Very shady. Never really been a fan of the company anyway.

Samsung hasn't made a false claim because no one has seen the real Galaxy Tab yet, not even a real mock up. Basically they are saying "we'll have this amazing device in a few month, but right now we don't have anything to show for, so please take a look at these which somewhat resemble the final product."

I think that's the definition of a false claim. Saying something like 'the thinnest tablet on the market' when it's neither the thinnest nor on the market is definitely a false claim.

Then those pics are irrelevant at this point in time.

no one has seen the real galaxy tab? are you sure??

is that a figment of my imagination then.....

it's a joke to even talk about samsung. say what you want about hp (palm) or rim, but at least both are trying to develop their own os for their devices. with samsung it's get our products and let's hope google's got something out for you, because we sure as ... aint working on that os...good luck getting your device from these guys....

I remember my first ipod player was a samsung, I figured specs are ok, they manufacture lots of things for apple anyway, so I got it. After a year or so vista came out, and of course samsung being samsung couldn't give toss to upgrade their drivers to vista (my sad, demented pc past, I know...), a days work or so, and they bricked the device after a year and half after they d released it. Great stuff....

stay clear away from these guys, vote with your money, and I am not saying get an ipad if you don't want to, give it a go with hp or rim products if you so wish, cause at least you 'll be paying the same people who make the os and put together the hardware, not some opportunist who never bothered with software.

Do we really want google all over our mobile devices? Haven't we had enough of it already, hasn't google permeated every part of our interactions on the web so far? At least if they had something half decent out, you could say, ok I ll try them they seem to bring so much to the table...but who here thinks google is outpacing in os apple, rim and palm? They should be shouldn't they? They aren't selling anything are they? They are sitting on their ... all day developing the os, shouldn't it be better than the competition who actually have to put money on the table by selling actual products? But it's not even that.

I see no reason why someone would support samsung here, an given their recent dishonesty, that seals it for me.

Hardly irrelevant. Samsung showed these off as representative of a shipping product (minus running software of course). Otherwise why would they show it?

Were these pics of the revised Galaxy that they are claiming to be thinner than the iPad?

Both are poor pictures, especially the one on the left, but the Samsung does look thicker. If that really is the latest revision of the Galaxy, Samsung made a false claim.

Those are comparisons to the old model.

The new tabs have more of a chrome finish on the beveled edges.

Look here:

This is a good video that demonstrates the new form factors:

How do we embed video here?

Just be looking at them, the rounded edges of the tabs look much more comfortable to hold in the hands than the sharp edged iPad 2.

They were holding them in their hands in the pic and video

Aren't those the same non-working mockup/prototype/shells that were not found to be thinner than the iPad 2? I didn't see them turn it during the presentation, did I miss the part they turned it on and showed it working?

gotta love the comment of one youtube user in the vid posted:

That guy looks like a porn star :p

25 thumbs up btw.

and I also love the guy going these are the new samsung tabs, of course these don't turn on (why of course?) but we are going to show you the os elsewhere.

Since when don't prototypes turn on? (I mean the rubbish we hear everyday...) That's like saying here's the new prototype/concept car but we are going to show you the tires elsewhere because you can't drive this thing.

Wow, though, devices that don't turn on...then why the f. do we care if they are thin or not? Make them turn on first and then show them...enough with the vapourware already...as if this tech world hasnt' had enough of them already...but what do you expect for someone working for pc world? Can there be a more derogatory title for a magazine? The very reason it took us so long to get to better, more intuitive, products are PCs....if apple hadn't broken the mould with the ipad we d still be getting netbooks or some such rubbish from samsung, but this is conveniently forgotten.

To be fair to Samsung, they actually do work quite a bit on their own Linux-based OS, known as Bada, but so far it's really more of a featurephone replacement OS.

At its heart Samsung is an excellent component supplier trying to make high end KIRF clone products. Their action plan is pretty simple:

1. Study innovative leaders
2. Release similar looking products with a few more extra features and competitive price along with a good display
3. Repeat #2 while catching with the leader
4. Overtake the innovation leader, who's now slowing down, and attack all retail channels with massive scale of production and vast amount of different models
5. ??
6. PROFIT!!

And Samsung is pretty shameless at this. I long suspected they absolutely pride themselves on being able to churn out good quality copies so quickly and their ability to improve rapidly is remarkable. They will probably tell you how smart they are at "benchmarking" others' successful products and one up them with lower price.

thanks I d forgotten about that, who were they developing it with, did they do it alone? Been so long since I 've heard of it...hardly though what you would call spectacular, everyone and their brother by now have some rudimentary unix or other os for phones...even sony...

that's their business model you are absolutely right btw.

Samsung was pretty much forced to debut these tablets before they were ready. Why? Because every consumer in the market right now has either bought or is thinking about buying the iPad 2.

Now that Samsung says their tabs will be ready by June (even if there is a delay), it is just enough press to show the public that there is an alternative to the iPad 2 around the corner and it will keep some people on the fence, until Samsung's tablets are finally released, for them to make a final decision. The new tabs were also announced while many iPad 2 owners were still within their two week return window, so if they had any dissatifications with the iPad, they could now make the decision to wait and see what Samsung has to offer come June.

First of all, I am going to start off saying that I hate Samsung for just about everything they make. I am not an android hater or anything. I am more favorable to iOS than android, but I love competition. But, Samsung has never been my choice. This is why.

Some of you posted threads about Samsung galaxy Tab vs iPad 2. Well, samsung will never win my heart again because I have no plans on spending my money on a company who wants to just flat out and lie to their customers to promote their videos. In fact, I hope Samsung fails. This kind of behavior should not be tolerated in this market.

Shame on Samsung. They think this is Korea and they think Americans are just going to be fooled by some actors. And they must think they can just pull off the same BS they do in their home country. I hope DOA looks into this and slams Samsung for lying to the press and consumers.

just curios why you want the department of agriculture to look into this? It's an apple iPad not an apple orchard.

No, a realist. Anyone here who does not see the threat Android poses (or underestimates Apple's concern over it) is being very naive.

No industry insider thinks Apple will retain the lead in this war. There's just too much competition.

Look on the bright side. The more quality hardware/software competitors Apple has the better their upgrades will have to be. No more softballs like the iPad2 small tweaks.

Yeah, like all of those people that Apple have in their videos saying how much they love whatever products are promotong are not actors.
Yeah, but they were demonstrating not pretending to own the device and how it cured them. Big difference!

Same thing when iPod was new.

Provided they heard about them or heard that Samsung lied and used actors who pretend to own them.

Really? I can't find anything to indicate that Android is going to overtake the iPad any time within the next 5 years, if ever. This looks more like iPod all over again.

That's what people said about Android OS the first time they launched [the phone].Yesterday i just had my 64 AT&T,and now i'm waiting for my motorola xoom wifi.Competition is good, make the best out of you.

You can't compare phones to tablets. No buy one, get one free deals for tons of plastic POS Android based tablets flooding the market, like with their phones. Additionally, you don't have 50 million companies making tablets with Android on it. To expensive a proposition and the supplies aren't there. Apple learned it's lesson from the iPhone.

Xoom is already stopping production

The tab looks great i think, however i wouldnt say a company is finding a way to beat the ipad when they are pricing it so low that they loose money
