Glad to see manufacturers exploring this space. There's certainly a market for a device that combines a larger display with smaller in-pocket footprint.

It'll take some iterations to get the kinks out of the technology though.

The problem is that it ends up being much thicker than a typical phone, and much smaller than a typical tablet - a half inch smaller than even the iPad mini. It’s the worst of both worlds.

Wow they’re not honoring the original pre-orders, that looks bad. If you want it, you have to wait and buy it again.

The $250 is nice, but I think they should’ve fulfilled the pre-orders and given the $250 on top of that.

The phone those people ordered was never made. You cant sell a product that you never actually made!

This is a new phone that is substantially different than the one that was initially announced.

This way people can decide if they really want the new phone. It makes the refund process simpler.

And maybe you noticed that they are making substantial changes to the ordering process, offering options that were not available the first time around.

So yeah, good on Samsung. Hopefully Apple is taking notes!

What are you saying?? The original people who have made pre-orders could have changed their mind from the incident and maybe they dont want to buy the phone anymore. Samsung is actually honoring their decisions and on top are giving $250 for those who have pre-ordered. What Apple would never do and just say its a feature.

Seems like a bunch of reviews have had some hands-on time with the new version, and are cautiously praising it. We'll see how it goes in the field. I have to admit, the idea of a pocketable tablet is appealing enough to me that I'd consider this device if it was half the price,

They will fulfill all new pre-orders. This move allows those who have since changed their minds due to no-confidence to be released from their pre-order without having to jump through any returns hoops. A helpful move. This whole thing is still a massive sh*tshow, but this makes sense to me. My only regret is not pre-ordering one myself to get $250 off a new soundbar.
They could just add a button for *reorder* and *cancel*

Samsung literally sent emails to customers who preordered after the debacle if they wanted to cancel their preorders.

Now look, I doubt people who buy a second time won’t have an issue getting one as I don’t see the demand being very high. But what’s the point of asking if you want to cancel your preorder if they’ll cancel it for you anyway?

They should have just made a flip (smart) phone instead of trying to bring this monstrosity to market.

I disagree. A phone being thicker is not a real problem.

It may not be for everybody, but...come on, man! This is a niche product, very expensive...few can afford it. The people who buy it will add it to their Rolex collection...

Besides, most people would much prefer the experience of using phone if it was thicker, assuming the thickness is due to the phone being more robust and having a bigger battery.

But we are not given a choi...and when people are shopping, they get a little blinded by the shine.

Have you seen the cases people put on their phones? And now cases have integrated batteries!

I feel sorry for people who buy a device in its beta stage, which will be ditched by Samsung in 2 or 3 years.

Imagine apple doing that with AirPower! Hell would froze. (too bad it wasn’t available on “preorder” though).

It doesn’t make sense. They are going to launch it real soon in September. They are days away from launching it and be able to start fulfilling the preorders, why are they cancelling it now?

Wow so all 100 that ordered are in for disappointment.

The whole stupid project should be cancelled.

I never understand comments like this. People who want a device you don't want should not be able to buy one? Companies who want to create a device you don't want should not be able to make them?

It costs me (essentially) nothing when someone buys a product I don't want. I don't care what they buy. It certainly doesn't hurt my feelings if people make different choices that I do. I would never, for example, buy $200 jeans. But I don't care at all that other people do.

For a phone that costs almost $2K, $250 credit is a slap in the face. I would of atleast expected $500 escepically for all the problems this phone has had. I was hyped for this phone and pre-ordered myself but after all this crap and the price tag I just can't justify the price anymore.

Well, with 250$ you can buy a cheap samsung phone and use it when your Fault dies the day after.
For $250 you can buy yourself 5 x $50 Samsung phones and if they break you have plenty of spares.

Jack of all trades. Master of none.

How long before we get AirPower comments filling the forums? Edit: NVM, already happened.

At least it isnt a $1500 Iphone that specs are usually at least 1 to 2 years out dated. I think what samsung is doing is the right step to take. $250 and the ability to pre-order again. Customers didn't lose anything that is for sure.
[doublepost=1567707683][/doublepost]Remember when Apple said it would never make a larger screen phone because no one would want one....yeah how big are Iphone screens now? Samsung is a leader in the industry and you have to give them credit for trying something new rather than price gouging their customer base just for a new iphone (insert number) that really isn't an upgrade.
