Do people really still think Samsung makes good phones, after the fold i can’t trust them
After one brand new technology you can't trust them? And you could when they had to recall the whole line of notes for blowing up years before? okkkk.
At least they are trying to innovate. Thats how new products come about. The fold did quite well for a first time technology that is shipping imo. It pushes technology as we need it as the last 5 years everything is just small updates and boring. Dont hate on one attempt at a new product. But the blowing up of phones yea, that should bother you.

I find it hard to believe this story. I’d love to see it being replicated and shown that it exists by known, reputable and independent testers.
I find it easy to believe. Known, reputable and independent testers are not needed.

FTA:

Responding to the incident, Samsung said it was "aware of the case of S10's malfunctioning fingerprint recognition and will soon issue a software patch."

Can't wait for this thread to become yet another echo chamber full with people who prefer Touch ID to Face ID because having to put your finger in a certain place on the phone is somehow more convenient than having to do nothing.
What a ridiculous post. Is it beyond the bounds of possibility that some might just prefer it?
Maybe all I want to see is the time without the device unlocking, that a problem for you too?

Many Samsung fans slate Apple for coming to the party late with the latest tech as soon as its available. And this is why they wait. They make sure it works properly before they include it in there hardware. And thus so they avoid the embarrassment when they have to admit there is a issue. Just like Samsung did with the Galaxy Fold (which was rushed to be first) which they also f***ed up.

If this was Apple, it would be silence for a year, denial for another and then a “free“ update.

Trying to innovate is fine, but keep it in the lab if it’s not ready. Rushing it out the door just to be first made Samsung look foolish, and exposed their inferiority complex again.

For the record, my persistence disdain with FaceID is that I do motorcycle touring to the tune of 12K+ miles a year and had to go back to a 4-digit passcode because while my gloves work with TouchID & the touch screen, my helmet does not work with FaceID so when I need to do anything I used to be able to unlock but now I have to stop and remove my helmet or type in a passcode. this has been going on with me for 3 years and I hate it every time.

Why did you buy a phone relying on FaceId if your requirements included easily unlocking your phone while wearing a full face helmet? Your best solution now is to use an easy 4-digit passcode.

What are you typically doing on your phone when using it while still wearing your helmet? It gets hot in full face helmets, I never left mine on longer than necessary. Maybe just take it off? You’d similarly have to take off your gloves to pull your phone out of your pocket and use it.

Samsung just managed to produce a phone where the rate of battery failures was high enough that they 'had to' completely withdraw the product. iPhones never had such a high battery failure rate (percentage of phones affected within one month of purchase or mean time to failure).

hmm...didn’t Apple say they had replaced nearly 3M iPhone 6 batteries? Of course they are not called failures because Apple called it a support gesture for the benefit of their customers

Lol... Because Apple's Face ID was not a fiasco also. Days when iPhone were not a glitch show are long gone. And people still pqy 1K for them

Do not get a screen protector till the patch or use a different unlock option.

Samsung actually said not to use unapproved screen protectors at the time of launch

That's Samsung's logo on that device, they don't get to pass blame.
Given that there is a software fix it’s all Samsung. Even when there it’s a hardware problem without a software fix it’s the fault of the company with their logo on the phone. Oh! That’s Samsung too!

You have to go through great lengths to unlock a Face ID device as you've mentioned. As for the S10, anyone can carry around the gel in their pocket and unlock any S10 they see. Any security authentication can be compromised but there are different levels at which it can, and the S10 falls in the bottom now.

Wasn't everybody on here laughing about how many failures to unlock there were with the in-screen fingerprint scanner? Now suddenly one woman unlocked someone elses phone and suddenly "anyone can carry around the gel in their pocket and unlock any S10 they see". Everybody has a gel screen protector on their s10, and it doesn't even work with their fingerprint all the time.

What a joke lol

Also, touchID is better than faceID. I hate having to pick up my phone or lean over it to use it when it's on a table, or not being able to unlock it while i'm drinking, or have something else in front of my face. It's not bad, but i just preferred touchID.

A major flaw in Samsung's Galaxy S10 smartphone has been discovered that basically means any fingerprint can unlock the device with the help of a cheap screen protector.

samsung-galaxy-s10-lineup-2019.jpg

According to the BBC, a British woman discovered the authentication flaw after she applied a cheap gel screen protector bought off eBay to her Galaxy S10.

She soon discovered that she was able to authenticate as the owner by pressing her left thumbprint against the phone's onscreen fingerprint sensor - the problem being that she hadn't registered her thumb with the device's biometric authenticaton system.

Her suspicions were confirmed when her husband was also able to unlock the phone by pressing either one of his thumbs on the screen's built-in sensor. The screen protector was then applied to another relative's Galaxy S10 and the same thing occurred.

Responding to the incident, Samsung said it was "aware of the case of S10's malfunctioning fingerprint recognition and will soon issue a software patch."

Previous reports have suggested that certain screen protectors are "incompatible" with Samsung's fingerprint sensor because they leave a small air gap that can interfere with the scanning. The sensor relies on ultrasound to detect the microscopic ridges that make every fingerprint unique.

The Galaxy S10 is the latest in Samsung's flagship S series, which is usually regarded as the iPhone's annual rival. The Korean company launched the phone in March and referred to its under-screen fingerprint authentication system as "revolutionary."

(Thanks, Chris!)

Samsung has confirmed it (they are now writing a bug fix). What other proof is needed?

How do you use Touch ID with gloves?
