Yes. It's getting quite tiresome. I rather avoid such news, as I would start "getting involved", even when such happenings aren't really in my "sphere of influence".

"Tech" sites are obviously doing this for the hits.

I'm getting to the point of saying "**** it" and just get my "news" from Apple's RSS feed and manually hitting the "Software Update" buttons daily to check for updates.

God damn it, nowadays every damn "tech" site is turning into a "tech and patent warfare" site.

It is easy just don't by Samsung. Just because Apple has been able to show the world how great products will sell at high prices the rest who cannot, give them a hard time. Samsung are losing big time in the courts. I for one will never buy Samsung branded products again

I am a little more surprised that we have failed to mention one of the (I think) biggest reasons Samsung has decided to do this if in fact it is true. Apple has dropped them as their chip maker, and are going with TSMC. I think this is a big "**** you" to Apple from Samsung. I think it will just settle out of court, but you know Apple could just buy Samsung. :) and make them kaput.

Nah, I don't think Apple would buy Samsung, why would they buy a company who's copying them? lol

Samsung is personally hurt. They wouldn't let Apple buy them out.

Batman quote - "Some men just want to watch the world burn"

Is Apple ballsy enough to try for a hostile takeover?

Acquire their phones, put them off the market and bring their chip manufacturing, and screen manufacturing in house. Samsung makes some GOOD products, Apple could just Ameoba them, and take the best of them and leave the gizzards behind.

I don't understand

First the article says

For as long as Apple does not drop mobile telecommunications functions, it would be impossible for it to sell its i-branded products without using our patents.

Then it says:

Samsung is unable to make any preemptive strikes against the iPhone 5 because Apple has yet to reveal any details on the device, meaning that Samsung has no product against which to lodge infringement claims at this time.

What about the current iPhone 4 ? Or all the previous ones? Apparently Samsung neglected for years to sue Apple for this patent infringement... What rights do they still have after such a long time?

Is Apple ballsy enough to try for a hostile takeover?

That will never work out.

Samsung is SKorea's "pride and joy" - despite how they got to where they are; they aren't the nicest company, quite a few "bully victims" even within SK itself.
The SK government, which Samsung has very close ties to, will never let the takeover succeed.

Then, Now, Soon

nice and short for you. Sleep on it

Ah, well, you areonly talking nonsense and you don't have any argument. So, time to stop wasting time with you because you can't argue with any argument

How can Apple buy Samsung? Samsung is too big to be bought by Apple

I don't understand it either. I am an artist and when people try to steal my artwork to make cash from it I come down hard on them. Another thing I find very humorous is the fact that everyone was laughing at Apple when they released the iPad saying it was just a big tampon / toy and overpriced crap. Now everyone copies it. How many tablets like the iPad was there before Apple released it's iPad. Zero lol.

Good point there.
When I was in college back in 2009, when Apple STILL didn't have the iPad, my fellow classmate bought his "tablet PC" to class (It was an IBM or something)
I thought that thing was bulky and not very user friendly.

When iPad came out, I read this forum, and most of them weren't even interested in getting one!!!
I wish I can quote all of them, but I remember most were saying "It WONT sell, it's just a HUGE ipod touch"............

That proved everyone wrong.
I have an iPhone, but I bring my iPad to me almost everywhere, from dating to hanging around with friends.......
This little device is my substitute to my Macbook Pro I used to carry around in college...

Hell, if I were back to college, I would leave my MBP in my room/dorm and just take my iPad with me.......

The same rights they always had. Patents don't "weaken" if you don't defend them.

But chances are all this is just hot air.
This isn't the first time Samsung thump their chest and yell threats at Apple - all which have mounted to nothing as they get owned left and right in courts all over the world.

There also needs to be an "Apple opens yet another sterile, IKEA-furnished store" section for the very same reason. It's about as exciting as news about another McDonald's or Starbucks opening.

That being said, Apple should put on some warm clothes now (to use a German saying), they're about to taste a lot of their own medicine.

Chances are, they are already prepared. They aren't stupid.

When you get big you attract lawsuits - from patent trolls and competitors alike.
Lawsuits are part of the "game" and I'm sure Apple recognizes this.

Their legal team is probably combing patents 24/7 and keeping a close eye on every single player in the industry.

True. Honestly, they should just merge the iOS blog and Mac blog into the Front Page, and create the Patent and Apple Store Openings pages and be done with it. Then we can finally get news that interests us! Mac news and iOS news seem to be tossed between the three tabs at random as it is.

One less mouth to feed

I think Samsung are trying to piss Apple off so much that Apple are eventually forced to buy Samsungs phone and tablet division.

Not so sure that their will be any medicine left after Samsung guzzles it all:

Seriously, Samsung got caught copying Apple. This vague Samsung threat against Apple is just face saving.

This isn't any more wicked than Apple suing for rounded corners or the Tab being banned just because the photo gallery app allowed full screen pictures and horizontal scrolling.

All of you who "pick sides" on either Samsung or Apple need to THINK a bit. Don't just pick sides with a company, pick sides with reason or with unreason/delusion if you must pick one. You can't just draw a line that splits two companies when both are doing nonsense.

Good lets hope apple learns not to start such foolish lawsuit over nothing.

lol Samsung those are called standard essential patent, you are required to offer a fair licensing term ....

Yes, and fair licensing term might require cross-licensing.

Apple can't just say "Hey Samsung, your patent suck so give them to us for free or perhaps we'll pay you this lame royalty fee (but not to much, mind you!), but we don't give you any of ours super awesome patents"

There's a lot more stories about stores opening. A section for that would be quite a boon. Seriously, why should I care that a store is opening half a world away from me ?
