Dimensions
iPhone 5: 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm
Samsung Galaxy S4: 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm

If you don't have the extra 1cm x 1cm room in your pocket:

- How do you put your hand in your pocket to pick up the iPhone?

- What kind of clothing are you wearing?

Do I really need to qualify what slim means? And I have the 4s btw. But even using the 5 as an example I can hold it in my hand and it feels like a phone not a clumsy palm pilot circa 1997.

Apple simply wins when it comes to design, form factor, and materials. If you don't believe that there's no shame in it - be happy and buy a samsung.

Not trying to sound critical but how much better can a display get when once it leaves the ability to be seen by the human retina? Serious question. To me anything over 400+ seems pretty pointless.

It's the same craze as with the megapixels in cameras a couple of years ago. Everyone knew the photos would not get better, just (unnecessarily) bigger. But it was still one of the main selling points.

I find the whole smartphone development quite amusing. My iPhone 4 still satisfies me so much, I can't be bothered to upgrade. There are no groundbreaking features on both the iPhone 4S and 5 that would persuade me to upgrade. I will upgrade, once my iPhone 4 either breaks or is too slow to be reasonably used. I won't expect any breathtaking developments anytime soon, as the Galaxy S 4 clearly shows.

Screen size

Screen sizes are increasing so much, and now with this Air Gestures feature, soon there will be an App called hopscotch. Just put your phone on the ground and literally play hopscotch on your phone....

When Apple releases a phone that looks mostly the same (iPhone 4S): Meh! Apple is doomed!

When Samsung releases a phone that looks mostly the same (Galaxy S4): Wow! THAT'S innovation! Apple seriously needs to innovate!

Looking the same? I don't care how my phone looks, my phone isn't a fashion accessory. I care about what's inside my phone.

meh...

Deja, Deja, Deja Vu...

Its the S3 with some gimmicks no one is going to use... air gestures? Just touch the screen? that sounds tiring... I would think the pause video would waste a ton of battery and I would turn it off for sure, sometimes i listen to the sound of a video only

Lets face it. The smartphone took huge leaps from mid 2010-2012 in terms of tech (screen resolution and multi core processors).

We are basically in year 5-6 of the current smartphone generation. It's a very mature segment now. There is no "wow" factor.

Smartphones are becoming like the computer industry. From 1995-2000 big gains in computer processing power and advancement from windows 95 to windows 2000 (windows 2000 really was the base kernel for windows xp). From that time one. People didn't feel the need to upgrade the computers often. Maybe every 3-4 years.

I see your point. Those are so easily distinguishable I can't imagine someone confusing them. Look, one's bezel is slightly thicker!

So you judge the phone overall by how it looks from the front with the screen off? Maybe if you're using it as a fashion accessory, you should get the original iPhone and save the bucks.

Literally just finished watching it. The only thing I loved about it was the new camera. Nothing else too exciting.

Well, Samsung got one thing right, the next big thing was already here... last year. Jkjk.

I'll applaud them for trying something different in their delivery.

Some of these features are quite gimmicky, but there are some interesting features too - such as the eye tracking and Air Gestures. The translations could be kind of useful during foreign travel.

I'm sure this Galaxy will sell well. I'd be interested in its battery life... how much of an improvement is it really?

i seriously have no clue why apple fans think android phones have crap battery life, look at the run time of my galaxy nexus, WAY more than 1 full day (24 full hours)

The S4 is really nice, but I'm a fan of the stylus, so I guess I'll wait for the Note 3.

Hope you've dumped your Apple stock, an iPhone 5/5s will get blown out of the water by this. While hardcore Apple fans won't buy this, everyone else will. It's superior every which way but in looks--as if that's a big concern. Replaceable battery, expandable memory slot, outputs to TV, IR blaster for TV remote functions, LTE, DirectX 10 graphics, NFC, 5" HD display, external temp and hygrometer.

I hope Apple comes out with the iPhone 6 this year, they need to.

What you don't realize is we love Apple because it is not cheap plastic crap like Samsung, and their devices work.

Oh - so tell us more about the time you've spend with the S4 so far. How is it really?

Well, judging by the hands on the air swipe thing just looks like a nice slow way to scroll between photos- let's call it "Gingerbread Mode".

The difference is huuuuuuge if you're holding them and looking at them IRL. That picture doesn't do it justice (and you know it).

What's with the higher resolution screen?

Is there any reason to have more pixels, or is this just a spec bump (that makes people think the iPhone isn't as good just because its pixel density is lower)?

That had to be the most corny & obnoxious unveiling of an electronic product I have ever seen in my life.

Totally makes me want to buy a iPhone 5s instead... :apple:

Can someone please define for me a "photo with audio" ?

It's an audio annotated photo.

It's actually not that much of a new concept. Many of the early 90s DSLRs had this feature (expensive cameras though) so you could shoot something and describe it. This was before EXIF was big. It was great for shooting events. Instead of needing pad and pen - you could take someone's picture and do a quick audio sound bite with their name/spelling.

Maybe it's because people on multiple sites who own both say that the iPhone still lasts longer. *shrugs* Unless it's a Droid Maxx. But that doesn't compare as the battery, and phone are freaking huge. Put a Mophie on an iPhone and it'll last longer.

For me, the PenTile Matrix screen kills it for me. I can spot one of those the instant I look at one. Crap screens. If by some miracle the resolution is so high that I can't see it I'll retract said statement.

Samsung adds a bigger screen, more ram and faster processor and they are suddenly the innovation kings, Apple does the same and they are not innovating enough. Double standards much! I don't have loyalty to any brand, I have Samsung products and Apple products but the people who get all defensive about a certain product whether it be Apple or Samsung have something wrong with them.

Apple definitely need a new product soon however, it doesn't matter who manufactures a phone we are at the point where there is not much left to do except bump specs, change aesthetics and make things thinner/smaller.

Blarg, I honestly think that Nokia and Blackberry (research in motion was a much better name) are the only ones putting out genuinely interesting new phones right now, Apple included.

I think it's an interesting phone, but it doesn't appeal to me. I can see why others would like it, and that 128GB max capacity (with card) is sweet... but it just doesn't really get to me at a visceral level.

That said, there's some pretty cool HW and SW tech there, and I'll be interested to see how Apple responds with the 5S, although I really don't think the S4 is going to be the one to beat by the time the 5S arrives - I think Google will bring out something better. We'll see.

And since none of us have held the GS4, it's also misleading to compare it to the GS3, even though they look pretty similar in photos.

This should have been called the Samsung Galaxy S3s

Being an avid Samsung fan, this certainly was less than what I expected. I was seriously put off by the complete absence of mentioning a processor, until I realized WHY; because this was an international audience watching. The international version appears to include an 8 core 1.6GHz processor, while here in the US we get a 1.9GHz quadcore. Seriously WTF!?

Apple might sue, they probably have the letter "s" after a number copyrighted.
