Congratulations, you finally got my point. That is showing exactly the same result as my graphic: The edges extend beyond the bezel.

And this is it in practical use: These watches are are in exact scale relative to each other. I included the 38mm Huawei mock-up because technically it's possible given that Apple is able to produce a similar-sized rectangular watch. Of course there would be substantial compromises, just as with the 38mm Watch, in terms of reduced battery life, reduced legibility, and reduced screen space to render content. Apple has already made these compromises with the 38mm Watch to attract customers with smaller wrists.

With a little more tweaking to the round case design, and a custom round UI, I could see Apple releasing a very handsome product line-up similar to this.

Awesome. Just what everyone wants /s Lose functionality for the sole purpose of having the look of an old-fashioned watch. For the maybe 10% of people who care about that.

If Android watches were rectangular and the Apple watch was round, then round would be better.

I don't think it's that at all. Apple is a rare company. One of those companies that comes once every 50yrs that consistently gets it right.

Having said that, if there can be a small round watch, I'd consider it. Right now the Apple watch is small and it has apps.

Or they now have a large enough fan base that thinks whatever they do is right and ignores most other companies.

Not sure what you mean by this. Are you saying that people that stick with brands they trust don't have a choice? People can buy what ever they want. Yes choice is a good thing.

They have the choice to stick with or try whatever brand they like. Having several choices is good for the consumer.

Wow!

The Verge seem to like it. They're usually all about Apple.

http://www.theverge.com/2015/9/4/9260263/samsung-gear-s2-smart-watch-ifa-2015

Huh! They've been crapping on Apple in the last 2 years NON STOP.
They've become a clickbait factory.
Title is usually Blah blah blah Apple blah blah blah.
The blah blah blah may or may not have anything to do with Apple.
They just have to put Apple in there in the title page for clicks.
The hatchet review of the Watch was so bad, people actually laughed at them for it.

Speeds and feeds are fairly standard – 360 x 360 resolution, a nice dual core 1.0 GHz processor, 4GB internal memory – but the styling is nice and at 11.4mm thin it’s quite svelte. No pricing or shipping info right now but we’ll update this post as we hear more.

I always find it fascinating when people recite processor speed, number of cores in a mobile product!
Especially in a watch were they'll be idle almost all the time...
What makes this thing responsive is not the CPU, but the use of Tizen instead of Android Wear.
The problem is that you get just about no Apps that way!

John Moltz:

That’s not very forward-thinking, though. I think there’s a ridiculous fetishization of circular watches going on.

Android Wear Watches Look More Like Actual Watches
It’s as if square watches never existed. Also, guess what, the Apple Watch is an actual watch. The reason most analog watches were round is not because round watches are better or because square watches can’t be stylish. It’s simply because the motion of the hands describes a circle. That’s all the space that was ever needed for the device to fulfill its most basic function. Because that shape is so tightly suited to that particular function, it’s decidedly at odds with adding functionality to it. Thus we have the date being blocked by the hands for about five minutes of every hour. A tricked-out watch like a chronograph suffers from almost all of those added features being blocked by the hands at various times, making them unusable.

Wired said about the Gear S2: “It’s a smartwatch that wants to be a normal watch.” That’s not actually a good thing. When you’re entering a new era, you shouldn’t hamstring it by tying it to the functional requirements of the past. And there is a very good argument to be made that, with one possible exception that no one is taking advantage of yet, square faces are better for digital displays of information. They’re certainly easier to code for.

Apple’s faces need work, however. I would like to see a little more rethinking of the watch face, to provide one with a more fluid representation of time that makes better use of a square. Maybe something like the Solar face, but without so much unused space.

Samsung made a nice looking watch. But the reason it looks nice to us is the same reason cars that looked like horse-drawn coaches probably looked nice to people in the late 1800s. It’s just what we’re used to. It’s time to rethink that.

Did you forget to scale that watch? Because it is not lining up.

If you look outside of the square on the round watch, you can see usable information being displayed.
That looks so much better than a megabezel square display.

Think outside of the square. ..
