Dimensions
iPhone 5: 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm
Samsung Galaxy S4: 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm

If you don't have the extra 1cm x 1cm room in your pocket:

- How do you put your hand in your pocket to pick up the iPhone?

- What kind of clothing are you wearing?

Pockets not withstanding, operating the phone one handed without straining my thumb is way more important to me than a 5" screen.

No - It's like this - I should be able to go into a country music forum and discuss how much Taylor Swift sucks or is awesome. Fine. Compare her to Faith Hill, Reba, etc. But there shouldn't be a 75% majority on there saying, Oh, well, Beyonce and Pink are so much better - country music sucks!

Android fans have overtaken these boards, and it's just sad. They should go to their own boards and talk about how much the iPhone sucks. But they have their panties all in a bunch and treat Android like a religion that they must 'convert' the Apple followers. I don't see huge numbers of Apple fanatics in Android forums. Says something about the Android fans inferiority complex.

There I go, I've now thrown fire into this thread. Sheesh.

well it doesn't help that macrumors posts flame bait every time an android competitor makes a move now does it? blame the site's authors then.

and android does have a larger market share now, so of course there will be some apple owners (like me) who also like to discuss or even own other technologies from the competition.

not all of us are immature children who are not able to discuss things in a civil and mature way.

i don't need any customer service help....i am not technically challenged....as long as they honor my warranty i don't care.....

Enjoy sending your phone back by snail mail and waiting for several weeks/months while they fix it. I enjoy walking into the Apple Store with a broken iPhone and walking out with a new/refurbished one. Have done that several times since 2007.

I really, really like apple and especially ipads but this makes the iphone seem a generation old. Apple just works well but my rows of icons is getting very very old in comparison to this. Still I think this will push apple to step up its game for the iphone 5s/6. Good for both android and apple...

Another Samsung fandroid creates a macrumors account to pretend he is an Apple user leaving for Samsung. Oh, like a user stated above, please bring back the down arrow option!

1cm x 1cm? I think your math is off.

iPhone 5: about 7255mm^2
S4: about 9535mm^2
S4 vs iPhone 5: 132% size.

Well they will help you plenty until the HTC one 2 comes out at which point you will be forgotten with no future software updates. It's what HTC has done with all their flagship phones. Their product life cycle ends when the new one comes out. In contrast, apple continuous to update the 3GS. Trust me, had an HTC before moving to apple. There is a reason why HTC has under 6% market share.

Apple has a golden opportunity here to mock Samsung's ridiculous chaotic mess of a presentation with their own subdued simple style. They should make an ad to take advantage of it.

So we know what it looks like, and we know some software features. No mention of Android. No mention of NFC. No mention of wireless charging. We don't know the processor. We don't know the price. Do we know the release date? What else?

Are you serious?!? The Galaxy S3 has NFC and wireless charging, and they mentioned it runs Android 4.2.2. These are all assumed knowledge of non-Apple phones. I love the iPhone, but other phones are way ahead of needing to even MENTION NFC and wireless charging.

When Apple releases a phone that looks mostly the same (iPhone 4S): Meh! Apple is doomed!

When Samsung releases a phone that looks mostly the same (Galaxy S4): Wow! THAT'S innovation! Apple seriously needs to innovate!

To be fair, that's 6 nearly identical iPhones to 2 nearly identical Galaxies. 3:1 is a pretty steep proportion.

And people call this innovation? When Apple releases a phone with new features its dubbed mediocre but now all of a sudden a little bigger screen, Siri like voice feature and one additional feature with spec bumps and it's "WOAH, the next big thing".

holy crap one feature? do you know how to count? these features are ONTOP of the S3. hell the iPhone cant even share a file over Bluetooth o wifi direct lol let alone anything to do with NFC.

also the S4 has double almost every single spec of the S3, has the iphone ever doubled every spec?

almost all galaxy S series phones come with Swype, you can type faster with 1 thumb than anyone using a conventional keyboard typing with 1 thumb, if you upgrade to swift keyboard, you rarely even have to type the words you want.

Not everyone lives close to an AppleStore - so what do these people do? Yes - send the device back to Apple for repair.

I always waffle back and forth on whether or not I post replies to ones like his because it seems futile. Some people just refuse to accept that people can own apple device and other tech. Or that even if they are all Apple - that everything they say has to be in some sort of corporate alignment with them.

I must have missed that requirement when signing up.

That's funny. I have an iPhone 1 and an iPhone 4. The difference is night and day. Even between 4 and 5, it's very noticeable.

Your memory might need refreshing. It's like how people claim that Mario Kart 64 is the best Mario Kart game ever then go back and play it and complain about the graphics and controls sucking and the game being too easy.

Oh- and they just noted that there's wireless charging (depending on carrier)

u mean to say that the same lame user experience on iOS since 2007 is great? it's just sad....everyone in my friends circle and work place are dumping their iphones for samsung.....the screen size on iphone 5 is ridiculous!! terrible resolution, pathetic battery life, LTE signal is terrible(cant blame AT&T coz my friends HTC one x has better speeds on same network), the new earphone jack in the bottom is sad, "earpods" are a joke to say the least! crappy mono speaker.....the list is never ending.....

iPhones were considered "cool" until a year ago.....people laugh at you if u upgrade to an iPhone5 now.....samsung galaxy series is the new "cool" kid on the block now....

You're either intentionally trolling, or you're a kid who can't make their own decisions, and to be honest, I'm not sure which is worse.

I recommend learning some basic grammar and spelling, it'll go a long way in proving a point on the internet (troll or not).

Seems like a pretty cool device.. Although battery life with all those features will be horrible.
The GS4 has a pretty beefy battery. Anyways, as a recent iPhone 5 to Galaxy Nexus switcher, I've grown accustomed to the mid-afternoon battery switch and I don't find it that disruptive.
I'm going to get a new phone this summer and I'm waiting for a camera shootout between the GS4, HTC One, Experia Z, and iPhone 5s. To me, camera quality is a big differentiator between phones. I got a GNex because of cost considerations after my iP5 was stolen, and as an owner of every iPhone since the 3G, the only thing I really miss about my iPhone is the camera.

There has been a ton of hype and build-up to this device, and ultimately, it left us feeling cold. The S IV feels uninspired. There are small spec bumps from the previous generation and there's a ton of software which will largely sit unused. There's just no wow-factor here.

Sound familiar to anyone? Apple is not the only one disappointing folks with new spec bumps. The S3 only came out 9 months ago, what do you expect?
I have an S3 and I love it but I wish the materials were more like the new HTC One and they should ditch the Touchwiz and go with pure Android. Good thing I've flashed mine with Cyanogen.

No matter how much you Apple folk are trying to delude yourself into it - while this isn't a huge leap forward, it's not an 'S' progression update.

When you put the 4 and the 4S next to each other, you literally cannot tell the difference. They look identical until you turn the phone on and look at some features.

The S3 to S4 progression features a different (albeit slight) shape, a different shaped home button, a different screen size, a different handset footprint, chrome banding, different camera and speaker placement etc - not to mention the first handset in the world with an Octa-core CPU and, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's the first handset with LTE roaming.

Like I said, it's not a huge leap forward, but it's not an S progression update either.

Another set of gimmicks that don't work nearly half as good as they claim, and then everyone looks to root it and install something else.

Is not about specs is about function. We can't go back to the PCs 10 years ago or Digital Cameras few years ago (eg more megapx = better camera). I'm not saying that this phone is good or bad...but maybe not better than the iPhone 5 (apart from the six month gap in release).

What's the point of having a full HD screen and not having enough space to store few of them, or enough battery to actually see a 2hr movie and surf the internet for a while....obviously I don't know the answer to this questions yet.

I think that Apple is doing a great job for most of the average user, like my mother (many of us are not average users and for that reason we demand a better and a more flexible phone)

Check out Resurrection Remix...It's like Cyanogen on steroids ;)
