right! That is how the free market system works. You produce a product that works better than the competition....so people use it more because it is better.
Samsung tried with Bixby and it failed. One of the biggest knocks on Samsung phones and Android as a whole is how much bloat and redundant software it has on phones.
This is one step to reduce that kind of mess. It is a very good step forward for Samsung.
But you can’t produce a more competitive product when the competition is unfairly rigged against you. For instance, why is google assistant on any android phones in the first place? Surely it’s the google bloat that should be removed from Samsung phones?

i think you are not seeing the whole picture here. Google makes Android. They developed the Android mobile OS as we now know it. They make a wide array of apps that are best in class. They got that way because they made something people preferred to use over the competition.

Believe me if Bixby was better that GA you would see a big push to get it used in more areas than just Samsung phones.

There are other digital assistants and search that existed before GA. But they are not used as much because GA is better.

So what you are saying is people should not use what is better...they use something else so that something else can become better?
That makes no sense at all...... It is like saying.....why buy the best car on the market? Buy the worst car so that it can become better.

A car doesn’t become better from use. A digital assistant does. You need the data from its use to make it better.

Basically you are advocating precisely the point I am making; that no one should bother competing against google assistant because no one will ever be able to make a better product because no one can make a better product that would make people switch away from google assistant. It’s a circular argument that does nothing but cement google as the dominant and only choice.

What we need is a competitive landscape that allows a plucky startup to not only compete fairly with google but be able to beat it. You seem to be advocating against that position.

and if you use a crappy digital assistant and get crappy results when a better best in class one is available makes no sense.

how do you get better data when people don’t use your product?
well for years Bixby has been on millions of Samsung phones world wide it has had the opportunity to become better and if failed to replace GA. So your question has been answered already. It has had the time and exposure to become better and it has not.

Is the just over 3 years been long enough though? How do you account for all the other data that google has at its disposal that Samsung doesn’t (search engine etc)?

Your questions were answered...Bixby has had years and been installed on 100s of millions of phones. People don't use it because they don't like it. It has a DOMINANT position on 100s of millions of phones so it has had the exposure and use to be used more than GA. It even has a dedicated button on most Samsung phones. Still people don't use it as much because it was not as good as GA.

I thought google forced manufacturers to include google assistant on their phones? Or was it the case that bixby existed without google assistant being present and people actively went out and sought google assistant from the App Store?

GAPPS come on every Android phone. Why? Because people want them. Then they are free to deleted them if they want to and use something else they think is better.
You can't delete Bixby from a Samsung phone.
But if you want to have a Samsung phone with GA...you can!
But you can't have a Samsung phone without Bixby. See the difference? The concerns you listed have been proven false.
Bixby has the dominant position on Samsung phones. People just don't like it.

As I stated earlier......GAPPS come on every Android phones. But you can delete them if you do not want them. Then with Android you can make any software your default system preference if so desired.

Then you know...Google is your friend...maybe use it to look some of this stuff up :p

So Samsung can choose to ship a phone without google assistant and chrome and instead ship it with its own apps and services alone?

I was under the impression that was NOT the case and google specifically barred that by tying manufacturers up in restrictive contracts.

really? Did you not read anything? That question was answered a few times already.....
Maybe you should Google some of these questions to educate yourself? Of if you want to "feel" better about it...Bixby it

I haven’t seen it answered at all yet.

I can read, I just can’t see the answer you refer to.
I think others and myself have proven your point to be moot. Yet you persist trying to go down the rabbit hole. Read the thread...then Google it perhaps.
@TopherMan12 said it best in post #25. Your original position was proven invalid.

I'm not sure if the licensing of Google apps is still accurate, but this clearly points out that those apps are optional.

"Lockheimer clarifies that Android more broadly will remain free and open source. These changes only affect the Google products that are traditionally bundled with the OS. If companies don’t want to pay, they can still ship a device without any of Google’s apps and services, as Amazon has long done and as already happens in China, where Google doesn’t operate. "

I don’t think you have actually. I’m yet to see a coherent argument as to how or why google assistant is ‘better’ other than they unfairly give themselves a prominent position on devices made by other people and they already have a huge data set on which to draw.

That’s specifically an all or nothing deal. Samsung cannot pick and choose which services to provide. If Samsung want the play store they HAVE to include google assistant and chrome, which gives google an unfair advantage.

Like i said....you need to learn to read and work on reading comprehension....
At this point you are just being obstinate.

Why can't they? Huawei is selling millions of phones without Google services.
Samsung could do the same. But they know no one would buy them.....
Again your position is proven invalid.....

My reading comprehension is fine you just hadn’t put forward a convincing argument.
