Can you imagine Samsung smartphones with Google apps and services as the defaults.
No Bixby and separate Samsung app stores.
In other words and almost stock Android look and feel on Samsung smartphones!

Samsung could soon bench Bixby in favor of the Google Assistant if current talks succeed

Thats a shame, I use Bixby for phone based searches and commands.
As far as know, Google assistant doesn't dig as deep in phone based requests.

Then again, its no biggie as I tend not to use either that much.

I wonder if they will let Google Assistant do the same as Bixby?

Sounds like an awesome combination to all those who get SD models. At this side of the pond we'd still need to get rid of Exynos to get the full experience.

If it happens then it's curtains for the Pixel line.

I'm a fan of both Pixel and Samsung phones...but it sure seems like the Pixel line has been floundering with a lack of direction lately. Maybe this is Google's answer and direction for the pixel line.
Can you imagine a Galaxy S30 with a Pixel like camera and Face Unlock. All Google core apps as defaults with no duplicate apps?

More Android developers would however need to implement Face unlock properly in to their apps for that to be of interest to me over a fingerprint scanner. I do think Google's Face Unlock is excellent though there is just no continuity with it. A few of my apps work with face unlock but it's the fingerprint authentication message that comes up on the screen before it scans my face if that makes sense! It's a little messy for my liking.

It's seamless on the iPhone - like it should be. However, no excessive duplicate apps would be superb.

I have a dream, where Samsung acts like a Microsoft O.E.M. and just makes hardware with a few utilities. Then the user is able to add whatever UI/skin and Apps they like and all Apps can be removed.

Want Microsoft’s UI and to use Cortana? Go ahead. Want to unlock the boot loader and load a different version of Android? No problem.

Sadly, this is only a dream.

Yay, let’s reduce competition even further!

Well, that's one way to look at it. Another would be less fragmentation in the Android ecosystem overall. I'm all for competition, but is Samsung really pushing Google in any real way? Bixby is not highly regarded in comparison to Google assistant. To me, as an Note 10+ user, the Samsung store is an afterthought. I don't see these as real "competition" as much as an overall duplication of effort. I'd rather see the competition on the hardware front between Android devices and more uniformity in software out of the box, but maintaining customization options.

We definitely don’t need more competition from a hardware perspective where there are already hundreds, if not thousands, of choices. We need more competition from a software perspective where there are precisely 2 meaningful options right now instead of hundreds or thousands.

Voice assistants, browsers, whatever else Samsung builds and includes with their devices.
So how is removing a redundant bloated piece of software that only works a fraction as well reduce competition?
You haven't explained anything about your comments...only listed redundant software.

So you are saying we need MORE redundant software on phones?

You can’t make a product like that better if people don’t use it... and if you remove it it will be used even less and definitely won’t get any better.

People (the market) have spoken...they don't like Bixby as a whole. Google assistant works ten times better.
If Samsung can integrate GA (Google Assistant) into their phones and replace Bixby it is a win for everyone. We will have a better digital assistant that everyone is familiar with. It will reduce software bloat and result in less system resources taken up by redundant software that the vast majority do not use.
They do not use it for a reason...it does not work as well as GA. Then allowing GA to do local searches on the phones will offer more convenience and better performance. This is one of those times when simplicity is better...less is more.

But you’ve then reduced competition by permitting google to use its dominant position to eliminate a competitor.

right! That is how the free market system works. You produce a product that works better than the competition....so people use it more because it is better.
Samsung tried with Bixby and it failed. One of the biggest knocks on Samsung phones and Android as a whole is how much bloat and redundant software it has on phones.
This is one step to reduce that kind of mess. It is a very good step forward for Samsung.

The competition is being reduced naturally by simply being inferior. If Bixby were a better product than Google assistant then I think your point would be valid. The choice is up to Samsung entirely. Continue to invest in a feature that is inferior and less popular or admit defeat and adopt what their customers have already chosen for themselves.
