If the phone is expensive,,,, then sure.. This slots in nicely with Android taking 2.5 years to catch up with TrueDepth inclusive..

Nice, the extra dough helps Samsung continue to actually innovate. Glad to have Apple on board as a purchaser.......

It certainly is for Notch Lovers!

The notch is going to be the airpods all over again. People criticize the hell out of it. But is loved by people once they it.

From Apple's perspective, that will be the ONLY immediately, physically, distinguishing point in the universe of rectangle slabs of phones. The Home button served that purpose all this while, and along with the tech it played an important role in making the iPhone an icon it is.

Functionally I would not mind the notch as long as it does not intrude and cut parts of videos or apps. ANd all that is completely software, which Apple and devs can refine as they go along.

Of course I do not plan for this years Ten... so I can only give my views from the side lines. Maybe next year I will put my money where my mouth is.

Maybe in 2 years they can innovate a processor that catches up to the A11 that’s available now.

Don’t you find it embarrassing that a single A11 core is literally twice as fast as anything Samsung makes? Or Qualcomm?

Hehe. You're brutal vs. Samsung. :D

2 Suggestions for you.
Don’t buy it if it bothers your eyes
Stop crying about it and let hundreds of millions enjoy it.
By the way it is rectangular, with a little notch, which I think it looks cool.
Fairly easy suggestion if you don't see the difference between round and rectangular.
But when unable to do my own decision-making, you'll be the first I will consult.

Ok, it’s rectangular with rounded corners! So freaking what? I think it makes it look pretty damn beautiful and who the hell does say that it needs to have perfect 90 degrees corners to be beautiful and functional at the same time? Correct me if I am wrong but human field of view is not rectangular either.

Samsung’s Philosophy: If you can’t beat them, join them!
Same difference with Apple's philosophy really... they need someone to make parts for their phone, so may as well team up with their "mortal enemy".

Even then, it's not like Apple really "makes" anything. Designed by Apple in CA, but it's always been produced in Asia.

Not at all. Real World Tests show the Note 8 outpacing any iPhone...I can literally have any phone in the world yet I prefer my amazing samsung devices. It seems that your processor is the only spec you guys can really boast about. The hardware and even software does not even compare to any of Samsung's devices and you know it. Have fun trying to figure out a way to actually utilize that processor while I have full utilization of mine.

What real world tests? Opening 20 Apps in a row?

Apps that do real work are faster on iPhone. You can’t even name me 3 Android Apps that can utilize 8 cores at once. But go ahead and try. I have an S7, S8 and Pixel for development purposes. List off some Apps and I’ll try them out.

My original point still stands. Samsung is 2 years behind Apple in processor design.

When you can multitask properly on your iPhone then come back.

Gee man, great time for you.
Tell us what other screen obstructions you want to see - now that 99,9995% of the software must be redressed.

This isn’t too much of a surprise. The sales numbers for the iPhone flagships had outpaced Samsung’s flagship for several years already. It’s like saying “Oh the sky today is blue”. The iPhone X parts are going to be more profitable since they are being supplied to a separate company that pays in cash instead of being consumed internally to make a single product that would have inferior revenue numbers. If Samsung used the same parts for their phones, it would make more sense but then Apple would probably have not given them the True Tone specs or even the full Wide Color Gamut specs. Nothing wrong with supplying a competitor with their base tech especially when you’re already tooled to produce your own high resolution parts with pretty similar physical specs. I do kind of feel bad for Samsung though since they are doing the actual work on producing the displays while Apple has designed the specifications and the software tech to drive the displays. It’s both a step forward in software and a step backwards in hardware for the Samsung manufacturers.

Do processors matter in that way anymore?

For iOS, although YMMV, after the 2nd or 3rd major update (in this case, ios13 or ios14), things run a bit slower to slowing down to a crawl.

For Android, again, although YMMV, but it seem they generally get an average 1 major OS update, so it's moot there in other ways.

For your typical user, I doubt they care just how "blain'" their processor is (although if things get that slow, they may now). Me... I like, fast, processors, and I can, not, lie.... but in the end, I'm not willing to pay for it, so I'll catch up in 3 to 4 years, when the top of the line now move on to the discount bin.

Bye Apple.

I left iPhone as soon as I saw the iPhone 8 kept the same 3 year design. And don't start me on that iPhone x fugly notch. iOS11 makes me feel like a baby in a play pin. Had enough. Now I'm enjoying my S8.
[doublepost=1507387806][/doublepost]I'm disappointed that android wants to follow apple's foot steps. Not everyone wants face ID. I definitely prefer a fingerprint scanner. I think a fingereprint scanner in the screen would be useful. I'm not comfortable with the idea of any device storing facial recognition data.

The key is iOS and the A silicon.

A lot of other suppliers make the components, like any phone. Hardware is a tough biz.
