Apple is hanging on to the smartphone market by a thread, a name, and an IOS. Sorry, but the hardware on this is WAY better than the iPhone 5. Apple is "stuck on thin" and its beyond annoying. They are destroying their mac lines slowly and I suspect the next iPhone will look very similar to the last iPhone. Seriously, who will buy an iPhone 5s that looks like an iPhone 5? If not for IOS, I would be on the galaxy.

Why do people still expect a revolution with every update?

Seem whether Samsung or Apple, people expect every new device to be revolutionary. It just isn't possible. I don't know what Gizmodo thought Samsung could do that would be so revolutionary.

Re the phone, as one who just ditched a Samusng after six months to return to iPhone, I say, "Meh, it runs Android." I'm over Android. Never enjoyed it in those six months.

The fact that this phone's screen has the same resolution as my TV is a little mind-blowing. Being able to put a full HD video on my phone without having to scale it down first would be pretty cool.

When Apple releases a phone that looks mostly the same (iPhone 4S): Meh! Apple is doomed!

When Samsung releases a phone that looks mostly the same (Galaxy S4): Wow! THAT'S innovation! Apple seriously needs to innovate!

I was kind of enjoying not having any news about the GS4 on the homepage while it lasted...sigh. I understand this is a top iPhone competitor but front page news....eh.

P.S. I watched some of the live stream and it was just....odd. Not a fan of the presentation or device at all.

I would think it odd if MacRumors didn't put this as front page news. It's the number 1 competitor to the iPhone.

This post should prove entertaining, here we go!

I love how 'politics' can't be talked about here, because it's so controversial. But Samsung vs. Apple is far, far worse than 'politics', and the fight is enjoyed in all it's pathetic glory here.

I sure hope Samsung 'wins', so the 75% of the macrumors posters who are Samsung fans leave, and this community can be what it was meant to be.

Now waiting for the incremental iPhone 5S in 6 months, still featuring a dual core CPU when the rest of the world has movied on to quad core.
Who cares? As long as it's fast with low-power consumption. The A6 does a good job at that.

This is not mind-blowing as your TV has a very low resolution (PPI) screen.

Did anyone watch the live announcement? It was a broadway play with actors, a tap-dancing kid, narration, set-up scenes, live orchestra and more ... and this was not a good thing. Was the strangest, most amateur, crazy, wild, what-in-the-world-were-they-thinking performance I have seen.

It was so bad I forgot about the phone they were unveiling and was just shocked at the show they were putting on and wondering who could have thought this was a good thing? Could be a great phone but that is a memory I will have a tough time erasing from my mind.

Was like being dragged to your neighbor kid's middle-school play and watching with one eye-open and the rest of your face covered by embarrassment:) Wow!

Apple should try to exit the smart phone business and save some face while they still have some pride.

No way can they withstand the assault that Samsung is going to provide with their ever more impressive innovations.

The iPhone survived so long thanks to gimmicks, but its not getting it done anymore. Apple will be smart to enter some other market segment like smart watches.

I get a headache keeping up with android phones and all those features between them, the carriers and brand of phone. I also think they're all iphone clones to a degree. Maybe apple has me drinking the kool-aid but I'm won't switch over this. I agree if I was the htc one looks sexier. Having the iphone 5 since launch I think the screen should have been wider since using it with one hand as apple said that's what they tried to keep intact isn't really reality

Are you for real?

the screen is the only thing i like about these phones.

Uh, well. Any ppi bigger than what the eye can resolve is only a spec sheet item, there is no benefit. Especially not since it is still a PenTile AMOLED display with a fake pixel count, slightly impacted font smoothing capabilities and fake colors... It is big, yeah. But that's about it.

I hope that Apple, IF they should offer a bigger phone at some point, will do it properly (IPS or IGZO, no PenTile fraud, powerful and even backlight). Otherwise I prefer smaller.

Apple built a new market with iPhone 1 and its been spec bumps and competitor copy cats since then.

What wow do people really want from these things? There hasn't been a true wow since the iPhone 1.

Agree. Would really like Apple to produce an iPhone 5S with under the hood improvements, in addition to a larger screened iPhone 6. Preferably at the same time. And in the case of an iPhone with a larger screen: sometime soon would be good!

There's a reason the Galaxy S3 has sold millions: there's a HUGE demand from people for larger screened smartphones. Apple can go on all they want about the iPhone 5 being the optimal size for one hand use (thumb placement, etc) but they are losing out on a huge number of customers, who are either jumping ship or going with Android or Windows for their first smartphone because of one simple, single feature: larger screen size.

Apple can continue making the current iPhone 5 size for years to comes, but they really need to have the option for people to buy either a 4" or 5" iPhone. I know I would have tough time deciding; probably try a 5" for a contract and jump back if it didn't feel right. Happy either way.

A Hi-DPI display nearly 2 years before any competitors. That's spec bumps? By this logic everything is a spec bump.
