, there is a benefit of buying Apple computer products: They have tight control over the OS and the hardware. At least it's going to work when it's supposed to (generally) rather than having to experience the multitude of issues that some Windows users face of having driver incompatibilities and obscure hardware. Heck, when I tried to install Vista on my not so old notebook the sound system and the NIC weren't supported. I've never heard of someone installing an update of a Mac OS having that kind of issue... Anyway....

Wow some people just LOVE drama. I used PC's as long as you did and never had issues. Never had viruses or any of these other 'major' issues people claim are rampant. I am only using a Mac now because I wanted to try something new.

What about Amazon? aren't they competitive enough?

Amazon doesn't sell Macs in Canada.

I had a really good Best Buy experience yesterday. I bought a new wireless-n dual-band router that was on sale. The guys in the computer department were very helpful and were not pushy ar all. I even had a 10% off a regular priced item, and they let me use it on the sale item.
