Do you only benchmark innovation through Apple? You are missing out on practically...everything.

No, not at all. I benchmark on practicality and value. I'm not missing out on....anything.

Also I got a chuckle out of "innovation." They took a phone, folded it in half, for reasons, and now I have this lovely brick I can put in my pocket and a beautiful seam I can look at and feel every time I use my brick, er, my phone. Welcome to the future!

Zyumzyun, c'mon, don't repeat yourself! 5th gen the same is too much. We need a smartphone that is folded twice — vertically and horizontally.

The reason Apple haven‘t made their own is because they haven’t made much interesting at all lately. They got scared and stopped innovating to stay ahead of others which means it gets less and less interesting to be in the ecosystem. I think their current “same as last year but slightly faster” is getting old fast, which means I gotta look elsewhere for innovation.
Don't forget about the better cameras! gotta have the 0.005% improved light filtering and bigger lens!

Flip 4 would break quite often right where it folds according to ATT employees they told me.
Mine never did. That's what I have currently, and it's my 3 foldable. Never had a break. The updates have been exciting enough to buy one every year. :)
Very expensive to fix when this phone screen breaks. No issues with the Fold 5 screen.
Not if you buy the insurance, but I haven't since the first foldable I bought, it's a waste of money in my experience.

For the past several years Apple and innovation is an oxymoron.

Looking forward to seeing the Specs difference between the Fold 4 vs 5, doesn't seem anything major unless I missed something?

Samsung today announced the launch of its fifth-generation foldable smartphones, introducing the Galaxy Z Flip5 and the Galaxy Z Fold5. Samsung has been producing foldable smartphones since 2019, and the latest models have a range of new features that improve upon the foldable design.

The Galaxy Z Flip5, priced starting at $1,000, is Samsung's smartphone that folds in half. When unfolded, it measures in at 6.7 inches, and when closed, there is a 3.4-inch interactive Flex Window available, which is the best new feature. Prior models had a small window that showed the time, notifications, camera controls, and other limited information, but the expanded window is 3.78 times bigger and almost functions as a full smartphone display.

In addition to supporting clocks that can match the face of Samsung's latest watches or Flipsuit Cases, the Flex Window supports widgets for checking the weather, taking and editing photos, texting, controlling music, making payments, browsing social networks, and even watching YouTube videos.

The flip design allows users to take hands-free selfies when the phone is half open, and there is a Dual Preview mode that lets a person being photographed see the result and make adjustments in real time. There are improved "Nightography" capabilities that optimize photos in situations with low light, and there's an AI-powered noise correction feature.

Camera hardware has not seen notable updates, with the Z Flip5 featuring a 10-megapixel selfie camera, a 12-megapixel ultra wide camera, and a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera.

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold5 is its flagship foldable smartphone, priced starting at $1,800. The Galaxy Z Fold5 opens like a book, and there is a new Flex Hinge design that improves the folding functionality. Samsung says that the Galaxy Z Fold5 is its thinnest and lightest Fold yet, and it is paired with a slimmer, more compact S Pen Fold.

There is a 6.2-inch Cover Screen that's usable as a standard smartphone when the Galaxy Z Fold5 is closed, and a 7.6-inch AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate when the device is unfolded. The main display's brightness has increased by upwards of 30 percent for improved viewing in bright sunlight.

I don't think this kind of tech is maybe your cup of tea then :)

If only apple made fold phone… and not flip like one, rather google pixel fold cooycat:)

Don’t get me started on that, it almost seems as if people think their sandwich will get more likes if the camera they used to take the picture with is better.
I actually wish they all would start dialing back with the camera, they're getting too lumpy and ugly. For what I use a camera for, something MUCH less is all I need. And I wish Apple would get the same level screen on their non pro phones. As it is, I buy the Pro model because of the screen and have to just deal with that lumpy monstrosity. Same goes for samsung of course.

I for one really like what Samsung is doing with the Flip. It's just a shame that it has Android inside.
Android is just as good as iOS for me these days, and better in a lot of ways since it's customizable. If they just had an Apple Watch competitor (A round watch is not good for dealing with texts and notifications) and a way to transfer Microsoft Authenticator data from an iPhone to an android phone, I'm not sure I'd get another iPhone.

There's a big push in men's fashion lately to go back to traditional wrist watches -- albeit those of fashionable designs. I've begun to return to my watch collection myself. I'm finding the Apple Watch -- while certainly informative -- is simply too boring. I really wish Apple would start creating some new designs and form factors to pump up the bling factor. Other competitors are toying around with that idea, but aren't really getting much out there that's attractive either.

With the Apple Watch, I'm beginning to think I would prefer a smaller, fashionable band that provides info and notifications from the Apple universe, but not include watch features. It could be worn as a fashion band on one arm, while we could wear our chic traditional watches on the other.
