It’s surprising you’d dismiss their design when leaked photos of the phone surfaced prior to its announcement. Typical Apple Luni’s 🤪

Not sure what your point is. Samsung released several smartwatches in a span of one year before the Apple Watch announcement.

When a product is first announced is not the same as when the first leaks happened.
The point is that the person I was replying to thought Apple was copying Samsung and that could not be further from the truth. Samsung has been focused on thin for years now and Apple is late to the game.

I only see complaints about the possibility of worse battery life and its extreme thinness being unnecessary, but I think the complaints should focus on that ridiculous price tag. And they wonder why people are not upgrading more often.
I didn’t expect such a high price tag. I guess that's why Samsung sells the 512 go at the same price as the base 256 go

If I were still buying slab phones, I would either want a thinner phone like the S25 Edge and have super fast charging, which apparently neither Apple nor Samsung can accomplish (nowhere close to the charging speeds on my Oppo Find N5)...or I would want the phone to be thicker with a bigger battery and no camera bump. This phone and the upcoming iPhone Air accomplish neither.

where samsung messed up is the price. if you are going to make it super thin and remove a camera you make it. cheaper than your main flagship. here in UK s25 edge will cost same as S25 ultra. madness.
That's crazy. In France it's selling for 1249 for Edge and 1469 for Ultra. In any case, it's crazy how nowadays paying 1K for a phone has become standard.

I am truly excited for the iPhone Air. My 16 PM is way too heavy for my liking.
I like the battery life, but I also hate that I have to wear a specific outfit based on it. If I'm wearing thin joggers or light shorts I need a hoodie to throw it in, if I wear jeans the pockets have to be big enough, I shouldn't have to change clothes based on phone architecture lol def going smaller next year or lighter in some capacity. I'll just use my phone much less to negate the loss of battery life, already cut my hours down by 90% just taking social media off it lol

That’s a somewhat specious comparison because both those devices have all-day battery life respective to their use cases and larger devices in general gain more portability when they’re thinned down.

This ultrathin phone fad is mostly a gimmick designed to generate press. The phone isn’t so much thinner that it suddenly presents new opportunities for portability. It just has worse battery life and possibly a worse camera.
Still, The MacBook Air is just as compromised as the iPhone Air will be 🤣

Samsung today introduced the Galaxy S25 Edge, an ultra thin smartphone that will compete with Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 "Air." The Galaxy S25 Edge features a 6.7-inch AMOLED display and it measures in at 5.8mm thick.

Comparatively, rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will have a 6.6-inch display and a thickness of 5.5mm, so it may be slightly smaller and thinner than the S25 Edge. The Galaxy S25 Edge weighs 163 grams, so the thin design and the light weight are noticeable when it is compared to a standard Galaxy S25 Ultra or a current iPhone 16 Pro Max. The Galaxy S25 Ultra weighs 218 grams, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max weighs 227 grams.

Samsung is using a titanium frame for the Galaxy S25 Edge, which is also what we're expecting for the iPhone 17 Air. It also includes Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, which Samsung says improves resilience.

While the iPhone 17 Air will only get a single 48-megapixel Wide lens, Samsung equipped the Galaxy S25 Edge with a dual-lens camera setup. There's a 200-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens.

Aside from the thin and light design, the Galaxy S25 Edge is basically identical to the other smartphones in the Galaxy S25 lineup, offering the same performance and feature set. It includes the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform from Qualcomm, and a revamped vapor chamber for heat dissipation.

It has AI tools like Drawing Assist and Audio Eraser, along with ProScaler for improved image scaling functionality. There's a Now Brief and Now Bar with AI-updated information that changes throughout the day and incorporates info from third-party apps, plus it includes Google Gemini features thanks to Samsung's partnership with Google.

Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge can be pre-ordered from the Samsung website, and pricing starts at $1,099.99 for the 256GB model. Samsung is offering a $50 credit for those who pre-order, and upgrading anyone who purchases the 256GB model to 512GB. The deal is available through May 30.

Samsung is also offering up to $630 in trade-in credits toward the purchase of a Galaxy S25 Edge.

I have to be honest, aesthetically it looks better than the iPhone Air and it looks like, it will be a lot less compromised feature wise, than the Air!

Still, The MacBook Air is just as compromised as the iPhone Air will be 🤣
Exactly. Inferior screen, fewer ports, less powerful. All of the "Airs" have traditionally been compromised in some way, and this iPhone 17 Air will be no exception. People are acting like this is a new concept :p

"funny they done this after the iPhone leaks, just so they can say they done it first" implies Samsung was copying Apple.
A serious question: do you really believe what you write? Any normal person would assume that the party that is late tries to "catch up" by leaking a rumor after having learnt that the competition is much further ahead.
It does not change the way I see this device though: absolutely unnecessary and way too expensive.

Looks great, but why aren't these companies utilising Carbon Silicone batteries for these types of phones? That is the ideal tech for slim phones!

Did you not read what I wrote before? Samsung released several smartwatches after the first leak of the Apple Watch in a short span of roughly a single year.

It's ridiculous to think Apple would leak plans that would basically help their competition confirm their roadmap just for brownie points? lol.

It doesn't get better after each post!
The first modern "smartwatch" from Samsung was published in 2009 (put aside their first watch phone from 1999!).
Samsung was competing against Sony, Pebble, Motorola, LG and alike ... who cared for non-existing Apple watches at that time? You live in a really small Apple world.

I think thin and very light phones are great. My only problem with the Samsung and upcoming Apple thin phones is that they are too big for me. I just got rid of a iphone 15 Plus because I realized after getting it that it was entirely too big for my hands. I would be interested in a 6.1" or 6.3" thin light phone though.

Can anybody help to explain how Samsung and Apple both land on thin phones in exactly the same year? Despite working on their roadmaps several years in advance, in private? I don’t get how similar designs and features always seem to land at roughly the same time.

They ask customers what they like and don't like about their devices, and apparently enough customers said "these phones are getting too big and heavy! I'd like it if you made a thinner one." So that's what they do, they add a thin phone to their lineup.

COMEDY!

2011: First rumors of Apple Watch: https://9to5mac.com/2011/12/19/nyt-...g-and-even-prototyping-some-wearable-devices/

Between 2013-2015: Samsung releases 5 smart watches. Weird how they didn't release any smart watch in 2010, 2011, 2012, but suddenly FIVE smartwatches in a short span of a 2 years starting in 2013 (you know, it takes 1-2 years to develop a product).

🤣

This is so obvious. If you can't see that then I'm afraid there's nothing else to say. Have a nice rest of your day.

The obsession with thinness is silly IMO. However a light phone is great. I miss my iPhone 12 over my 15 because of how light it was.

Forget the thinness and just put in more battery. I would be willing to bet that people would value more battery longevity than thinness. Of course, that would add to the weight unfortunately.

I think that this is the kind of phone that if you see it in person, you will immediately want it.

Who is this phone for?

Probably someone who values form over function, doesn't hammer their phone each day and is simply busy with other stuff.

Although these sorts of people must now be vanishingly small.

On balance, I'd much prefer a phone that is a battery champ.

However, these 6.7 inch screen phones (and above) are feeling - and weighing - like tanks.

But still, if I saw this phone in person, I know I'd want it...

I kinda of agree with that. Chunkier phone with more battery and no camera bump. I've been using one of those camera back "cases" that hides the bump and I'm liking it.
Drop the link please. I’m always on the lookout for cases that allow the phone to lay flush.
