It looks great, but still using variants of the current Qualcomm SoC and radio modem chip will result in frighteningly short battery life compared to the regular Galaxy S25. At least with the upcoming iPhone 17 Air it will use the much more efficient A19 SoC and upgraded C1 radio modem chip so battery life per charge will still stay reasonable.

A serious question: do you really believe what you write? Any normal person would assume that the party that is late tries to "catch up" by leaking a rumor after having learnt that the competition is much further ahead.
It does not change the way I see this device though: absolutely unnecessary and way too expensive.
Well Samsung released their first teaser well ahead of their phone actually being done; long after the first iPhone Air leaks you think Apple released.

Nice Dan. Good quick review.
Also, the word you mean to use is versus, not verse.
Cheers.

This was announced in February. iPhone 17 Air hasn't even been announced yet.
February 25? The iPhone air won’t be announced until it’s released but it’s been rumoured for at least 6 months.
And Samsung would have the best leakers and insiders.

We all know they made this for a reason.

Samsung released many features years ahead of Apple (NFC, wireless charging, OLED screens, large screens, pen support etc.). In general, they are ahead of Apple on just about everything. Your speculations about them responding to Apple leaks are just that - baseless speculations.

I would much rather have a slightly chonkier phone with better battery life than a slightly thinner phone with worse battery life. I genuinely have no idea who this phone is for.
It's for people that want a premium phone with a large screen, but lighter.

Carrying my iPhone 15 Pro Max and picking up my iPhone 11xs max (I forget what it's called haha) with a case on it, is like night and day when it comes to weight. You do appreciate the light weight of a phone when you pick one up and are used to holding something heavy. So I can see people wanting this phone for that reason.

This obsession with "thin" is getting just plain silly. This is too thin for my hand, and I would rather have another r2-4mm of thickness for a longer battery. This drive for "thin" reminds me of the worst of Jonny Ive's designs... he did it to see what HE could do, not what was really useful.

Wild to me how closely this resembles an iPhone 16 while the iPhone 17 is slated to start looking significantly more like a Galaxy 🤦‍♂️

On another note; you know what a REALLY easy way would be to reduce weight and maybe even improve durability??? STOP MAKING THE BACK OF THE PHONE OUT OF GLASS!!!!

I don't think it's possible because of wireless antennas? I guess they could go back to using plastic, but which one of the premium manufacturers is really going to do that.

Maybe those who end the day with 50% or so battery life? Those people do exist, you know that, right?
Also, those of us who lack a plump *ss require suspenders to keep our pants up with the chonky Max. That's the reason I'm considering it.

Can anybody help to explain how Samsung and Apple both land on thin phones in exactly the same year? Despite working on their roadmaps several years in advance, in private? I don’t get how similar designs and features always seem to land at roughly the same time.
Samsung have the clout in terms of parts, manufacturing and supply to hobble something together quickly. Their entire roadmap seems to be based on Apple rumours. Apples leaky supply chain and inability to get products to market quickly is to blame here. The ‘home hub’ will be next. Apple will sit on it until 2027 or whatever and they will be pipped to the post.

Samsung would be privy to those leaks way earlier than anyone in our fan community.
In fact I have it on good authority that they have well placed spies. They always know what Apple are working on and up to, and they use this and their ability to get products out of the door much more quickly , to their advantage.

I would much rather have a slightly chonkier phone with better battery life than a slightly thinner phone with worse battery life. I genuinely have no idea who this phone is for.

How about people who:
  • prefer premium phones
  • don’t like carrying a bulky device
  • find the battery life of a thinner phone sufficient
  • aren’t shooting Hollywood films with their iPhone camera
Surely, not everyone need or want exactly the same things as you.

I find it strange how some people in these discussions get annoyed when a new option becomes available, just because they personally don’t need it. You don’t have to buy it — the regular iPhone and Pro (Max) models will still be available. It’s a good thing we’re getting more choices. Now if only they’d remove the camera bump from the Air to better differentiate it as a truly light and slim option.

I’m not didn’t mention any of those. Nor am I disputing that. That’s years. Hardly a comparable to 6 months earlier of a thin version phone.

doesnt look very thin and funny they done this after the iPhone leaks, just so they can say they done it first
It takes a long time to take a product to market so either Samsumg was doing it first or Apple is simply too slow.

That been said this is a solution to a non existing problem

I wonder how Apple will spin the iPhone Air when they announce it. It’s going to be so underwhelming with its single camera that will at best be 50MP and the useless wide bump.

How did we survive with the iPhone 5? 5s? 6? 6s? 7? That's FIVE GENERATIONS of iPhone with an all-aluminum body! Not to mention iPhone 1 and 2 that only had a small plastic segment on the bottom, but were otherwise an aluminum shell, bringing the total up to SEVEN.

The iPod was developed in less than a year and that was a completely new device and 25 years ago.

Tooling and development has only become faster and with a simple thing like “make a thin version of this” it’s not that hard to whip up a thin phone.

I've held the S25 Edge in hand at my local Samsung store and it's a nice device to hold. The camera bump is a bit daft but given most people will chuck it in a case it hardly matters. My current phone is the S25+ and comparing the two the Edge doesn't feel much different in terms of weight which will be even less when adding a case.
