On average over a lot of falls yes then design counts, but then plastic durable smartphones are a lot better then any current smartphone.

Erhm no, that's in the eye of the beholder.

For the average consumer who barely drops his phone its more luck then anything else.

There is more then dropping involved when phones brake you know :) I've got a friend which broke his plastic smarthphone just because he had hit a stone wall to avoid someone else. But agree, phones normally don't break that often. But then again, I still prefer metal just to be sure it will sustain longer when the device would accidentally hit something hard.

And which is better is entirely in the eyes of the beholder, I should know, it's my job to let people thing otherwise. ;)

They should bring back metal/steel bumpers on cars and SKB should take pointers from Apple and move away from plastic cases because they are not durable.

Because the Galaxy Alpha doesn't look like an iPhone 5/5s.

Conceptual copying is not what I'm referring to. This is more like blatant copying right down to the details.

Looks more like a galaxy s2 to me then an iPhone

not really most durable rugged smartphone are plastic ones
. There is a reason for that .

thats simply marketing that lets you believe that . Had an ipad that fell on a corner the aluminium got pushed in and the second time it fell on the same spot it cracked the screen . A more bendable material
Might have protected it better .

Do you honestly think the glas metal iphone 4 was designed for durability ? The main reason metal
Is used because its percieved as high end .

Yet the screen is bigger , more pixel battery life about the same , great engineering i would say .

More pixels doesn't make a photo necessarily look better. That's the same wrong and above all none discussion when people started to debate that one machine was better then the other one due of more megahertz.

Samsung S5 camera

It uses OIS and actually gets very good reviews for image quality. Can't do this accidentally. Samsung also makes cameras which as part of their expertise made its' way in to the phone.
The new Blackberry Passport will have a 13MP camera with OIS. Sony is working on a curved sensor... that'll be cool. Hopefully the new iPhone6 will have OIS.
Currently, I am thinking blackberry passport, or Xperia Z3, maybe iPhone6. How does one chose?? :)

I went to a shop to buy iPad Air but came out with Samsung Galaxy Tab s - why?
It was a hard decision as I do love iOs operating system and there is no denying android has a long way to go with good quality apps - albeit there are good ones too....and same ones you have on an iPad/iPhone. But after seeing the screen AND the fact that it has a sd card slot so you are not limited to the small memory to store your files in or having to use a cloud which is not always ideal + being able to have 2 programs running side by side ... I went with the Samsung. As someone more used to iOs it took a while to suss out how it works but have to say I am happy with it. There is a lot of tinkering you can do to make it right for you. Several choices on screen colours/brightness/contrast etc etc...If iPad had all that I would have gone with it but over all despite the user experience maybe not being as intuitive I am enjoying it. And looking at the next iPhone it seems Apple has lost the one thing in which they shine - the design. The iPhone 6 is just plain ugly. Sorry fanboys but Apple just has to move with the times or it will get left behind which would be sad. I suppose iPhone 6 will be the test being the first without involvement from Jobs...
Next year I might go back to Apple if they introduce features to lure me back but as is - sorry plastic or no plastic the Galaxy Tab s is one beautiful looking machine!

I like this ad. It doesn't insult Apple users, it compares products.

After all, most of us agree Samsung DO make the best screens. Didn't everyone with a Retina MacBook Pro want a Samsung screen - not one made by LG?

However, I find with ads like this, it's hard to believe those are just random people from the street and not actors. Or at least, it's hard to know if the majority of people said "Yeah but, I'd rather have an iPad" and they didn't show those.

I was talking about engineering not usability . This tablet isnothing to scoff about , had it briefly in
My hands feels , looks and runs great .

You dont like android ? Ok dont let that cloud your judgement only makes you look like a silly fanboy .

Not quite sure why you quoted me in this?

I did say longer period , so the anw er is no . Figured asmuch .

If it takes me longer than 10 minutes for me to get over a poor experience of using a device, it's not for me. It's almost as if I need to learn how to use it, whereas the iPhone felt natural right away. Samsung's software is just too confusing.

And I'm guessing you typed that reply from an android device, right?

Samsung Asks NYC Street-Goers to Compare Galaxy Tab S and iPad Air in New Ad

Nice grammar.

Yeah thatnatural is bs . Gave as a gift an old iphone 3g , ipod touch and a new nokia 530 and guess what the nokia was the easiest for them .

Problem is for years you have used ios , it takes longer then 5 minutes to adjust .

And no iphone 5 , last android i had was a galaxy ace 3 years ago .

Man some of you guys are ridiculous. Believe it or not there are other good products out there. Especially with [semi] recent developments in Android being a lot better.

There is nothing wrong with the Samsung tablet. Different products for different people.

The way some people bash it because it doesn't run iOS make it seem like it doesn't even turn on.

. There is a reason for that .

Indeed, it's cheaper to produce.

thats simply marketing that lets you believe that .

Nope.

Not for the devices I bought at that time. I looked at independent research that had stated that the iPhone was more solid and more reliable for dealing with a sudden impact then the plastic made smartphones.

Had an ipad that fell on a corner the aluminium got pushed in and the second time it fell on the same spot it cracked the screen . A more bendable material Might have protected it better .

Sorry to hear that, but again, that's your experience versus a solid test procedure. I go with test results and not with exception due of one personal experience.

Nothing is been designed to last as long at it could last. Everyone know's this. Unless you're dealing with guys like NASA for which durability truly matters. Or for the military. It's doable to create an iphone which last for decades, but it doesn't. Not just because the materials wouldn't hold out that long but also because the software in 5 years time would make the machine run slow like *censured*.

But that has nothing to do with -just- Apple. Washing-machines don't last that long as they used to do either. Unless you're willing to pay extra for a machine that last longer. This is where quality names kicks in.

So don't try to convince me that Samsung product last longer then iPhones, just like iPhones they also can't update software over and over again. And this is no coincidence.

Is used because its percieved as high end .

Because it often is. A very expensive car, general speaking, would last longer then a very cheap one. There is a saying in my country, Duurkoop is goedkoop, which refers to Expensive goods are cheaper which sounds odd but it's meaning is pretty obvious and quite often true: cheaper computers are often cheaper simply because they are made out of cheaper materials which often simply don't last that long then very expensive computers. I've bought years ago a Mac Pro for a lot of money, several thousands of dollars, but the machine still runs smoothly and I never ever had any problems with it. With PC's, on which I work as well, I had encountered various problems throughout the years. But if I would have spend a lot of money on a PC made out of the finest materials I'm sure those situations where things got ugly would have been way less frequently.

But this IS a none discussion. I'm not going to debate test results on materials, I don't give it to much thought on that since I like to work with the best materials I can get and at the end, of course, personal feel towards a product count's as well. I can only state that Apple never let me down on the products I've bought -so far that is- and that's enough for me.

The whole childish debate about which product is better, a samsung or an iPhone doesn't appeal to me, both devises are good and both have, I'm sure, their positive sides to it. I'm just amazed that every time when Apple comes with a product fanboys from various products start kicking in with remarks about how bad Apple really is and how much better samsung products are, just like that commercial. I don't find that very trustworthy to be honest and on top of that these kinds of discussions doesn't make sense to me, it often ends up with a polemic discussion hitting the ball, over and over, back again.

Mine is better,
no mine,
Nope, mine is better....

Etc.. you get the picture. Not stating you're doing so but I'm not going to get involved in such discussion if you don't mind.

Wether you want to accept it or not plastic has its advantages, light, durable, easily moldable,colors,...

Nope.

And thats largely bs . Again its more luck with the 5 5s , 4 and 4s were a lot easier to break due to stupid design .

.

1droptest is not a solid test procedure . A 100 might depending on how done . You just read what you want to believe .

Plenty of rugged phones out there for people that actually need that , and as far as i can tell all expensive and plastic .

The only one saying this is you , i think most phones now are pretty decent .

I've stated many times that I think smartphones in general are good devices these days. But you keep babbling on about what you think is better and when you can't convince me with your opinion you start suggesting that I'm a fanboy.
And now you're even stating that I begun....

I'm not here trying to convince you and I've no intentions doing so. But I'm to old to go along with such childish level: 'no! you did it!' kind of discussion. And that's that. ^^

Sure the normal debate would be if you actually gave any arguments .

Dont know where you see that "emotions"

Again i like most high end phones use an iphone cause its provided by my work .

*shrug* i never said any phone was better / best on the contrary , yet that is what you claim . Strange to say the least .

I'm getting sick of these adverts, not just Samsung but from other competitors. Why can't they just advertise their products for the features that they have and let it stand on it's own two feet instead of always having to compare it directly with the iPhone 5S or the iPad Air.

And yes, Apple perhaps did start it with the Mac vs PC ads a while back. But the beauty of those ads was that Apple was generic about it, they didn't target specific manufacturers or particular devices. Just shows how desperate the competition must be if they're always attacking specific Apple products directly.

Come on... be serious

perhaps???

generic???

They clearly targeted Microsoft. True, they were funny and clever, but now Apple has to live with the consequences.

But what amazes me the most is how anyone gets so rattled up because of a simple advert and their take on any product... how does one come to be so sensitive and emotionally invested with such futile things, I wonder... just remember: they are bickering about toys that will be obsolete in a few years. Nothing really important to get sick about! ;)

Anyway...

Cheers!

I agree. But I also think this commercial is badly made, just from esthetic viewpoint. It's way to obvious and the end results doesn't come with a twist or with any surprise. It's just stating this device is better and we let people come to state the same pretending these are all natural honest opinions which makes it look very cheap because it's so obvious. I miss the humor in it and something original.

But I agree this is nothing to actually feel bad about, I see bad commercials every day, this is just one of many.
