Can someone explain to me how Samsung is copying something from Apple that doesn't exist? :apple: koolaid must taste good.

Did not you know? Samsung CEO is on the Apple Board of Directors and he is stealing all Apple ideas ;)

----------

Awesome!
I wonder if others will follow(copy).

Apple purposely leak some product designs to confuse Samsung and other competitors.

They sure do. For example, they just leaked iPhone 6 parts with larger screens. Expect Samsung to start selling smart phones with large screens in the near future.

This would be useful in a hospital or as an outpatient tool. But for the life of me, I cannot think of a reason the general populous would want to constantly monitor their current health. I see this leading to lots and lots of cases of hypochondria.

"Oh no! My BP is 10 points higher than normal!" The stress of worrying about high blood pressure causes blood pressure to increase some more. Ack! Vicious circle.

I found this so funny that I burst out laughing while reading it.

I was just reading the Wall Street Journal Tech Blog story on the "Simband" (the band with the EKG and BP monitor connected to the SAMI network shown here) prototype. It's not the sort of thing that's for the "general populace" at all, but some folks are on medications that do require monitoring blood pressure. Myself, I have abnormally low blood pressure as a side effect but have to avoid most of a usual diet and most of over-the-counter medications lest that BP spike in short order to dangerous hypertension levels. I've actually been searching for a wearable that feeds continuous data to my phone or such so I can see that I've ingested the wrong thing by mistake *before* I have a cerebral hemorrhage (in time to quickly treat it). Samsung isn't releasing this one here as a consumer product, but even the display is a good sign of companies working on such tech and it gives me hope that something like the iWatch/Healthbook combo might be announced next week as just what I'm looking for so I don't have to live in fear every time I leave my apartment and think about lunch.

This is the stupidest, most useless piece of tech for most normal people. I would never want to constantly monitor my health stats. People are so busy monitoring **** like this that they forget to actually live life.

Samsung is so stupid

Samsung's entire product lineup in based on Apple Rumours.. what a silly way to think of innovation .... if they really want to do something original they should first stop looking at Apple Rumours. Just coming to market first will not beat the cycle as Apple creates and dominates the market everyone just follows, i guess samsung doesnt like the fact that unless apple doesn't release any product in the category the market doesn't open.

What samsung fails to realize that the perfection in there product is lacking. The shadow in the icons are not all at the same angle. Imferfect silly Goof's (Samsung)

Samsung, it's not important to release a product first but more important to release a product done right. Apple wasn't the first company to release a smartphone and not the first company to release a tablet because they release products on their own timeline when they are ready. In short, one shouldn't let a competitor dictate their product release cycle(s).

Correct, except if you don't release a product first, then news will blur all over that all other companies have this, or that, and Apple;s late to the game.

One thing things to mind was "PC-fee" The original iPhone cold never be activate 'overt the air', it needed iTunes...

People cries wolf, and allot or attention, because everyone had the job of this, maybe not on their phone model either, but they had be quicker than Apple every could,

However, your right in saying Apple does it right.

Yeah you would rather have one company with a complete monopoly. Think about it. Just like if Ford was the only car company.

Well right now it's like there's Ford, and then another company that just builds something that looks like a Ford, only terrible because it's rushed out the door to cash in on Ford's success.

It would be fantastic if Samsung tried to make their own things, and actually tried competing instead of copying.

I wonder how many Samsung moles are working at Apple.

----------

Eh, no need, their phones are already the size of tablets.

They'll announce a tablet that folds out to be a television.

Reminiscent of the Boom-Box Era.

----------

SAMI, When should I have know my aorta was going to tear?

SAMI = Samsung's Advance Mimicking Initiative

----------

This is just ****ing disgusting by Shamesung. They just officially outright copy everything Apple does. They don't even bother to change it up a little. Even the ****ing UI is copied from ios 8 renderings. Pathetic. Why don't they actually innovate and bring something new and useful to the consumers instead of just creating a cheap copy of another company's idea?:mad:

Reminiscent of Vanilla Ice with "Ice-Ice Baby"

I have to admit their TVs finally are not bad at all.

It's Samsung. They are oblivious to such details. Just look at the icons on the marketing materials... total amateur job, but good enough for them.

You're right, but don't go there. The camera app icon in iOS is not exactly a masterpiece either.

Who's not to say that it's Apple stealing ideas from Samsung on occasion and providing leaks/rumors so they are seen as creating the idea before Samsung has time to make an announcement.

Fixed. :)

very cool functionality but completely fugly looking. i'm really hoping apple's new band looks better than the plain brown wristwatch they've been showing on here!!! if it is i'll stick with a 3rd party band.

The edges of shadows do not need to be parallel; it simply implies the light source is small or close to the glyph on the icon. Of all the odd things to criticize… :p And for some bloody reason, I've made a GIF illustrating how light source size affects shadow shape:

Image

The sun is a point light source and creates parallel hard shadows. And is what this style is modelled on.

A close large light source will create a soft shadow with light rays both parallel and at angles meaning no solid lines.

Hard shadows that aren't parallel only occur when the point light source is very very very close or inside the object.

Clearly the graphics are just poorly realised just like every bit of Samsung software I've ever encountered.

That is such an ugly piece of crap.

Read the article. It's "a reference device that includes a multitude of wearable sensors".

A reference platform is basically an example circuit for engineers, demonstrating functionality and sometimes how to package in a small area.

It's not at all intended for end users, so it's not meant to be pretty or marketable. Just jam packed with example gear that will be used in an R&D lab environment.

My guess is a device like this is always going to be a niche product. It's not like the phone market, everyone has a phone. There are already a lot of apps for tracking progress when exercising, perhaps not as accurate, but it's still a subsection of a subsection of the phone market. The extreme sporting nut, and the geek that just wants a new toy regardless if there is an actual need. Then there are alternatives out there for dedicated wrist wearable devices for this type of tracking.

So basically Samsung is saying pick us over Google. And at the same time making sure they can say first! before Apple announces anything next Monday. Reminds me a little bit like when Google scheduled a maps event right before WWDC in 2012.

are you really this insecure/paranoid?

considering how both the maps by apple and google have progressed in those two years i think its obvious who was ready to announce and deliver anything. note still waiting on apple maps to actually have directions in my city.

if apple is first everyone following is copying but if someone is before apple its an act of desperation.

Thanks for the nice gif, but I'm aware how shadows work (engineer/3d programmer). My point is more that the shadows are inconsistent, and the one with non-parallel shadows stands out as it's the only one that doesn't suggest a virtually infinitely far light source (punctual light source rather than directional).

The designer of those obviously didn't think: "Hey let's make the light source closer to the glyph, but just for one of the 4 icons for some random reason". It's an obvious design (not scientific) mistake, which I'm only pointing out. It looks like he only prolongated the rhombus' angle while forgetting about design consistency.

Ah, I understand what you mean and apologize for explains a simple concept as if you didn't already know. Speaking of odd design mistakes, why the heck is the "INSIGHT" icon the only one wth such a noticeable gradient? This just gets weirder.
