Samsung will begin manufacturing OLED displays for a new iPhone X and iPhone X Plus next month, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily News.

The report claims Samsung will restart its production line in May, with plans to double its production capacity in June. The timeline appears to be slightly ahead of schedule, as it was supposedly believed that Samsung would not begin production until the end of June, or the beginning of the third quarter.

The report is a good sign that Apple's widely rumored trio of 2018 smartphones will be released simultaneously, including a new iPhone X, a larger iPhone X Plus, and a mid-range LCD model with Face ID. The new smartphone lineup will likely be announced in early September and available to order later in the month.

This would contrast with Apple's staggered release of the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X last year. While all three models were unveiled in September, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus pre-orders began September 15, while iPhone X pre-orders didn't begin until October 27, nearly a month and a half later.

The delayed launch of the iPhone X was attributed to reported production challenges with the TrueDepth camera system powering Face ID. Those issues have since been resolved, and shouldn't have any effect on the 2018 launch.

All in all, getting your hands on Apple's flagship new smartphone may be quicker and easier this fall. But, as with any iPhone launch, pre-order availability will likely be limited, so early adopters will probably still need to act fast.

Limited.. I don't think that's really going to be the case anymore. Sure things will sellout, but within a week you'll be able snag them. Same with the X, I didn't even bother preordering. Could pick up in store the same day of release easily. Though I won't be upgrading this year, there's no longer a reason to buy yearly anymore.

With an expected $1,100+ price, I don't think this phone will be in HIGH demand. I know some people are looking forward to it, but jeez, the thought of spending $1100+ on a smartphone is borderline ridiculous! It's just really hard to process that. The LCD iPhone will probably sell well, though.

I am predicting $1149 for the plus model. And it will sell enough. Apple has aggregated the best customers and I believe there will be enough people willing to pay for this.

There have been rumours that the prices of the 'X' iPhones will get lower in 2018, with the iPhone X Plus taking over the $999 price point and the iPhone X.2 getting cheaper to maybe $899. And possibly the 6.2" LCD iPhone slotting in at $799. There have been no rumours of an iPhone 8s (and 8s Plus), thus the iPhone 8 could be kept in the lineup as usual for $100 less than today, ie, at $599 and iPhone 8 Plus at $699:

    iPhone 8: $599
    iPhone 8 Plus: $699
    iPhone 6.2" LCD: $799
    iPhone X.2: $899
    iPhone X Plus: $999

Most people on here seem to want the X plus size, which is fine with me. Better chance of me getting my standard X size on release day. :) Since I'm currently on a SE, it'll be a significant screen size increase.

So LG won't be manufacturing the X Plus displays as previously rumored? Nice!

You would be surprised because people could pay all upfront or with a payment plan. Many folks want a bigger screen and bigger battery too. It’s also market determined. The US will buy a ton of iPhones. Other areas might not purchase similar volumes.

I just hope the $100 difference is just a bigger screen on the X+ along with battery size. Feature parity would be nice.

Isn’t the screen size of the X bigger than any previous iPhone? I ask because comments here make it seem like it was smaller than the regular Plus size phone.

I wish they’d keep Touch ID. I’m guessing Face ID doesn’t work if you’re unlocking your phone in the dark, a frequent occurrence for some, myself included.

In between a rock and a hard place
Would be nice, yes. Unrealistic though. There's always been a desired "differentiator" between the base and plus models. I don't see Apple changing that any time soon. Does any OEM make size the only difference in their handsets?

I think it’s been a while where technology just hasn’t advanced enough (inc software) to justify a yearly upgrade for many.

I think Sony may have been the closest because they have the same screen resolution, processor, RAM, camera in their XZ2 Compact and their XZ2. Only differences are some vibrator, screen size, wireless charging.

Google has a lot of parity between its Pixel 2 and 2XL since it's just screen differences/batteries between the two.

From KGI's diagram, it seems like the regular X will have 4gb RAM and dual cameras. You can make dual cameras slightly better on the X+ and I still won't care. I rather just save the $ and trade in my 8+ for the 2017 X, 2018 X, or 2018 LCD 6.1" model. If the 2017 X is the most affordable one, I will go with that.

Let's see if Apple drops the price of the regular X to $899. Or I'll just keep my X another year.

The screen is narrower than the one on the Plus phones. This is very apparent when viewing Instagram images or videos.

    My guess is

    6.1 inch iphone lcd: 749-799
    5.8 inch iphone x2:899-949
    6.3-6.4 inch x2 plus:1099

6.1 inch will have 3gb of ram(perhaps even the a11 instead of a12), single camera and with alu sides, lcd 326-400 dpi, with 3d touch.2500Ma battery. Same notch dimensions ad the current x, same faceid sensor.

5.8 inch iphone X: dual improved cam over this year x, and, i hope, a ceramic back, 4gb of memory, higher nits display, and perhaps slightly better speakers and microphones, 2800ma battery, smaller notch??? And an improved faceid sensor that has a wider viewing angle?

6.2-6.3 inch iphone x: same as the above, except for perhaps an even better cam, multitasking 2 apps on screen(split view), landscape homescreen and keyboard options, higher dpi, nits, etc ( and as an outsider, works with the apple pencil), higher clocked soc. 3300mah battery?
Outside bet, a truedeptch camera on the back...
