That would be an instant buy from me.
New screen tech and size is always a compelling reason for a user to upgrade but I feel this time around that most of my apps run rather well on my M1 MBA. Hoping the battery will last 5-8 years before I need to upgrade.

Just stay away from any store that has those on display for 3 years LOL
Hopefully in 3 years we have microLED in AW and iPhones and hopefully iPads shortly after which will make these OLED a transitionary tech. I might as well jump from LED to microLED on an AS MacBook Air when it’s available.

So 14" mini-LED in 2021 and OLED in 2022?
Suspect, Apple usually milks a technology for as long as possible take for reference the 2018 Liquid Retina Display in iPad Pro and the eventual change on the 12.9” model in 2021 which in 2022 the 11” version will get it too. That’s approximately 3 years for that marketing screen tech to change and in a limited fashion, I suspect if Apple offers miniLED for the MBP 2021 it will see a change to something else in 2024.

It is becoming ever more apparent to me after buying the M1 iPad Pro 12.9 that mini LED is a stopgap kludge of a technology. The lack of edge illumination, the strange blueish ghosting in dark video scenes and the random blooming around text make it feel altogether unfinished. Can’t wait for OLED or microLED.

WHO MAKES ALL THE DEFECTIVE SCREENS FOR THE 12 INCH MACBOOK AND MACBOOK PRO M1'S????

If I get an M CHIP Mac it will be a Mac mini.

A BOUNCH OF DEFECTIVE MACBOOK M1 SCREENS SCARES ME.

NO WONDER WHY THEY ARE SO CHEAP.

I think 2022 is looking more and more like the year I’ll upgrade my 2017 MBP. The new Air just puts it to shame already, so I cannot wait to see what these 2022 monsters will do.

Don’t play with my emotions like this MacRumors! OLED is a dream come true but I know it’ll be miniLED at best
They said 2022. 2021 will def be mini-LED. I guess it's possible there could be an update next year though. We saw rumors earlier this year where they might add Face ID or 5G to the MacBook Pro eventually but not in 2021 most likely. Could be multiple years of updates in the works.

We will come back in a years time to see this is false.

Oh I already said that in 2020.

I will just play with it at the store, truly happy with my M1 and I will soon post my review to the forums. I probably won't be in the market until 2025.

OLED is not great at all for bigger screen. They still not able to fix the burn in issue. I really don't wanna spend my time and money on OLED. There is a reason why many pro monitors aren't OLED.
Maybe not fixed, but a lot of progress has been made on burn-in. OLED screens now have multiple protection features, varying from manufacturer to manufacturer, and the latest is to measure how much work each pixel does over it’s lifetime, and compensate for differences across the screen. This does mean the screen is not setup to use 100% of the potential to allow for creating differences. But as the new iPhone 13 can sustain 800 nits (1200 HDR) (and may be using similar protection), it gives a lot of headroom for variation if an OLED MBP were to match the 500 nits of the current generation of MBP.

Ready to purchase this right now. Samsung, please don't take too long. People are desperately waiting.
Samsung has been supplying OLED displays for laptops for quite a while now. I am sure that if you want to get a laptop with this new panel you'll be able to buy it in a few weeks just not from Apple.

Please release these MacBooks soon. The MacBook Pro M1 has been one of the best I have used so far. I cannot wait to see these redesigned MacBook 14=inch and 16=inch MacBooks. More ports, probably better mics and speakers. I would most probably get one if it is not too pricey. However I thought it would be Mini LED and not OLED?

The good thing about it is with these M1s I can just get a baseline from now on. I just want the extra screen space/better speakers type stuff but honestly these M1s are so blazing fast it's just greedy for me to want more power:p Even editing video has been a breeze for me, so nice for the price thus far.

Is it really an advanced technology if it causes headaches? After experiencing bad headaches and eye pain with both the M1 MBA and M1 MBP, I've lost all my excitement for future MacBooks.

While we are probably not gonna see a repeat of Intel and Apple would probably produce displays themselves, i wonder what the reason for Samsung lagging on the Mac side ?

Now-a-days couldn't it always come down to this?

customer "You got something better than me"..
Apple: "ok that's it, we're doing this our way"

Sounds good. I would definitely upgrade. I currently use a 2019 15" MacBook Pro base model. It has no issues, but I love OLED. I have wanted this for awhile.

Not going to start another discussion about the visual pros and cons of OLED vs. miniLED. What concerns me more is the question of PWM frequency. I noticed a striking change in eye fatigue coming from a 6Plus to a XS Max. iPP 12.9 with miniLED is just fine though. IMHO using OLED exclusively in upcoming macbooks would certainly be a dealbreaker for some people more sensitive to PMW, all the more so since the screens are significantly larger. On the other hand, I find it rather unlikely that Apple will be offering two fundamentally different screen technologies for the same product. Don't get me wrong, OLED is stunning and all but based on my personal experience I would not want to stare at OLED screens significantly larger than a phone all day long. YMMV though.
